Organize Classroom Questions asked

Open Question: Violation of Free Speech rights at Public School?

I'm the president of a pro-life club at my very liberal public high school. I expected to get the most trouble from the students; but it turns out I was wrong. the administration seems to be giving me the most trouble. At an event I organized earlier this year, lifesavers were given out, wrapped, with a pro-life fact attached. The administration required me to show them every candy and fact before I distributed them on campus. I am currently organizing an Easter egg hunt campus-wide. I plan to insert in each egg a fact and a candy (once again, wrapped). The administration, this time round, says that I can't give out candy because it violates the health code. I have been given candy in club meetings and in classroom parties. I don't understand why it suddenly becomes an issue now. In addition, I received a somewhat snarky message from the vice principal of my school, demanding of me an email to the administration of all the facts to be distributed in the event. Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive, but I feel that some free-speech rights and bias is going on here. Have any of my rights been violated? What are a student's speech rights in a California public high school? more

Resolved Question: How is my college personal statement?

Describe the environment you come from - for example, your family, community, or school - and how this environment has affected or influenced your plans for the future. My school consists of me, a kitchen table, and my schoolwork. I began homeschooling the start of my freshman year in high school after graduating from a small Christian school. My family and I couldn't afford the expenses of a nearby private academy where all my friends attended. The idea of being home away from my friends made me depressed, but I stayed strong and moved on. Each of my several classes consist of an hour of study followed by a break. A short resting period refreshes my mind and helps me prepare for my next course. My classes are varied with different assignments ranging from multiple choice questions to 10 page research papers. My continual study of new materials has better prepared me for the challenging tasks of college. I like to keep my school organized by maintaining the same schedule each day. A consistent schedule has provided me with structure and focus. I've also had the great opportunity of choosing my classes each year with the guidance of my school adviser and parents. This option has allowed me to decide the type of courses to assist my preferred field of study for the future. Occasionally, my school assignments lack an explanation thorough enough for my understanding. Not having a teacher to explain the materials or another student to work with, I've had to go to the extra mile to figure out certain problems. I've spent many hours on the internet looking for better explanations and examples until finding a logical explanation. In certain occasions, a neighbor has helped me with assignments. Homeschooling has taught me to use every possible resource until the job is done. Not a single dilemma, whether a confusing physics lab or a long research paper, has stopped me from finishing the task. My family has taught me Christian values and good morals throughout my life. Being kind and honest are two of the qualities that have been engraved in my mind. I plan to bring all the positive, virtuous attributes I've managed to acquire into action. Assisting classmates, discussing current events, and being part of a classroom are a few of the many activities I want to participate in. Not only do I want to better my character, but help shape the lives of my fellow students. more

Voting Question: Does he like me? Please help!!!!?

k... for 2-3 months i sat across to this guy, who i became quite close with we chatted and joked around A LOT!!!! he showed me the real me, and made me feel special. =] It weird how the first day i met him and we were organizing our classmate's desk we our hands accidentally touched several times and it's weird i felt a "spark" [ weird, huh] at first we were shy with each other [ didn't talk much, barely looked at each other] but soon when we knew each other we instantly talked and joked around sometimes we would mess around with each other or mess around with other people together for example: one day it was math class and this guy kept touching his notebook so he was pretending to get mad . i joked around with him and touched his notebook and we were messing around and i kept saying "sorry" like i was scared and he pretended he was mad [ he kept breathing heavily, his eyes looked joking mad, but his mouth was smiling] soon we both began laughing =] he always extra nice to me, and i admit he's POPULAR but he makes me comfortable talking with him [ he makes everybody comfortable] and i admit he jokes around with a lot of girls but we have something, we are ourselves with each other and enjoy each others company , like girl and boy buds but i feel like there's something more but not sure about how he feels sometimes i stare at him and he stares at me and i admit i get distracted [ sometimes when i throw my trash in the recycle bin i sometimes see him notice me,] but i just don't know if it's meant to be.... He is POPULAR like i said earlier and he does talk to a lot of girls but i admit i do have guy friends and buds too. its just some thing inside of me that says "he's the one" more detail: he defends me for example: k this boy that everybody doesn't like much made fun of me and i came up with a comeback and my crush said, "ooh!!!" and we both smiled he smiles when we mess around but we switched seats and didn't talk much but during an assembly we talked and joked around and he offered me his candy conversation: him:hey, did you get any candy? me: no you and Eddy jacked it all i smile he slightly laughs and smiles me: i swear you guys are like savages!!! we laugh and smile Him: want some [ shows me the candy] me: nah. I'm good Today: he wanted this book in the classroom library so I ran all the way to where it was and handed it to him him: you can read it me: it's okay [ give it back to him] him: [ iforgot what he said in this paRT] BUT he hands it back to me and when we were talking, during one part i saw his cheeks BLUSH then he left and i SMILED thinking bout our conversation So does he like me??? more

Voting Question: Using laptops in high school classrooms?

Hi, before reading consider I live in New Zealand, (I'm equivalent to an American 'junior' at high school)so things may be different? Anyway, my question today is do you use a laptop in your high school classroom, and do your other classmates? I'll expand; So I have a new macbook pro, and want to use it in class, I can take much neater notes, much faster, organize and edit them better, you get the picture. It's just I'm afraid to, because, well here, someone who uses a macbook pro, etc, or at least in public, could be considered a bit of a show off, as no one in my school really uses them (laptops in general), besides a few certain individuals. So, I guess my question is, if no one else used a laptop, would you, and is it worth it to use it? more

Resolved Question: A male teacher drove me home from school - tell me if this situation is appropriate?

I'm 14 years old (8th grade), and three weeks ago my former male teacher drove me home from school. Now, he's my supervisor in this academic club, so I stayed late to help him organize things and he offered to drive me home since it was getting late and outside was already dark. We ended up staying in his classroom until 7 pm before we left. Nothing happened, but we spent a lot of time with each other alone... I don't know what others would think of that. I've known him for a while, so we're actually pretty close and I trust him completely. He seemed nervous of running in to a colleague as we were leaving the building, but he dropped me off, we said good night, and that was it.He's a really great person and I think of him as the older brother I never had. Everything is back to ordinary again but I just needed a second opinion to know whether or not this was appropriate. Could he have gotten in trouble? Also, I never told my parents about this. I was fearful that he'd get in to some sort of trouble, so they never found out. more

Voting Question: Either she likes me or doesn't want to be my friend?

I asked a girl out after 2 weeks but I was still very nervous around her stuttering, didn't really know her and had a really bad skin condition on my face. But I feel she's showing signs she likes me: Whenever I say hi to her or wave she smiles when I'm with other people. But when I'm alone she smiles and say's hi. This is the same in class except she never says hi and she just smiles at me if there is only 1 or 2 other people in the room and they are not looking. She sometimes walks into the classroom looks at me and smiles. Always have to approach her for a conversation e.g. I will say hi and then she will ask how was/is ......... Her head is tilted slightly to the side when I talk to her and she put her hand under her hair and started to play with it and then tucked it behind her ear. Play with her hair if she see's me looking at her out of the corner of her eye. She is fine talking to other guys. As she practically ignores me when anyone else is around. When I talk to her she speaks in a softer tone and quietly. As sometimes its hard for me to understand her. There have also been a couple of occasions when she giggles very quietly. There have also been a couple of times when she has told me she is tired or cold but I'm too shy to put me arm around her. The following day after playfully flirting with a girl. I saw her with her best friend and as soon as she saw me she turned away and put headphones in. Probably if I said hi she would ignore me her best friend also looked at the both of us. Smiles from ear to ear when I approach her most of the time. She also rarely laughs at a comment I say for example I gave her my mobile phone number and she said "I'm glad your organized" and then I replied "finally" and she then started to laugh. But as soon as her 1 of her guy friends came along she started talking to him. Had around 4 periods of not speaking to each other and then sometimes I will go up to her so we can start talking again and then sometimes she will say hi to me so we start talking again. I also think one of her guy friends had a crush on her because sometimes when me and her went to speak he would be there not in the conversation but listening and then a few weeks later her best friend was talking to the guy and they both glanced at me. But I'm so worried she will reject me again as she has quite a few guy friends who she seems pretty close to. more

Resolved Question: Becoming a new teacher brings a hoard of questions...?

I am in my mid thirties and am making a career change to teach secondary english in a middle school (hopefully). I have a few particular questions that I'd like to pose to the veterans out there: 1. I see lesson plan organizer books and grade books in Barnes and Noble; are these good options (and user friendly ways) to staying organized? What about computer gradebooks? 2. What's the realistic rub on lesson plans? Should I have an entire semester of lesson plans down on a calendar before the start of student teaching? 3. Will a school provide me with a copy of the curriculum and the textbooks in the summer so that I can start lesson planning early? 4. When should you, and when should you not employ rubrics? Are they pretty much just for major assignments? 5. I have been on many websites and listened to numerous advice columns, many providing valuable help but very few touch on dealing with just basic day to day perfunctory duties (i.e. copier 101, overhead 101, etc.) Is there like a basics to classroom technology seminar that's available? 6. What's considered at your disposal when it comes to enfocing discipline? Go out in the hall? Go see your counselor? You've just earned yourself detention? 7. I received a BA in '96 and then went on to a secondary ed certification program. I did my field work and was one semester away (the student teaching semester) when I left the program. The main reason was because I got cold feet, but I also felt I was too young, not experienced enough, not developed enough. Now that I am older I feel more confident in who I am, in my knowledge base, my life lessons learned through various occupations, etc. Will this help me or will my age be a hindrance when it comes to seeking out employment? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: How do I get my prom back after being lied to about it by teachers?

Back in October, my boyfriend (graduated last year) and a teacher got into an argument outside of the Halloween dance. She said that it was a high school dance and he's no longer in high school (but they let in other graduates and even people from other schools). The next morning, the teacher and another teacher called me out of class to tell me that they talked to the principal about it and I could not attend the fall formal and prom was in question. When my mother called the school to find out what was going on, the teacher told her that I could go to the dances but the teacher preferred that it was not with my boyfriend (which was extremely different from what they told me). After being told that I could go to the prom, I bought my dress. A few days ago, the other teacher confronted me about buying my dress. When I told him that I had my dress, he wanted to know why I bought it because I was not allowed to go to prom (but they told my mother that I could go). After I listened to him tell me about how I can't go, I told him that I didn't want to discuss it in front of the entire class. I was upset about it but I wasn't going to let him know that. On the way home from school, I explained to my mother what happened during school and asked what she thought I should do about it. She suggested that I talk to the principal about it and see what he said to the teachers. I went to talk the principal but he wasn't at school that day so I talked to the assistant principal about it. He called the one teacher and asked her what happened that night. He told me that there was nothing in my records about it and he didn't know why I couldn't go. I went back to class where I have this teacher and she was in the cafeteria talking to the other teacher (I knew it was about me talking to the principal). She walked into the classroom and tells me to get out in the hall right now. I went out there and she said that it was my own "d!mn fault" that I bought the dress and she doesn't "give a sh!t" about it. I "should have known better than to buy that dress." When I told her that I was informed that I could go but SHE didn't want my boyfriend there because she didn't like him, she told me that I had to talk to another teacher who is in charge of organizing prom because it is "her prom" and she can decide if I can go. I went and called my mom because I wasn't going to be talked to like that by a teacher and I told her she might have to come up to the high school. I went and talked to someone in guidance who told me that there was nothing in my records and the teachers would have had to document their conversation with the principal and place that in my records as well as a letter that should have been sent home telling me I can't go. I have both teachers and they both like to bring it up during class to have the other students say stuff about it to upset me. I don't think that they should be allowed to bring up personal business like that. I've made an appointment to talk to our principal about it. I'm not completly sure what all to bring up and how I could go about talking to him about this. Is there anything I should bring up and what should I leave out of our conversation? Please, serious answers only. more

Resolved Question: What should I include on my UCAS personal statement for an MA in Social Work?

I've decided I want to get into social work but have limited relevant experience. I wrote to the admissions tutor of the course and was advised that I could apply now and then get the relevant experience before the course starts in Sept, which I have already organised with my local council. I need to submit my application by tomorrow and it's twice as long as the word limit at the moment! What I would like to know is whether I should include all of the following, given that they are not really relevant to social care but constitute the only related experience I have: - my time spent as a language assistant working in primary schools in France - working in primary schools teaching IT skills, literacy, numeracy, helping with general classroom activities - looking after 2 children during the holidays - working for Jobcentre Plus taking benefit claims - reading project in a secondary school Any last minute advice would be much appreciated, I'm starting to feel that perhaps I'm underqualified to be applying! more

Resolved Question: Can I delete missing files from Photoshop 6 all in one fell swoop?

Photoshop Elements 6 is driving me nuts - but by Heaven I'm going to conquer it. I'm thinking that when I first opened it, it searched out all my photos. Fine - but before I began to "REALLY" use it, I spent hours in My Pictures - Organizing and sending to the recycle bin many unwanted photos. Evidently PS 6 still thinks they are on my drive so it wants to look for them and reconnect them. NO No No....but geeze there are literally dozens. I would like to know how I can get them out of PS. It shows a picture, wants to find it, I know it's gone from the hard drive and right now I have to tell PS6 each time it encounters a missing file.Is there a way to gather up all the "missing files" and tell PS 6 once and for all to delete all of them and erase them from the hard drive. The Missing Manual and Classroom in a Box will be my guide for this new adventure in learning. But I can't seem to find an answer to my dilemma. more

Resolved Question: Trying to work out a deal with my teacher do you think it will work?

ok so im a freshman in high school and we have gym class. for some reason, gym class really stresses me out. i dont mind the health unit where we're in a classroom learning about sex, staying heathly ect.. but the actual running around doing stuff stresses me out. last year gym class was my favorite class, but this year i hate it. i love my teacher hes really nice and awesome and i like all the people in my class but i just hate the class for some reason and its really stressing me out and all i think about is worrying about gym class. im not lazy i go to the gym every day and work out on my own (like a real gym with exercise equipment). i like working out on my own. my teacher has this thing where if you miss a gym class, you can go workout on your own and have your parents write a note saying you worked out for 1hour and 30mins (thats how long gym class is) and he'll give you full credit for the day you missed. i was thinking of just doing that every gym class and working out a deal with him and my school director (person who organizes my classes) do you think it would work to replace gym class? i would still go to class when we had health units do you think it will work? more

Resolved Question: Was it a smart choice for me to leave the language classroom during class break?

I am a guy . I have been studying German in a language school for almost one year. I finished level 1 to level 4 German . Then I took the German A1 Level Exam organized by Goethe-Institut ( the cultural organization which has links with German consulate) . I passed it, received the certificate and have been allowed to Level 5 German class. I have paid school fees for Level 5 German class only . However, 4 of my friends didn't pass and they repeated level 4 German. Today, they asked me to accompany them to go to their Level 4 German class together. " So Robert you are in level 5 German now? Resolved Question: Was it a smart choice for me to leave the classroom during class break?

I am an Asian gay guy . We are still in Level 4! We miss you so much! Although you are not enrolled in level 4 German class, Come to our class and sit in! No one will know" I did go with them, but felt a bit nervous. Resolved Question: Isn't "truth" actually the exact opposite of what Christianity and organized religions are about?

Why else would they be so afraid to teach real science (i.e. evolution) in classrooms? And why would they be afraid to admit that the oldest manuscripts say different things than the King James translation? And why are they afraid to find out that other world religions came up with the same ideas independently of (and often earlier than) Christianity? more

Resolved Question: If the LEFT can indoctrinate in schools, the RIGHT should have equal opportunity to UNbrainwash don't U think?

Schools forced to teach labor union propaganda The Macon County Conservative Examiner ^ | 12/16/09 | Robert Moon Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has just signed a bill into law that forces schools to teach the glories of organized labor and collective bargaining. Doyle has received significant campaign contributions from labor unions over the years prior to forcing their special interest agenda into the classroom. Ever since unions have been involved in teaching, our system has spiraled into laughable mediocrity. It is what happens when you abandon actual education to turn children into racially-sensitive little environmentalists. Teachers' unions even tried to have the fact that 9/11 was committed by Muslim extremists scrubbed from the history books. Unions used to serve a purpose, back when there were no child labor laws, minimum wage or 40 hour work weeks. But all they do now is drive jobs overseas by needlessly making it completely unaffordable to do business here (along with tax hikes, over-regulation, frivolous lawsuits and everything else liberals support). They make seniority more important than performance. They make it nearly impossible to fire incompetents. They create abusive rules that senselessly bankrupt companies. They create unnecessary jobs to line their pockets with more union dues. They are a self-serving, purely destructive force in today's economy. Yet the people of Wisconsin are now being forced to have their children brainwashed into singing their praises. more

Resolved Question: please help!!!!!! please!!! i lied to my bestfriend and i dont know what to do! I'm sooo lost!! please read!?

My best friend went to a trip that the school organized around june, he asked me if i wanted to go but i said no. So he went by himself but well.. with another guy of my classroom. They didn't relate much anyways, and they were waaay different. But after they came back, my best friend was changed... he acted differently and almost didn't wanted to talk to me.. just with the guy he went with the trip and i felt really bad about it, i didn't know what was going on. After some days he started to talk to me, but not as we did before, and i really felt bad about that and needed to know what was going on, so here its were i started making was is probably the biggest mistake I've ever done in my life.. I told him i met this girl and that she might be interested in him. but actually the girl doesn't exist.. i just created "her" so i could grow confidence with him from a different perspective and see if i could find out what he was feeling, because by the way, asked him a lot of times what was going on, why he changed, why he didn't talked to me and that i felt bad about it.. but he just made simple answers as if he wanted to ignore me.. So my best friend started talking to "her" by messenger.. and after some days i found out what was going on.. it was a deep problem and i have no idea why he didn't wanted to tell me. So my "other incarnation" helped him solve what he was feeling and we started again to talk and do everything as we did before. The "girl" its not supposed to live here in this country so i made her leave so that i didn't push this even more.. but.. i can't help myself... i really care about my friend a lot and i know that using this "other self" of mine i can know what things he thinks about stuff that a guy-friend would never ask him for example.. and it has become part of my life now... and the worst thing is that i think he is in love with her!!! Guys i don't know what to do.. but please know that i did this because i wanted to know what was going on with my friend, i wanted to help him... but look at this hell of a mess now, i need help please, anything would help. Resolved Question: When giving a presentation, when is eye contact appropriate?

There are many answers on Yahoo about eye contact but they all seem to be about conversation. I'm asking about a classroom setting among adults whose ages literally range between 18 and 65. I teach an adult education class and consider myself to be a good instructor; however, there is always room for improvement. My timing and speech are just fine. What I'm curious about is I'd like to know where I'm supposed to be looking, when, and for how long. My eyes will naturally look in different directions as I recall information, but once my thoughts are organized I can look wherever I want. I'm especially confused where to look when someone asks a question. When answering the question do I only look at the person who asked the question, or as minutes go by do I also look at others? Please help. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Educational Trainings/ Americorps Please help?

I work for Americorps I'm trying to thing of different types of specialized trainings people might need as educational volunteers. Most of these volunteers work for after school programs or work as teachers assistants in charter schools. Here is a list of trainings I have so far: CPR/First Aid Grant Writing Seminar Financial Strategies PR and Volunteer Management Tutoring Tips Classroom Management Learning Disabilities Educational Software Staying Healthy on a Budget Networking SCIP Training Life After AmeriCorps-Resume Writing/Interviewing Skills Conflict Resolution Organizational Skill: -Putting together major projects -Organizing event/field trips Behavior Modification (Child Psychology) I should note that all Americorps workers receive less than minimum wage. Most people in Americorps don't know what they want their career to be and need help in developing professional skills. Our agency specialized in education. I am not going to use all of these as I am only setting up one training a month. I am just trying to figure out what are the most beneficial and if there is anything I'm leaving out that I should make into a training. Your answers are appreciated more

Voting Question: Where are some good places to volunteer at?

I have this thing at my school called "service hours". Basically you have to do 25 hours by the end of May.. If you don't you don't get your diploma until you have completed them.. So I was wondering if any of you have ideas of what I can do.. I barely have 5 1/2 hours... P.S. You can do things like help at the library, tutor students (elementary), help at the hospital or retirement center, or help teachers at school (organizing papers, help decorate the classroom etc. ) But some things you can't do are doing chores, or help your neighbor mow the lawn... yea so I need an answer quick! Voting Question: pleaseee help me ! anyone!?

West Chester University seeks to enroll a diverse group of talented and well-rounded individuals. We want to learn more about you and the personal characteristics you can bring to the West Chester University community. Please share with us your involvement in one or more of the following areas: extra- or co-curricular activities, performing arts, community service, diversity, volunteerism, athletics, work, leadership positions you have held, awards received, or any other life experience that has had a significant impact on you. “Accomplishment will prove to be a journey not a destination.” This quote was once said by Dwight D. Eisenhower. This being said I’m ready to complete my journey in life. My goals in high school were to maintain a job, my school work, and still being a kid and having fun. So far all my goals I have set for myself have been accomplished. Throughout my high school experience I have consumed most of my free time by working. I have worked hard since age 14. In the 9th grade I was hired by a local retirement home. I went on to work 2 full years at Lima Estates. This taught me how to learn to respect the elderly. I began at this job immature and unsure about working with the elderly. However, I left with an experience of a life time. I formed relationships with some of the residents that could never be replaced. After work I would stay with the residents and spend time with them. This experience I will take with me for the rest of my life. This job also taught me how to be able to multitask between school and my job. I feel like I was very successful with my first job. However, to better my experience and for a more beneficial job, I applied to King’s Mills. King's Mills is a fabulous banquet facility, specializing in weddings and other special occasions. Working at King’s Mills, I have learned how to work with team members and become much more organized. Our staff works hard to please all of our guests by working together. We all have jobs and when a co-worker is behind we help each other out. The surroundings at King’s Mills feel more like a partnership where everyone gets along. Between my job and school work, I also sell Avon. For me to call myself an Avon Representative is a big accomplishment because Avon products are the world's largest direct seller of cosmetics and beauty-related items. I believe my work experiences serve as building blocks and stepping stones for a successful career in teaching. I have learned how to talk to people and understand were they are coming from. At lime estates I would train the new co workers. This being said I would be a great teacher because I would be able to understand my students very well and be able to teach them everything I have learned. My work experiences have taught me how to be very helpful and hardworking. I love having the feeling of knowing I helped someone out today. Becoming a teacher is my goal in life. To walk out of my house and into my classroom every morning would be a blessing. my computer is not working on word... can anyone go over my college eassy to fix my grammer mistakes. please and thanks and if you have any ideas thanks! more

Voting Question: How's my speech for Presidential Elections?

Hey, my name is Carolina Lopes. I'm an Aries. I like long walks on the beach. Oh wait...... wooppss, wrong speech! Lets start again... Hey, my name is Carolina Lopes and I’m running for the position of President in the student council. Take a good look at me! (turn around). Don’t I look like one of those people on all the bills you guys like to spend? But before you say anything, here are a couple of things that you should know about me: I love Twilight and Vampire Diaries, I’m going to study to become a surgeon and I had a cat named Princess. But the next four qualities are what really count: leader, responsible, organized and energetic. As President I must be a leader in the school community, I have gone to Me to We the past two years and was inspired to become a leader in my school community. I have also participated in a three day leadership program at Camp Olympia in my grade 7 year. Both were wonderful experiences. Being the President comes with responsibility and a whole lot of it. I feel that I am able to take on a large amount of responsibility since I babysit a one year old and a three year old twice a week. I am also go to Portuguese School every Saturday, so while you guys are shopping, relaxing, playing video games or whatever you guys do on Saturdays, I’m required to sit in a classroom and learn. Be neat and organized is probably what all your teachers told you on the first day of school and you know what, you do have to be neat and organized in order to hand in assignments on time and do well on tests. These elections are of great importance to the future of Dante Alighieri because without them we won’t have any fun. I feel that I am the best qualified candidate to lead the Student Council and the student body. I would like to remind you that that the position of Student Council President is not a figurehead. This is a real job with real hard work, and I feel that I am the best qualified candidate to perform the job. I cannot encourage you enough to make the right choice and vote me into the Presidential Office. My dedication and hard work will lead our school into a time of prosperity. If I am elected into office, I will go above and beyond to get you what you want and fast. As President, I take order in the student council meetings and come up with fun events that everyone will enjoy. Multicultural night, talent night, pajama days and an increase in casual days are just somethings that I have in mind. I will listen to what you have to say and if necessary, talk to school officials to get your idea out there. I will make school events fun and interesting, not boring and dull. I will make sure that what we do will be done, but done correctly! Right know, I know one thing for sure. I know that at least one of you is thinking. “That girl is so fake. She’s not going to do what she says! She just wants to be the president so that she gets to be called The President”. Well I can tell you right know that isn’t true, I will dedicate myself to the job and I am absolutely not running for president just because I feel like it. I’m running because I want to turn this school around and make it a fun and amazing place to get an education at. I hope that my professional manner and serious attitude have shown you that I am devoted to being the student council President. I can assure you that you can trust me with any task or request. I have always come through in the past whether it was in organizing school events or participating in Me to We. Even though I am already part of Me to We and Breakfast Club here at Dante I chose to run for student council because I care about our school. I hope you will make the right choice and vote Carolina Lopes as Dante Junior Council President and I hope you will make the right choice for the future of our school, the future of Dante Alighieri. So when you get the ballot, put a little check beside Carolina Lopes as the clear choice for President. And if you forget my name, I look like this! (poses). Thanks and farewell :)I'm required to add info about myself and qualities and traites that I have that will make me a good president more

Resolved Question: Can i become a lawyer?

I recently found out that I have a learning disorder which has hindered my ability to learn, memorise, organise, and express detailed or specific information. I have spent my whole life battling in the classroom and basically gave up with the idea that I could ever amount to anything above average. My question is, is it too late for me? I’m 26 and have no real qualifications. I now know what has held me back and know that I’m intelligent and determined enough to concentrate on my weakness. Why law though? To compensate for my weakness I have developed strength in communication and sales in particular. Nobody ever believes me when I tell them I have no qualifications. Unless they see my handwriting of course. I know it’s going to take years to get there but I need to know if I can beat my own brain? more

Resolved Question: Too Selfish for Marriage?

Hello. I am 28 year old female, currently engaged. My fiance is a wonderful, beautiful man and of course we love each other very much! We have been dating for two years and living together for a good part of that time. We are faithful to one another. Overall, we really get along, it's smooth sailing most of the time. And we have had many romantic adventures together. But, I must say, I'm finding our life to be routine and unbearable and dare I say, boring, at times. I work as a teacher and I love my job. Yet after being in a structured environment (or rather creating structure for young people), I like to let off some steam, hang out with my friends, etc. My fiance has requested that I be home by six o'clock at least three nights during the work week. This week I spent one evening organizing my classroom and another night with girlfriends. Yesterday (Thursday) I exercised with a friend and came home at 7:20. I called him an hour before and he did not answer. When I came home, he was upset and angry. He thinks this six o'clock together time is what "every woman craves" and that I am being selfish by spending three nights in a row "out." Right now work is very stressful for him and I know it would help if I was home earlier, (to help cook, to comfort him), but frankly I find being home stressful in its own way. A boredom stress if you will. I miss my solitude time. I think about taking up new hobbies. I give a lot as a teacher and I am planning our wedding...in two months!!! I have considered moving out, but why bother at this point? And now I am considering postponing or ending marriage plans. I know doldrums and stress happen in all relationships...but I wonder how selfish am I? Is my desire for change at the expense of our relationship? more

Resolved Question: How can I convince my mom to let me change school?

I want to return to my back to my previous school. I'm in 10th grade and I currently go to Santee Educational Complex. It has low test scores, bad teachers, crowded classrooms, and gang members, but its only a few blocks from my house. My previous school has a big beautiful campus, good teachers, good neighborhood, and is very organized and parent involved. It's a 10min drive and 30mins n the I want to return because I have my priorities in check. She doesn't want me to return because 1. She's worried about who would pick me up in case of emergency 2. That I might be late 3. That I only want to go back because my boyfriend attends school there. (not true!)*my previous school only toook me 30 mins to get to on the bus more

Voting Question: Help with punctuation. URGENT - PLEASE!?

Okay, I feel the need to justify myself a little. I am an English teacher, I can do punctuation, it just takes me quite a while to go over and correct, as I was never taught it properly and have only recently mastered the rules. I need this statement marked asap as the deadline for application is today. PLEASE HELP PUNCTUATION PEOPLE!!! My professional experience has been gained through a varied teaching practice in a variety of diverse school environments. I have taught up to KS5 in both very high attaining schools and in schools where the student body is primarily EAL, with a focus upon value added attainment. I have also taught in both single sex and mixed schools. My passion for my subjects is what drives me to teach and I believe that this inspires students in my lessons. My greatest strength is planning good lessons. I believe that this is particularly important from KS4 onwards, as there is often a shift in focus from delivering inspiring lessons to delivering lessons in which the students listen and take notes. I have continued to strive for lessons where my students become fully involved in their own learning, rather than passively absorbing information from lectures. This is not to say, however, that I do not believe that there is a place for traditional teaching methods and I always try to use a good mix of both strategies. On an academic note, I not only have a degree in English language and literature but I have experience teaching Media studies and I minored in Philosophy at university. Although I would be unlikely to use this additional experience in the more traditional manner; I believe that being a good all rounder and having more than one area of expertise is invaluable in creating a stimulating, and potentially cross curricular, learning atmosphere. In addition, I have also qualified in all QTS skills tests. I believe that I meet the specifications required for this post, as I have experience in all aspects of the specific duties required to take up this position. I have worked with students of varied ages, backgrounds and abilities. Some examples being Gifted and Talented classrooms; EAL Classrooms and also one-on-one teaching. In all schools that I have worked in, I have been highly active in extra-curricular learning and mentoring and would like to continue this. Additionally, I have a lot of experience in a pastoral role at KS5; having been part of the year 12 pastoral team at Finchley Catholic. In this role, I helped to organise and deliver lessons in citizenship and PSHCE, and I built great relationships with my students. I was also able to help students to move through the difficult transitional period between school and university/employment, by mentoring them through their UCAS applications. In my plans for professional development, I have hoped to gain employment with a Sixth form college and I believe that I have worked hard to become a very rounded teacher in order to make this possible. I know that I would be an asset to Brooke House and I hope that you will consider me as a candidate.THANK YOU! more

She becomes distracting when: responding to others during class time, talking more then necessary about what the teacher is talking about, continuing to do work after the class focus has shifted to another project, and focusing on her physical well being rather then doing the work at hand. She has reasons to focus on her physical well being which is private health information not to be shared here. She has classmates who talk to her softly while the teacher is talking - they do not get in trouble for that. The classroom is divided into 8 circle desks where 3 to 5 students work in groups. There is 27 students to 1 teacher ratio. She is not getting the attention needed to understand how to behave in the classroom and it seems so far the only thing that works is constant re-direction so I spend my time volunteering in the classroom rather then doing my own work. As a single mother, head of household and sole provider this is an obstacle. How can I help her be more organized? How can I teach her to self re-direct? more

Resolved Question: Special Ed parents, what do you think?

of this message? Hi, I am a graduate substitute teacher who used to teach middle school sport & classroom teaching at Koinga. I no longer work there since it is my opinion that Koinga is a school which refuses to see the potential in kids. While in the middles, I was able to offer Campbel as much assistance in his sporting and classroom education & I felt that Campbel stood out above other students in terms of his intelligence. It is my professional opinion that Koinga school is holding Campbel back from reaching his potential. I believe he is capable of returning to mainstream schooling with some simple tutoring. I would love to organise a time to discuss this idea more with you. If you are interested in my assistance, you can reach me privately on this number. I'd love to hear from you on what you think. Regards, Susie Pok here's the amended more 'diplomatic' message. Hi Mr Jones, I am a graduate substitute teacher who used to teach sport & classroom teaching at Koinga. Unfortunately, I no longer work there & I'm afraid to say that at times Koinga misses the potential in some of its students. While working in the middles, I was able to interact with Campbel under many different circumstances which led me to the conclusion that his IQ has been undermined. It has since become my professional opinion that Campbel's learning disability can be overcome with a consistent tutoring program. I am happy to organize a time to meet and discuss this idea more with you. If you are interested, you can reach me privately on this number. I would appreciate your confidentiality on this matter and hope to hear from you soon. Unfortunately, I no longer work there & I'm afraid to say that at times Koinga misses the potential in its more capable students. While working in the middles, I was able to interact with Campbel under many different circumstances which made it clear to me that his IQ has been undermined. Having completed a major in psychology before my teaching studies, I am well aware that many aspects of psychological testing are flawed & IQ tests are not always an accurate representation of intelligence. It has since become clear to me that Campbel's learning disability can be overcome with a consistent tutoring program. Resolved Question: Do I have OCD (please help)?

ok. so alot of my friends say I have ocd. (obsessive compulsive disorder) its kind of a joking around thing. but i am starting to think i might have it... but just a itny bit. for instance, I always have hand sanitizer around with me. i sanitize my hands alot. when someone sneezes i make sure to give them some hand sanitizer(its mainly because swine flu is going around my school fast) and also if something is crooked I fix it. or if there is a little dot on the dry erase boards in my classroom, i feel the urge to erase the rest of it. i don't have to do any of those thiings. I can stop myself and just leave it, but if I am around people IM comfortable with i fix the sign or whatever. or if there is a hair on someone's shirt i take the hair off or if someone's pocket is inside out i feel the need to have them put it in. and i like things organized. but my room is wreck. i think when I am under stress It gets worse. I usually just ignore the urges to fix things. could I have ocd?? for people who have ODC what is it like?? i am 14 BTW. thanks!oh and also, another example: i left my runners in my gym locker. and i knew they were in there. because they were locked in the locker all night. but when i got to school that morning i had to check just in case they werent there... and sometimes i check to make sure that my homework is still in its binder when I know it is. ..i also need to add that, when people do thigns weird I get really agitated. and when people chew theur food weird. and when poeple say their words differently. I feel the need to say the word in my head. and stuff like that... i don't think i have it... more

Resolved Question: Is it copyright infringement to reproduce the chapter structure of a textbook, but not quote it at all?

I am developing an online, animated review course for a standardized chemistry test. I recently completed a series of classroom-based review classes based on a book put out by a review company. I would like to structure my online courses in the same manner that they structure their review books. I would not quote their text or utilize their illustrations - I just want to organize my course in exactly the same way they did (i.e. ordering the chapters and sub-chapters the same way). Would this be an infringement of their copyright? more

Resolved Question: Friend help please help me!?

My best friend, who I've known for 8 years, moved 45 minutes drive away 3 years ago. I used to see her regularly but lately having conversations is tough because we've got nothing to say to each other. If I ask her how's school going, she says 'fine' and nothing else. It's especially bad when she's round at mine, we just sit on the floor making small talk and finally I suggest to watch a DVD. At school, I hang around in a biggish group of friends. I try to be friends with one of the girls more but she's really popular and her best friend organises at least 4 things for them to do every single week. Tjhey even went to France with each other for 3 weeks, and my friend wouldn't shut up about it, and how she was so excited about it! usually I'm the one left out and although I try to be optimistic and smile and chat with them, they mock my English accent and they're mean to me (in a good way). I did just sit a little away from them because there's no one else to hang out with but they didn't even notice I was upset for a month. And if the classroom has a new layout (like yesterday), there was a seat in one part of the room next to the boy that bullies me and 2 seats on the toher side, and my friends had me sit next to the boy, even though they know he's mean to me and penalises me constantly.I am friends with other people but not close friends, my other friend said I should hang out with her more but I don;t want to lose my place with my friends. Also, I sit next to my friend in English, French and (I used to) music. I can't just break up with her! more

Resolved Question: I need ideas about room organizing/ decorating.?

Resolved Question: Why are my friends acting weird?

I have my friend group, it has 4 people in it; Sara, Tilly, Paige and me. I was talking to my one of my best friends; Lucy and she wanted to organise me, her and our boyfriends to see a movie. I told Paige about it and she wanted to come too, except with her crush... So I got her crush to come, it was all good. But then, Lucy told three of her friends and they're bringing their dates. Lucy's group kept sitting with my group and talking about the huge date thing, Tilly and Sara were really annoyed at us because we kept talking about it, and normally Tilly makes us play a game at recess and stuff but we didn't, we just talked about the date. Tilly and Sara weren't coming so they got really annoyed. When I had to go to maths (I was quite late), one of Lucy's friends dropped me off. She said bye to me and I went into the classroom and sat next to Tilly. When I sat next to her, she was pretty silent and then she suddenly started being really mean to me saying things like; "Why are you even going on that date?! You're a loser, you can't be going to see a movie with Lucy's group and stuff!" It was really annoying so I went to sit next to Alix (she is one of the populars like Lucy and stuff). Then after math, Tilly started yelling at me again! It was so annoying. I didn't really do anything! I'm not sure why she is mad at me! She got Sara to be mad at me, though Sara didn't actually yell at me. I didn't want to sit with Sara and Tilly anymore so I sat with Lucy and her group. When I got home, Sara and Tilly were being mean to me on msn! Saying like; "I hate you, never speak to me, ever!" They were being mean to Paige too... Why are they doing this?! Why are they being mean, suddenly?! (Btw, I'm a grade seven if that changes anything... =P) more

Resolved Question: Does this include an "accidental fragment"...I cannot find one?

My English Professor allows us to correct papers and resubmit them for final grades. Her comments on the following paper was that it "includes accidental fragment" I've reviewed the paper twice and cannot find any "fragments" Can you read over it and find it? We depend on our senses to process the information around us. The majority of us tend to use one of our senses more then the others, which lends to our personal learning style. There is no good, bad, right or wrong learning style, and it has nothing to do with intelligence nor skill. Rather it is the way a person's brain works best to absorb and store information efficiently. Often, people are a mixture of more than one style while maintaining a particular strength in one. As a future teacher it is important to become familiar with the three different learning styles so that the needs of every student may be reached within each lesson plan. They are often referred to as VAC, meaning visual, auditory and kinesthetic. The visual learner, is rather simply one that learns best by images and visual example. Learning for this person occurs through demonstrations and by seeing the structure of something whether it be how to build a model airplane or how to write and essay. They also tend to focus better on a reading assignment than in a pure lecture situation. A visual-learning student may struggle during essay exams, because they can't recall test material that was “heard” in a lecture. Next, the auditory learner is able to utilize information delivered orally, and often find it difficult to absorb the material if there is no sound involved. These students may find it difficult to take an exam in a silent room, and benefit greatly from talking about the material with others. When preparing for an exam, they are able to recall information when asked aloud. They do benefit from the pure lecture teaching method far more than the other two learning styles. While the teacher or expert is orally presenting material, they are able to mentally visualize and grasp what is being said while other learning styles need to visually witness the process or experience it for themselves. Which brings us to our final learning style, the kinesthetic learner. This style of learning involves learning by doing, in other words this learner relates to and enjoys activities that are hands on. These students love experimenting and often learn best by personal trial and error. Most people do have tendencies toward kinesthetic learning to some extent. Great examples of kinesthetic-learning can be cooking, working on a car, learning how to navigate through a computer program, or simply doing homework. Put simply, learning styles are the way one tends to learn best. They involve one’s preferred method of taking in, organizing, and making sense of information. Learning styles cannot actually tell you about a person's abilities or degree of intelligence. They do however help you as a teacher understand why some tasks come easily to some students, while seeming far more difficult to others. Realizing your classroom is made up of diverse needs among your students is perhaps the first step in teaching successfully . more
