Today, however, people are more conscious of the needier across the whole world, through the use of television, newspapers, radio, the internet and many other useful sources. Therefore, throughout all religions and cultures people are more aware than ever about global crisis’ and they have realised that poverty and disasters happen more globally than they recognised before. The Old Testament teaches Christians that unless you help the poor with consideration, you would be punished. In the book of Exodus, there are clear guidelines about how to treat the poor with kindness and aid and avoid exploiting them. This is shown in the book of Leviticus 25:35-37 ‘If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unstable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or temporary resident, so that he can continue to live among you. You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit.’ The profits had also made it very clear to the Jews that they should treat the poor with kindness and respect. This theme is continued into the New Testament when Jesus began his teachings. Jesus quoted from the Old Testament, ‘...To preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind. To release the oppressed. To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’ This was quoted from Luke 4:18-19. more

Voting Question: Do you listen to classical radio stations, or do you have secret "inferior" tastes you won't admit to?

I read something really amusing in the news a couple months ago: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/16/business/media/16radio.html Apparently radio stations have for decades relied on surveys to determine listeners' tastes, but they recently decided to go the route of television and monitor what people *actually* listen to. The results? People in surveys tend to over-report how much they listen to jazz and especially classical music, because they thought it made them sound more cultured. Actually, this part wasn't amusing- a lot of radio stations, after hearing this, talked about possibly cutting out classical airtime. But I'll admit I wasn't that upset, because I almost never listen to the radio- I always go with CD's. The part I thought was funny was what men secretly listen to. Light rock, and specifically Celine Dion? Hahaha... So they only *pretend* to have better taste than women. I'm wondering two things, answer just one if you want: 1) Do you listen to classical music radio, or to radio at all? What do you think of the results of this ratings system? 2) Do you secretly listen to music that is really "inferior," but you can't help it? And please let's not be horrible snobs about the latter. Everyone has guilty pleasures, and hey, this site is anonymous. I heard a few times today, the news, the radio, a couple churches, and friends that the Christianity religion is becoming what is called Christian Mythology because the Christianity population was getting lower and the Jewish was gaining. Do not feel bad, I was in Norse when it was a religion, it turned into mythology and I do not worship it anymore. That was just about 12 years ago. So what do you think? A bit of a rant - but with a point- So many European countries had far more interests than we did, especially China. The USA has taken the brunt of the criticism, and we're taking it from all sides, when there were others in there before us with stronger connections & ties. I think many other world leaders are laughing at the suckers the USA has become. We're taking care of the dirty work, only private corporations are seeing the profits from this war, while other governments can spend their time & resources on taking care of their own and moving their economies forward. Our own "free press" is anything but "free", we're all owned by corporations down the the deodorant we use and the news we are allowed to hear - sounds like the old USSR doesn't it?. You all probably get more real news & accurate info regarding us than we do at this point! At least you know when you're probably missing something. This Digital TV transition our fine politicians snuck through 12 years ago, is the biggest farce - now we have to pay for TV reception, pay per channel if we want it, and pay again watching the hundreds of commercials. That's if you can get reception or choose to pay. No alternatives, analog TV is gone. They offer cheap cable for 6 months, then they double the price once they've got you. They are trying to do the same with radio. So what happens to communication during the next crisis? Now to receive communication, we need to use even more electricity to run communications, so I guess the poor will be left out of any emergency plans should another disaster hit. The greed has been allowed to grow unchecked for so long that we don't even own our own banks nor financial system anymore! The Pacific Rim and Europe hold our mortgages and own our homes. I worked hard saving to travel the world when I was younger while others spent their money on partying, etc. - saw many "educated" Americans during my journeys, but it seems that the country that has some of the most educational opportunities, least restrictive and cheap to travel, has this great "free press", yet we seem to be some of the most ignorant people on Earth! Of course these are "stereotypes" yet they seem to be more true than not these days. I'm looking for some outside perspectives. Willing to listen to your rant also! peace. more

I think that they have done just that. Face it, politics are a part of pop culture and in pop culture when something is hot people swarm towards it and emulate it. But when that hot trend over saturates the pop culture consumers the consumers turn away leaving that last trendy thing to history. It becomes a laughable cliche. Has the conservative movement gone the way of the pet rock, hair bands, The Macarena and so on? I say it has. When the conservative movement chose to take on pop culture and go about recruiting through pop culture it unwittingly set its self up for failure.
