I recently had bronchitis a month ago, and the doctor heard "bubbling" in my right lung. He gave me medicine and I got better and the bubbling stopped. But now I have pain in that same area but it doesnt feel like its "bubbling" but it rather feels sore. The pain started a few days ago. My mom is 63 years old and has been a smoker for approximately 40 years. Last year when I became pregnant she tried to quit for the sake of the baby, but has only been able to cut down significantly (so she is still smoking a few cigs per day). My mom does not go to the doctor. Ever. She says she "doesn't belive in doctors or medicine" but I really think she is just scared of what they will tell her. Her dad died from cancer when she was a teenager and I think that gave her a bad image of doctors and medicine in general. Anyway, my mom is now 63 years old and her health has been deteriorating over the past year. More recently, since November she has been having progressively more painful back pain that doesn't go away, fatigue, loss of appetite and obvious weight loss. I am pretty sure my mom probably has something serious going on. My guess is that she has lung cancer, possibly that has spread to her bones (I base this on her severe back pain). My mom still refuses to go to the doctor - and we obviously can't force her. She also won't take anything for the pain - not even OTC - other than using a heating pad. I guess my question is - what could be causing my mom to feel this way and is there anything we can do to urge her to go to the doctor??? I know it's bad because she could barely hold my daughter on Christmas - she only weighs 11 pounds... Thanks! moreVoting Question: What is wrong with my mom?

my gf is a smoker and she does it because shes a recovering viconde addict so she doesn't wan to quit so is their anything else she can do to slow the effects like lung and other cancers moreVoting Question: How do you stop a family member from smoking?
My grandparents smoke cigarettes and me and my sister are really worried about them. They've been taking medicine to help them quit. It seems to be helping my grandpa, because i haven't seen him "disappear" at all. But my grandma seems to "disappear" still. My sister and i know where she goes to smoke, and we've been "accidentally" pushing her cigarette package back behind the stack of wood beams that is near where she smokes. We think this will help, but i feel kind of guilty! I really love my grandparents and a year ago my great aunt died from cancer. She smoked too. I don't want them to die, too. WHAT SHOULD I DO? moreResolved Question: My boyfriend is having mood swings?
My boyfriend is very sweet and always level headed about things however he has recently been having terrible mood swings and not just getting angry but also extreme sadness. He's 18 and he just started himself on a diet and quit smoking. Along with that he is taking medicines to help with the pain that is going on with his tooth. I get anxious and irritable. My thoughts race. I have heart palpitations and nervous tics. I can't control my emotions. I can't concentrate. I lay awake all night with filled with worry. Unlike others, I get paranoid when I go off of pot, not when I'm on it. I obsess about trying to get some more pot even if there isn't any around. Life is stressful after quiting pot. I love it smoking refer but I know it is physically and mentally addicting. I really think its good medicine for me. I have much fewer problems if I'm stoned all day, than if I'm not. moreResolved Question: Innaporpriate calls from husband in rehab.?
My husband was admitted to a rehab facility for abuse of prescription medication and alcoholism and also to try to quit smoking weed because they all go together as any addict knows. He is in a very angry state right now though and the past two days when he calls he just gets very upset with me and acts pretty much like a smart a$$. To give you an example last night was ok... I told him I found out I had strep throat and I had been puking because of all the sinus drainage im having as well ( some kind of virus on top of it) he didn't really say anything about it... we just kinda moved on in the conversation. This morning he called me while I was at work and I had just puked all over my desk and he said whats up and I said, well I just puked again... His response: SOoo, you want a cookie or something? (Like as in do you feel special because of that). I said, umm no and he responded with "we are supposed to be talking about me, not you." I proceeded to ask him, so how are you doing? and he said "DO NOT ASK ME THAT!!!" very sternly. So I tried to move on I was just kind of ignoring his bull **** because I know why he is acting that way. He is mad because the medicines are not giving him a buzz anymore-- thats a quote. So I mentioned Christmas (he gets to come home for Chrismas) I said so your mom is wanting to do their christmas thing on Christmas day in the evening instead of going to your grandmas house and he got extremely upset about it saying all he wanted to do was see his family and I said well maybe it'd be a good idea because your grandmas house will be full of people trying to get you to use and he said YOU DON'T NEED TO GIVE ME ADVICE OR TELL ME WHAT TO DO. I talked to his counselor who said he has not shown commitment to the program thus far and they are still working vigilently with him on this and that if I recieve phone calls like that from him I am to tell him I am not going to be talked to that way and hang up. I called my mother in law and told her all this and she offered to pick up my daughter from daycare today and take her home for the night so I can get some stuff done around the house and i told her there was no extra clothes or anything for her to take at daycare and she said we have all kinda of stuff here from goodwill we can put her in, but saturday during visitation he asked me, the next time you bring her could you put her in something a little nicer??? I just can't take on all the responsibilities plus him being a jerk to me right now... I don't know what to do. Any advice on this situation would be helpful... Im so sad... moreResolved Question: inappropriate calls from husband in rehab?

Ok I am 115 lbs. 5'7 and 17 years old. I recently smoked some methamphetamine with a buddy of mine on Saturday around 6:30 pm or so he said he had $30 worth and i only took about 7-10 hits. They were some pretty good hits. When I smoke a blow out before I take a hit that way I have more room in my lungs for a bigger hit. I would say I was pretty tweaked after about my 3rd hit or so... We smoked with aluminum foil and an empty pen "neck" of whatever u might call it. I was high until about 3 pm on Sunday then I hit that stage where I basically only feel just awake ya know? I didn't really have a comedown just some slight depression. I slept in between those parts which I usually can't do. I don't really smoke often these days... But had a mean habit of it in the past. I also have many friends who do it almost daily so it's getting harder for me to avoid. And anyone who has smoked crystal knows how dependent u can be on it. Or at least it hards to get away from even I'd ur not "hooked" I don't think unwilling be qutting any time soon. Even though I had. Alrady been locked up for 8 months for doing robbery and battey to support this habbit. So your advice to quit or seek help would honestly only mAke me pissed becuz I have heard enough shit from ppl already. All I want is an answer. Will I be clean by this Tuesday around 10:00 AMish for a drug test??? I also have been drinking slot of water and have been sweating alot. (sex helps lol) and if I will be, is there Any OTC medicines I can take to somewhat help substitute this addiction? such as diet pills or enrgey pills? ( I can't get ritallin or aderall or anything that prescribed with amphetamine becuz my psychiatrist already know of my drug abuse.) all I take is wellbutrin and Prozac in the morning... Anyways can u answer these handful of questions for me? Plzzzz and thanx so much. I am depending on u guys for help right now. This is my way of helping MYSELF and it's the only route I am going to take to quit or die trying!!! (it's that bad) thanks.... moreVoting Question: prescription medication and smoking but trying to kick the habit.?
My boyfriend takes Paxil for anxiety, he also smokes.... I've been trying to help him quit for months and have had no luck. He thinks that he'll be able to quit cold turkey on January 1, 2010.... I think it's impossible because he couldn't do it before.... I have put our relationship on the line because his smoking is not something I'm willing to deal with for the rest of my life so by January 1, 2010 its me or the cigarettes... I really want to be able to help him overcome this addiction but I'm not sure it its safe for him to wear nicorette patches or chew the gum while on Paxil... I'm sure its no more dangerous than taking the medicine and smoking at the same time as it is... I'm just trying to get opinions to know whether or not I'd be wasting my money buying this for him?? Anyone here ever try quitting while on prescription meds before? moreVoting Question: I am trying to quit smoking, but why can't I stop coughing?
Ok, so I am cutting back my smoking to eventually quit. I notice that once I've gone past a certain time that I would usually have a smoke I start coughing like crazy! To the point where I have trouble breathing. I figured it's my lungs trying to clear themselves out. I usually try to bear with the coughing but it gets so bad that after a while I just have a smoke just to make it go away! For example: If I skip my bedtime smoke I'll wake up in the middle of the night or very early morning coughing and coughing. I can't stop coughing until I have a smoke! By then of course I am awake and it messes up with my sleep schedule. So the real question is, is it really my lungs trying to clear themselves up? Or is it a habit I'm doing instead of smoking? Can/should I take cough medicine to help clear it up? I know some of you will say: "Try the patch/gum/what ever scheme" I've tried it. It didn't work and the stuff just got me sick so I'm doing it the old fashioned way. Other people will say: "Go ask your doctor!" Well I'm going too! Just my appointment was made the soonest they could do it... which is two weeks away. I don't think I can take another two weeks. Anyways, help anyone?Ok, I know HOW to quit smoking what I am asking is HOW DO I DEAL WITH THE COUGH??? moreResolved Question: What are the easiest and most successful ways to quit smoking?
I have set a date to quit smoking here in a couple of weeks..I'm not sure how I plan on going about it yet. I tried cold turkey and it was NO GOOD...i want to try another method this time such as medicine, the patch, acupuncture, shock therapy, etc. I was just wondering which ones were proven most effective and any personal experiences would help a lot as well. moreVoting Question: Had been by-passed (quadruple) almost 10 yrs now. What should I do?
Aware that a by-passed procedure lasts only from 10 to 15 years, what are my options beyond those periods? What am I to do if say, something goes wrong with me after 10 or 15 years or even before those period arrive? Right now, with every itch, slight pain and flick of my heart, I get scared. I haven't been a saint two years after my surgery although I did quit smoking, ate....oh well, foods that should have been deleted from the menu, exercised regularly the first three years after surgery (i stopped completely now) and started drinking again from the recommended two beer bottles or a glass of wine daily to a five days a week session (bottomless). I also stopped monitoring my lipid profile since a year ago. The only thing I can brag about is my dedication to taking all the medicines prescribed to me diligently. Somebody recommended that I should undergo another angiogram NOW!. moreResolved Question: Do i have anxiety or is it because i quit smoking weed?
I have been smoking weed on and off for about a year. But it hasnt been since this summer that i would smoke every single weekend (multiple times a weekend). It has been 11 days since i smoked weed, and before that i would smoke maybe once during the school week like a said and alot on the weekends. But right now i am like constantly being bored because normally i would just go get high and everything is fun when your high compared to sitting on your ass at home not doing anything and wishing you had something to do. I have also sort of been somewhat depressed this past week or so. Its weird to Ill be happy then ill be depressed (ill be like damn my life sucks im bored and dont have shit to do). I used to take anti-anxiety medicine and it sort of calmed me down. Right now Im starting to wonder if maybe its just the fact that i havent smoked in 11 days and i should start anti anxiety medicine again. Any thoughts? moreResolved Question: Is a nicotine medicine reccomended when first quitting smoking?

By naturally i mean natural medicine and change of lifestyle. I was diagnosed with high testosterone i might be a pre diabetic due to pcos. My dr wants me to go on Birth control. I refuse to. I quit smoking drinking and cut all sugars from my diet.. and he wants me to put those pills in my body. I feel better i'm more energetic, happy & calm. But the hair loss still continues. Does anyone here think its possible? 1 month since lifestyle change. moreResolved Question: I hate just about everyone?
I quit taking my mood stabilizers last October (so a little over a year now) and then I quit taking anxiety medicine in June, and everything was going okay, for a while. Now it seems as though I hate just about everyone, and I mean everyone, except my family. I just feel as though no one lacks originality or intelligence anymore, or they're complete attention whores. I'm wondering if I'm just having epiphanies now that I'm off of all the medicine (was on it for about 5 years), or if my mental disorders are just starting to fire back up again. It seems as though when I smoke weed, all of those hateful thoughts go away, but I can't smoke anymore. What do you guys think?Oh, I've also lost much of my sexual desire with my fiance (who irritates me much easier now). I go to bed much earlier (about 9 PM is when I start laying down) I quit playing all of my instruments, and I seldom draw (which is bad, because I'm an art student) The only thing that hasn't changed is my undying love for animals, and some of my core morals moreVoting Question: How long should you have problems before seeing a gastroenterologist?
I am very constipated and bloated. Have seen a doctor, medicine did not help. I quit smoking 3 weeks ago and that is when the constipation started. I eat 25g of fiber each day, drink a lot of water and exercise every day. So its not my diet causing this. How long should I wait it out before a see a specialist? Im very stressed about it. I know specialists are very expensive and I cant really afford one, but Im feelingterriblee. Please advice.Thank you for all your answers so far. I dated my ex for about 8 months. 5 months in the relationship he decided to talk about children. I already have a child from my previous and tormentous marriage. he pushed me to make a desicion right then and tell him if I ever wanted kids.. I realized I don't. after that moment I kind of drifted appart knowing that the relationship would not work based simply on this and other issues we were having. we have been taking breaks here and there and finally last month I broke up with him.. but now I don’t know what to do he is going crazy on me...literally he asked to talk to me and we did I told him again that we should go different ways. He asked to give him one more chance but I told him I made up my mind and that this is as far as this relationship could go. I have drifted apart from him months now and he knows that but somehow has been in denial. Well he is taking that medicine to quit smoking that makes him have crazy dreams but bad thing is he is NOT quitting smoking yet and he has been drinking a lot last night he called me he was seeing things and he was in very bad shape… I don’t know what to do. I feel guilty… he is having such a hard time he is depressed and I didn’t want to cause this pain on anybody…what can I do? moreResolved Question: Anyone who have been on Chantix also have the terrible cheast pains?

I have decided to quit smoking and have been smoke free for 10 days now except on Saturday when I did smoke a few cigarettes, but nothing since then. My question is - now that I am not smoking I am coughing like crazy. And what I am coughing up is even crazier! Nasty, sticky and sometimes brown. My friend told me it is tar from when I smoked, is that true and for how long do I cough it up after I quit? FYI - I am not using any medicine to quit, just lots of water to flush the toxins out of my body and chew Juicy Fruit when I get cravings. Any other ideas? Mean, nasty or spam comments will be reported.I am trying to stay away from the medicines or patches or pills at all cost, I tried to use Chantix last year and O'Boy will never trust them again. Do I got cancer or something ? Let me know asap plz . moreVoting Question: What is enough to prove emotional abuse in NC or to the Military?
My husband has been emotionally abusing me for some time now. I just found out he is cheating on top of it all. I have finally seen the light, but now I am doubting myself and I am not sure if it is legitimate or if it's just the resurfacing scars of what he did to me. (I now see that he is NOT always right and I am NOT crazy) Some of the things he did was make me feel guilty if I didn't do what he wanted (sexually and not) and not speak to me for days and even weeks at a time as punishment, no matter what I did it was never good enough, blaming me and accusing me of things that were not my fault, invalidated my feelings and needs, told me I was making things up all the time when I knew I wasn't but he convinced me that maybe I was, threatened to leave me all the time and used that fear against me, he had drastic mood changes and his views and feelings about things changed on a regular basis, and he berated, belittled and shunned me. He was also telling people we were getting a divorce and I was crazy well before we separated the first time and even after we got back together and started to reconcile. I know these things are easy to say he did. I can recall many accounts where these things have happened. Though they never witnessed it first hand, I have four people who I spoke to on a regular basis who can attest to my negative character changes due to this treatment as well as the emotional suffering I went through. One of these people I mostly talked to via IM, and I have most of the conversations over the past 5 months or so, which are almost like a journal. I know the text messages, e-mails and phone records can be retrieved. I also have an e-mail from one of the marriage counselors that we (and I really mean I) tried and it says in there I have to stop allowing him to manipulate me. I am sure the first counselor would also have some insight as to this. Finally to prove injury I have the medically documented proof that I have lost 25-30 lbs in the past 4 months (not healthy for my height or starting weight), I have insomnia due to this, and I am now on an anti-anxiety medicine because I could not deal with the stress from it. I have also increased significantly in smoking. (I had actually quit and started again) He is active duty in the military. I guess my question is, is this enough evidence to prove he is guilty of "emotional maltreatment" as is both illegal in NC and according to the UCMJ?I do not want to save this marriage. I will never trust him again. The I had a brief meeting with a JR Attorney who told me that emotional abuse is domestic abuse based on NC laws. Also, the UCMJ says emotional maltreatment is. You don't need a grounds for divorce. moreResolved Question: In your opinion, what is the best way to quit smoking?
Cold turkey, patch, medicine? Any successful quitters on here?I am more of a "secret smoker". Alot of people in my life don't even know I smoke. I can't believe I just admitted it on here. lol. I really only smoke a couple of packs a week at the most. I am just finding it hard to totally give it up altogether. But, I am so ready to be rid of this habit. moreVoting Question: My mom smokes around me?
She has been smoking around me ever since I was in the womb. She smoked the entire 9 months of pregnancy, and knew the effects it would have on her child. She obviously didn't care, or she would've at least stopped for those 9 months. In the past year or two, I developed asthma from being around her and my dad from second hand smoke. My dad has tried to quit before, so i applaud him for it, and do not bug him as much about it. My mom has never even taken the time to try and quit. I tell her to stop, because of the effects it has on me and her. And if she won't stop, she can at least try and keep it away from me. She says she tries to smoke away from me, but I really don't see it. She smokes once in the morning, while she drives me to school, which is a 5 minute drive. I ask her if she can at least wait until I'm out of the car to do it, and she says no. When we're in the car going anywhere she has at least two, and I ask her to always roll down her window, and put her cigarette in the hand closest to the window, which she rarely does. In the past year my asthma has gone from just needing an inhaler to needing an actual medicine for it because she can't put forth the effort to TRY and stop, or just stop smoking around me, and wait 15 minutes until I'm away from her. I am barely ever around my dad when he smokes. My parents are divorced, and at most I am only exposed to one or two per week around him, while around her I am probably exposed to 50 or more. What should I say to her to try and get her to change her mind? She doesn't seem to care that she is slowly killing me, with every cigarette she has.If I throw my mom's cigarettes out, I will be in so much trouble. Grounding for a long time, and thats not something I want. My boyfriend's mother overcame it, but my mom says she just can't.My dad also smokes, he has tried to stop. So that is why I don't bug him much. I have asked my mom why my dad didn't get my custody, and she said there were many reasons. (He has physically hurt her.) moreVoting Question: Help with my essay on drug abuse?
I have to write an essay on drug abuse. I'm in middle school BTW. Please help and tell me what you think. Here it is. I know what you thinking. Oh, great. Another ‘Drugs are bad! ‘, Speech. But even if you have your doubts, they’re more important then you know! Now I’m going to talk about different types of drugs. For instance, Marijuana is actually very popular. You would probably know it by ‘weed ‘, ‘pot’, and ‘grass’. But guess what? It’s illegal! Bad. Being caught having the drug can very easily lead you to jail. Here’s a fun fact. In 2006, 25 million Americans age 12 and older had abused marijuana at least once in the year prior to being surveyed. A survey showed that 10.3% of 8th graders, 24.6% of 10th graders, and 31.7% of 12th graders had abused marijuana at least once in the year. Just think, a kid in your class could be on drugs. Just think, that’s just ONE drug. Let’s take a look at Nicotine. Nicotine is the drug in tobacco leaves. One pure drop could kill someone! Nicotine is in cigarettes. It is also chewed, spit, and sniffed as Tobacco. More than 3 and one-half million teens between the ages of 12 and 17 use tobacco-that's about 15 percent of teens that age. Of those, just over 3 million, or 13 percent, smoke cigarettes. In the U.S., 66.5 million people, or about 29 percent of the population, use tobacco. Wow. Even I had that face of shock when I read that. I’m eleven, almost twelve. And to know that twelve year olds use tobacco? Drugs. Six years ago they were in kindergarten playing house, or tag! I’m going to talk about another common drug called Steroids. Steroids are used to build muscles. Great huh? Get some killer abs, impress the girls . . . Lets see the side effects, eh? Acne, stunt in growth, high blood pressure, trembling, and a rare liver disease. For girls, they can grow facial hair, baldness and a deepened voice. For guys, a type of cancer, and development of breasts. Behavior can include mood swings. Thankfully, few teens have used steroids. Most teens are smart and stay away from steroids. As part of a 2008 survey teens were asked if they ever tried steroids—even once. Only 1.4% of 8th and 10th graders ever tried steroids and 2.2% of 12th graders. However, among those who do abuse them steroid abuse is higher among males than females but is growing most rapidly among young women. Abuse is also well known to occur in a number of professional sports, including fields such as bodybuilding and baseball. Now I am going to talk about how addictive drugs are. One hit. Oh, it’s no big deal. Before you know it you take another hit. Eh. Third hit . . . you’re hooked. Drugs are very addictive. Most commonly cigarettes are. Patches and medicine have been suggested, but they can fail quite easily. So? You might be wondering, why don’t they just quit? Here’s the thing . . . They CAN’T! Nicotine for example, is highly addictive. Your body begins to need it. Do you remember when you had to break the habit of depending on your pacifier? Or sucking your thumb? Picking your nose? Biting your nails? Even picking at a scab. Drug abuse becomes a HABIT. You begin to DEPEND on it. You begin to NEED it. To feel good. Most abused drugs produce intense feelings of pleasure. This initial sensation of euphoria is followed by other effects, which differ with the type of drug used. For example, with stimulants such as cocaine, the "high" is followed by feelings of power, self-confidence, and increased energy. To feel better. Some people who suffer from social anxiety, stress-related disorders, and depression begin abusing drugs in an attempt to lessen feelings. To do better. The increasing pressure that some individuals feel to chemically enhance or improve their athletic or cognitive performance. Curiosity and "because others are doing it." In this respect adolescents are particularly vulnerable because of the strong influence of peer pressure. These are all some reason people take drugs. Now I’m going to tell you some ways to tell if someone is abusing drugs. If a person fits under this category, I suggest you talk to person, or contact a parent, family member, or even the school principal. Physical Signs: Change in sleeping patterns ,Bloodshot eyes Slurred or agitated speech, Sudden or dramatic weight loss or gain, Skin abrasions/bruises, Neglected appearance/poor hygiene, Sick more frequently ,Accidents or injuries, Behavioral Signs: Hiding use; lying and covering up, Sense that the person will "do anything" to use again regardless of consequences ,Loss of control or choice of use (drug-seeking behavior), Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, Emotional instability, Hyperactive or hyper-aggressive, Depression , Missing school or work, Failure to fulfill responsibilities at school or work, Complaints from teachers or co-workers, Reports of intoxication at school or work, Furtive or secretive behavior, Avoiding eye contact, Locked doors, Going out every night, Change in friends moreResolved Question: Smoking while pregnant help please!?

Well, I felt horrible sharp pains in my chest, upper back and under my armpit. Not just sharp, but shooting and aching. Besides that I felt fine. I am a smoker of 6 years. Which doesn't look too great on me. Finally after 2 months of pain, it got worse. Fever, chills, almost throwing up. Went to the ER, they did an X-Ray. Come to find out I've had pleurisy for 2 months, it got worse. And on top of that have Pneumonia. They gave me antibiotics and steroids. I quit smoking for 2 weeks and got lots of rest. Drank plenty of fluids and took all my medicine. Well, after that the pain was a 5 instead of a 10. Still felt so so. Well, I broke down and smoked a few one night. The next day it was a 10 again. Haven't smoked now for 3 weeks, I'm done! Well, the pain has gotten worse, to the point I want to cry. Shouldn't I feel better by now? I'm 19 by the way. moreResolved Question: can someone summarize this article for me?

Health Promotion and Wellness Programs: Top Health Risks By John Bates Obesity, tobacco use and stress are the most common hazards to health in the American workforce. In addition to the direct harm they cause to individual wellness, they also provoke many indirect issues related to health care. Weight loss and tobacco cessation are similar in that they both require behavioral modification and a comprehensive maintenance plan to curb the chances of a relapse. Staff qualifications should indicate training and experience adequate to deal with this type of psychology. Furthermore, weight loss and tobacco cessation programs have varying success rates across different demographics and within small groups; therefore, health promotion and wellness programs have to be tailored to fit individual needs. Before a diet and exercise plan can be implemented, a Health Risk Assessment is necessary to seek out pre-conditions for heart disease or stroke which could be compromised by the health promotion and wellness program. Exercise programs and nutrition education should be scientifically-based, drug-free and physician approved. Weight loss has to be the result of a balance between caloric intake, healthy meals and exercise. For resources and guidelines pertaining to obesity, nutrition, exercise and diet plans, consult: National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute Physical Activity Programming Encouraging people to exercise involves more than merely offering physical activity opportunities. Motivating employees includes acknowledging their present sedentary lifestyle and persuading them to make realistic and alternative lifestyle choices. The exercise program should be selected by the employee and offered during a time that is convenient for them in order to achieve a consistent participation rate. Education will be necessary to teach employees the relationship between activity, diet and health and to demonstrate how this can be changed to encourage physical wellness. Health promotion and wellness program supervision will be necessary to ensure that injury does not develop and exercise programs are introduced safely. Appropriate education in physiology, sports medicine or an equivalent and have a current CPR/First Aid certification should verify that health promotion and wellness programs are operated safely. The Health Risk Assessment should be checked to ensure the participant has agreed to a referral, elected exercise options and verified that there are no contravening health issues that preclude an exercise program. Staff should monitor heart rate and blood pressure to protect health promotion and wellness program goals during all intervention procedures. Safe exercise guidelines are offered by the American College Of Sports Medicine. Free Fitness Handouts and Fitness Posters can also be found at Wellness Proposals Tobacco Abuse Smoking cessation is one of the most difficult health risk issues to tackle because nicotine is considered to be one of the most addictive substances. In order to succeed, participants must want to quit. Preparation to quit, support with choosing a method to quit and visible proof of results need to be demonstrated. Counseling should be available for the participant at any time. Not all cessation programs work the same way with everyone. A qualified counselor should recognize individual differences and be able to match cessation programs with individual preferences. Diet plans, exercise programs, and activities that preclude smoking need to be presented as part of the cessation program. Relapses are common; therefore, a maintenance plan is mandatory. Nicotine substitution patches, sprays, gums or other medicinal options should be included in the counseling session to support cessation efforts. Guidelines and resources for cessation programs are plentiful. Some of the best offerings are presented at the Surgeon General's website, The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, The American Lung Association, or Smoke Enders. For the purpose of tracking tobacco cessation success rate, the participants who began the program need to be the same ones who finished it. Maintenance parts of cessation should be recorded for a minimum of one year. Healthy Choices, Healthy Diet The Health Risk Assessment tests where nutritional education would benefit. With almost a seventy percent rate of obesity, the American workforce is in dire need of healthy food choice counseling. Health promotion and wellness programs promote better food choices by teaching participants how to identify low carbohydrate, lower calorie, high protein, and high fiber foods. Explaining the relationship between obesity and the escalating incidence of heart disease, Type II Diabetes and health care costs should help motivate participants moreResolved Question: My husband intnetionally got me pregnant, and I'm pissed!?
Look, I am 14 wks pregnant and soooo upset. We already have a 15 month old bundle of ENERGY and I cant keep up with her half the time. Shes just too busy and I am so tired. Its hard trying to be a full time mom and I am so tired anyway, my husband told me to go off birth control because he said it was making me fat, not soon after he was ejaculating in me everytime we made love and I asked him to stop. Please Help my dr is on vacation!!?
I quit smoking 3 weeks ago. When I was quitting I went to the doctor because I coughed up blood. My dr gave me advair and albuterol. Didn't tell me why or anything. Being someone who doesnt like medicines, I didnt take anything and figured I would just wait it out, that the blood could have been from sinuses etc and if it was urgent it would be different. Last night I had severe difficulty breathing and needed to take the albuterol. It helped me to breathe, but then I started foaming from my mouth. I fell asleep and when I woke up I was burning in my chest and my lung felt like someone is stabbing it. Is this all related to asthma? I never had it as a child and am nervous. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Is this really necessary?? Pictures of blackened lungs, etc. on cigarette packs?
I understand the U.S. has some of the weakest laws regarding this type of thing but this seems kinda unfair. Are they going to start putting morbidly obese people on fast food containers?? Homeless alcoholics on liquor bottles?? http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20090827/hl_hsn/getreadyforgruesomecigarettewarnings THURSDAY, Aug. 27 (HealthDay News) -- Would a gruesome picture of a cancer-ravaged mouth with rotting teeth make you think twice about buying a pack of cigarettes? That's the goal of new federal regulations expected to go into effect within three years. The rules will require tobacco companies to cover at least half of the front and back of packages with graphic -- and possibly gruesome -- images illustrating the dangers of smoking. If U.S. regulations are modeled after those already in place in Canada and other countries, the warnings will be shocking: blackened lungs, gangrenous feet, bleeding brains and people breathing through tracheotomies. Though hard to look at, the more graphic the image, the more effective in discouraging smoking, said Stanton Glantz, a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and director of the university's Center for Tobacco Control, Research and Education. "The graphic warnings really work," Glantz said. "They substantially increase the likelihood someone will quit smoking. They substantially decrease the chances a kid will smoke. And they really screw up the ability of the tobacco industry to use the packaging as a marketing tool." moreTop Quit Smoking Medicines Links
