Resolved Question: How many own books that are banned from public schools and library's?

Resolved Question: How do you punish a bad library?

I'll begin by saying that I am a fan of public libraries. They are an amazing public resource that is sadly undervalued by many. I've enjoyed the libraries in every city I've lived in including the busy inter-city Dallas libraries. I worked at a library in college. Nothing brings me joy like seeing people with library books. It's so pure! This may be why it's a shock to walk into a library in Kentucky and find the most distasteful humans you'll ever encounter. It's hard to imagine why these adults chose to work in such a public environment. I know of a number of people who have called to officially complain about one employee in particular. These complaints are obviously not having any impact. It's been two years since I started boycotting the library which only hurts me, not them. I returned something for a friend today and encountered the same people and the same attitudes. Civility would be acceptable. The way they treated an elderly gentleman and then myself was unacceptable. I am hoping that someone will share with me the most direct way to impact a situation like this one. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated! more

Resolved Question: Is there a rise of anti-intellectualism in America?

Now, I'm not saying all Americans are anti-intellectual, but many Americans seem to hold contempt for intellectuals. Many people bash colleges for being liberal bastions of elitism where the professors are a bunch of communist vegans who have no idea of the real world. This seems odd because in my college there are moderate and conservative professors, Christian prayer groups, and politically conservative student organizations. I heard a lot of people bash Obama because he went to "elitist" Harvard. Among the American public, basic knowledge of fields like science and geography are so low. Many people don't know where Iraq is and believe creationism over evolution. There's an increase in those who believe creationism. There's even now a creation museum in Kentucky. And we all know about how Europeans and the Japanese students outscore our students on international tests. But what really amazes me is that we are the richest country in the world with so many educational resources like the internet, the library, museums, etc. and we choose to disregard all this knowledge available to us. So many people do not have the desire to learn and rather be fed things that keep to their simple-minded worldview. What can we do to stem this anti-intellectualism in America?i feel like some people didn't read my entire description...Mike- Babylon fell because it was conquered by Persia Ancient Greece fell because it was conquered by Rome The Roman Empire fell because it as conquered by barbarian hordes. And if you think that Christian "morality" is the reason the Roman Empire fell, you have to remember that the Empire as strongest when the population was pagan, it wasn't after the Empire became Christian it started it's steep decline.Bubbles- There are people who believe in God and evolution. If you study evolution thoroughly, you will see it's a very good explanation to the origin of complex life.Mike- If you look at Roman history, many of the Christian Emperors helped to divide the Empire and persecuted non-Christians. These internal problems allowed external invasion. So if you want to blame someone for America's moral corruption, blame Bush. The one who invaded a country on false pretenses, forced politics into the justice system, and played divide-and-conquer politics. Is that moral? You must think I'm a Obama supporter. I'm not and I also think many people just immediately bought his rhetoric without research. And in regards to evolution, there's no scientific basis whatsoever for creationism one bit so if you plan to enter a biological field, please study up on evolution because it will help a lot to understand the world.O ya what I just wrote was for Bubbles.y n- one word...LOL more

Resolved Question: How much ignorance about guns and bias against them in Michael Bellesiles' "Arming America"?

I not buy his book, see it at library. Page 4-..media reinforces notion that the solution to [defense is a gun]. Pg 5-men buy rifles..not need to kill animals for their survival. 6-gun magazines never have unkind word to say about American-made guns. 8-..his .9mm pistol.. 9- Several state[s]..prohibiting..suit against the gun industry..even encourage gun use..Louisiana..right to shoot anyone trying to steal their car..history has been reconstructed to promote the necessity of a heavily-armed American public. 23-..17th Century..harquebus and musket [used]..former not very large..musket, a matchlock was a big clumsy wepon..useless in rain..fired at a tilt..Aiming was thus impossible..the longbow was a superb weapon. 40-Champlain and two..men..carried a harquebus..smallest of the muskets..firing 10-15 one ounce balls. 43-..Kentucky rifle took..3 minutes to load [In Playboy, interviewer said 4 minutes, Bellesiles made no comment] 42-..flintlock..dominant ignition system until mid 19th CentAlso say musket of 1700 no more accurate than 1850 one, he never hear of Minie ball, make musket accurate as rifle, still load quickly. Also he say Custer's men outgun Souix with 1873 Springfield repeaters, this rifle and carbine are single-shots, what ignorance about guns. My lover write books on guns, I learn much from him, Bellesiles should read them too. Bellesiles have 6 or 7 tales about accuracy of guns, not clear which guns in some cases, try say bow better than gun. Maybe I challenge him, I use worst gun we find, he use best bow, we walk toward each other, fire at will, see who win. You see more ignorance and bias in sample I give? Again I say I not waste money on kuso, wrong say I do it in other questions about Michael Moore and Ingrid Newkirk. Let us unite to fight these menaces to gunowners. My lover alone stop one magazine from having PeTA ads. You try to do that too. Stop obscene comments to me, I have nice lover, not want more, certainly not adolescents who use crudity.I see a Moore lover told me to see his stuff and I'd think he is great. No way!Our question about Moore was removed by some Moore zealot. Some people in this category and in Religion (some seem to believe Moore is a prophet) do not want anyone who disagrees with them to be allowed to say anything. That is unconstitutional. more

Resolved Question: Eight random facts I bet you didn't know?

At Disneyland they have hundreds of wild domesticated cats running around the park. They never come out during the day because there's too many people, but the reason they're there is to catch the mice. The Bible is the number one shoplifted book in America. Guinness Book of Records holds the record for being the book most often stolen from Public Libraries. Every citizen of Kentucky is required by law to take a bath at least once a year. Someone within 200 miles of your town claims to have had direct contact with a monster, ghost or other unexplainable being. Beer is made by fermentation cause by bacteria feeding on yeast cells and then defecating. In other words, it's a nice tall glass of bacteria waste. A San Diego man sued the city for emotional trauma during a concert when he saw women using the men's rest room. The entire US population can fit in Texas's boundaries. more
