Resolved Question: Are Duralast ignition wires made by Bosch?

Read this only if you feel like a little slightly related back story: The shop thought I had a bad coil pack, replaced it, plugs and wires and then found out it was actually a broken spring in the head. They told me they were taking it all back out and wouldn't charge me for any of it. The day after I picked up the car I found out I had a new static tick on the radio that followed my RPM. I've had this problem before because of cheap spark plug wires, so I popped the hood and to my surprise my Ford wires had been replaced with wires that had no brand name printed on them. I brought it back to the shop and after about five minutes under the hood they assured me the ticking was unrelated and likely due to a bad ground somewhere. They'd be happy to diagnose it for $80. I was just about positive it was related so I decided to tell them no thank you and took the car back home. I popped the hood and had my wife sit in the car and listen to the radio while I pushed on the spark plug wires on the coil pack. After about 30 seconds we found the culprit wire. It didn't stay 100% seated in the coil pack and when it backs out it causes static ticking on my radio. I could turn the tick on and off like a switch by pressing on the wire. I took the car back and the shop reluctantly replaced them with the same wires as he used last time. He told me when he gave me the keys back that I might want to get upgraded wires or I'll probably still have this problem. I asked why I should have to pay extra to fix a problem they caused. He said he did me a favor by not charging for these wires. I replied there was nothing wrong with my old wires and they actually fit my car. He said I had a broken spring AND a burned out wire--I know, it's entirely unlikely if not completely impossible that both failed at the same moment, but that's his story and he's sticking to it. He said I should by some good wires that will cost about $80 and that would take care of it. I told him I'd be perfectly happy with a name brand aftermarket, like Bosch (which I looked up for my car and only cost $40.) He then told me the wires he used were made by Bosch. I asked why they didn't say Bosch, or any other brand on them. He replied because they're made for another brand that resells them. I asked which brand, in fact I had to ask twice before he reluctantly told me they were Duralast but he assured me Duralast were made by Bosch. Sounds very unlikely. I looked up the Duralast wires that were put in once I got home and they only cost $25 at MSRP. Thanks for the great "favor" right? They charged $1,100 to fix the spring in the head, obviously no favors there either. more

Resolved Question: HAHAH VIKINGS WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!?

All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen, acquired by the Vikings in an April trade with the Chiefs, has his own welcome-to-the-rivalry ritual in mind for Rodgers. “Playing Green Bay on Monday night to start the season – that’s everything you want,” Allen said. “Hopefully, I can put my helmet square in the back of his spine.......... Wow thats dumb to say now Allen just got his Qb in trouble cause Greenbay is going to remember that game day and now look at this.. Sirius NFL Radio reports that Vikings LT Bryant McKinnie will be suspended four games for violating the league's personal conduct policy. Minnesota faces REs from Green Bay (Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila), Indianapolis (Dwight Freeney), Carolina (Julius Peppers), and Tennessee (Kyle Vanden Bosch) in the first four games, so Tarvaris Jackson will likely have a rough early ride with journeyman guard Artis Hicks guarding his blind side.... Packers def is going to make allen eat his words watch and see. more

Resolved Question: Range Rover: 1999 (Bosch): Replacing Ignition Wires: Ignition Coils Almost Inaccessible. Help !?

I have a 1999 Range Rover - Bosch Engine. (Land Rover is the manufacturer). (LR switched from GEMS to Bosch in the middle of that MY. Mine is from the 2nd 'half' of the model year: Referred to as "MY 99 - On" in LR literature and manuals). I have never replaced ignition / spark-plug wires before. The wires run from the spark plugs back to the ignition coils, which are in a profoundly difficult place to reach: Behind the plenum, facing the wall that separates the engine compartment from the back of the radio / hvac controls. The consensus on the DIY Range Rover board that I frequent is 'get ready for a miserable experience'. The wires are generally connected to the ignition coils 'blind' - just going by feel. I tend to be a creative planner and am not yet ready to accept that I am destined for gloom, despair, and agony with this project. Could some of you more experienced guys please let me know your thoughts. I would very much appreciate it. more

Resolved Question: How do I stop my new car radio draining the battery on my FIAT Punto Sporting MK2?

I bought a Silvercrest Car Radio with CD and MP3 player (KH2380) from LIDL a few weeks ago? http://www.mysilvercrest.de/en/artikel.php?a=98 However I believe the unit is totally draining my car battery – the battery had been dead now on three occasions after not driving the car for about 2 to 3 days. The car is a FIAT Punto sporting MK2 – 6 years old (1999 / 2000 Model). The first time this happened I changed the original battery for a brand new one (Bosch Silver) which I’d first charged overnight. The silvercrest only has 4 pins on it – I have read somewhere that the wiring for the FIAT Punto was non standard and that you need to swap the yellow and red wires around. Or just remove the yellow wire totally that supplies power to the unit even when the car is off? I do not mind losing radio presets as I only ever listen to CD / MP3 anyway. My main concern is to always have a car that starts. more
