Hypnotism To Quit Smoking Questions asked

Resolved Question: opinon about hypnotism?...............?

A friend of mine got hypnotized for quitting smoking. She said it actually worked - to my surprise she has infact quit smoking!! I am VERY skeptical about hypnotism. Do you think it works or is it the power of suggestion or someting? Apparently what a hypnotist does is put you in a dream like state kind of like that lucid state you have just before you wake up in the morning - an in that state you are very relaxed but also hyper concentrated - thats why ppl claim to rememver lots of stuff about the past when hypnotized. What do you think? more

Resolved Question: What do you think of the first chapter of my book?

I wrote this as the first chapter to a book I would like to write. Please, don't feel the need to be nice. I can take criticism. 1—Hypnotism? How do we know this whole thing isn’t one big hypnotism? Here, I think I’m sitting on my friend’s roof hiding from her dad, since he doesn’t know I’m living here. What if I’m really on stage entertaining an audience? Wouldn’t that be nice? I wouldn’t be living here—in secret—because my mom kicked me out due to my being an 18-year-old alcoholic, drug addict who can’t manage to keep her ass out of jail. “For my next trick, she’ll turn her life around.” Oh, I wish it could just be that easy. Sorry, that was probably just the three bowls of chronic thinking. What about later when I buy another eight ball? For those of you reading this who aren’t “drug educated,” that’s meth. It can also be other “powders,” but in my case and for the sake of this story, it’s crank, glass, ice, speed. Who am I kidding? It’s meth. It doesn’t make it better to give it a cooler name. That’s not hypnotism, I do it. What about when I have Larry drop by the liquor store to buy me another bottle tomorrow morning? Isn’t it so pathetic? I have him buy it in the morning so I can be drunk by noon and not care that I’m technically homeless. For now, that’ll be my excuse for drinking. Later it’ll be because someone pissed me off. Then, who knows what reason I’ll have. I always seem to find one. That’s not hypnotism, I live it. There I go again. I tell myself that I wish it would be easy to quit… while I’m doing exactly what I don’t want to be doing—smoking pot on the roof waiting for my next chance to score better drugs and more alcohol. I’m not belittling the fact that it’s extremely hard to quit. I just think it would be a lot easier if I did more than say that I want to. That’s not hypnotism, I hate it. How does it all start? I keep trying to ask myself how I got into it. I know that it started with smoking. It really is a “gateway.” Though, that usually means marijuana. My “gateway” was cigarettes. I loved the nicotine high, so I started chasing something better. I got it. I smoked Afghan-Chronic my very first time. Mind you, marijuana is not addictive. It’s just very habit-forming. You don’t know what to do when you’re not getting high. Nothing is ever the same afterwards; no color is quite as vibrant, no noise is quite as amazing, no text message takes quite as long to send— time goes by a lot faster when you’re sober— no pizza ever tastes quite as delicious. You get the point. It’s not that it’s addictive; it’s that it is so amazing. I don’t know what happened. I heard that THC was a mild form of Acid and I decided I needed to try that. I was too scared to hallucinate, so I chickened out. The guy said, “That’s okay. Try this instead.” He used his credit card to make two lines. He did the first one as a demonstration and I followed suit. I came to find out later—when I was begging for more—it was meth. I was 16 and it was exactly what my mom didn’t want me to be doing. Naturally, I loved it. When you go to a lot of parties, you start to drink. Aside from the time that I have been in juvie-hall and jail, I haven’t gone a day without a drink since my 16th birthday. I’m not proud of it, but that’s pretty much who I am. The second time I went to jail (and my fourth alcohol ticket) my mom told me not to bother coming home. That’s how I got on this roof, smoking this chronic, hiding from Mariah’s dad, thinking about whether or not I’m hypnotized. I’ve been sleeping on their couch, but I have to be out by 6 AM—when he gets up for work—and can’t be in later than 10—when he locks the door. When he is home, if I have nowhere to be, I sit on the roof. It’s already 11, so I have to sit here until I’m tired and then quietly go back through her brother, TJ’s, window and down to the couch. Their dad, Bryin, is pretty much the only person who doesn’t know what’s happening. That’s mostly true. They think I’ve stopped drinking, smoking, and doing drugs all together. That’s kind of a laugh to me. As badly as I want to stop, I don’t think I ever will. I’ve cut back a lot. I haven’t snorted the wonderful powder for almost two days. I know that sounds pathetic, but try going through withdrawals and being homeless. It doesn’t work, so I don’t try to make it. I’ve considered just asking if we can have a “sleepover” so that I can go through the withdrawals on their couch and get it over with. I really would like to stop with the crank. I want to have a respectable job and a family one day. That’s not exactly a drug-friendly dream. Back to my question… How do we know this isn’t just one big hypnotism? For that matter, it could just be a long dream, or a hallucination. What if I’m mentally insane and just sitting at a coffee shop mumbling incoherently to myself, all the while thinking I’m leading a life? Not a good one, but a life nonetheless. I would have a crowd of people gathered around trying to more

Resolved Question: I need help finding a hypnotherapist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Alright so I have decided I want to try hypnotherapy. I am a little nervous because people say you either can or can’t be hypnotized and I’m pretty sure I can be hypnotized because I want to be hypnotized. See if you don’t want to then you can’t right? But if you want to then you will because you are open to the experience. Also the other reason I am nervous is because I don’t want to, well, get a quack, for lack of better term. And I really have no idea what to expect. I’ve read up on hypnotism and you wont end up barking like a dog just be in this relaxed state, almost like sleep but not, I think. My Uncles wife once attended a hypnotherapy seminar to quit smoking and she says she’s never had a cigarette since, and it was a group of like 300 people. I live in San Jose California and if anyone knows of a licensed hypnotherapist that works well or have personal experience that would be great if you shared!! Thanks for any help!! more

Resolved Question: Question about tobacco and the Florida court ruling?

Ok, a Florida court ruled that this guy dying of lung cancer was the fault of tobacco companies because they hid the addictive and harmful qualities of cigarettes. So I have a few questions. #1--When he finally did find out how harmful they were would he not have just quit, like when he was undergoing chemo for lung cancer? Since if he had known how bad they were for you he never would have started, right? #2--If cigarettes are as addictive as cocaine or heroine, then how was *I* able to quit smoking COLD TURKEY with no help from any one or anything after 14 years of smoking? To me, his will power was lacking, no one was holding a gun to his head. I had tried to quit smoking before (even using hypnotism just like this guy) to no avail, but when I REALLY wanted to quit, I did! more

Resolved Question: What new products/treatments/services are out on the market for smokers who wish to break the habit ?

I am interested to know about any medical/psychological new treatments, products and services. we have nicotine gum, a nasal spray product, nicotine patches, nicotine lollypops etc etc and other non medical treatments are 'hypnotism' , and group sessions, educative literature etc. I believe that there is potentialy a surplus level of treatments and potential products waiting to hit the scene (be given the all clear) which would make quitting smoking effortless and practical, I really do. What goes on behind the curtains between governments, health care establishments, tobacco giants, illegal tobacco trade etc and how these entities influence the timing of arrival of these 'new treatments/products' is anybodies guess. If you happen to have something you can share with us, regarding this, please do. cheerio. more

Resolved Question: Strange ways to quit smoking :)?

I've been smoking since I was 15 and have finally decided to quit. No, for real this time!! I've tried to patches (kept me awake for nearly 5 days before I finally stopped them), the gum (gross, even the flavored ones), and cold turkey (nearly killed my neighbors dog, on purpose yeah, drove me nuts). I've heard of acupuncture, hypnotism, that ear magnet thingy, even smoking support groups. My question is, what is the strangest thing that you've tried to quit smoking, or heard of someone else trying, and how did it work out for you/them? more

Resolved Question: Hypnotism. I know many people have quit smoking that way, but has anybody ever heard of quitting drinking?

that way? My friend insists that it would work the same way and I am a skeptic. I'd love to hear from people who have experienced successful hypnotism. She said she would love to lose the desire to drink and says it is just like an addiction to tabacco and if those who quit smoking (lose the desire to smoke) with hypnotism help can probably lose the desire to drink with the same method. Your thoughts? more

Resolved Question: Addiction vs. habit?

I smoked for more years than I can count. (Well, not really, I can count them just fine.) I never really had a desire to stop, so any method I tried was unsuccessful. My doctor discouraged hypnotism and suggested I try a new drug, Chantix. I used it for a month and it worked like a charm, but there was one place where I really had to fight my urge, because it is where I had always smoked the heaviest. It dawned on me that, since I was having no problems anywhere else, I was tempted to give in to a habit, not a craving or an addiction. That's been seven months, and when I told my doctor I'd quit taking the medication, he asked, "When did you start smoking again?" And I told him I hadn't. I'm not going to go through this again.Landston P -- been there, done that. I had quit once before for seven months and thought "just one." Not smart. That won't happen again. more

Resolved Question: Former smokers who gave up: what method was the most effective for you to quit for good???

(with the smoking ban a few days away, i am considering quiting...i have been smoking ever since i was 15 - i'm 31 now- it's a very big step and i would like to hear experiences from others who gave up, thanks!) more
