Radio Controlled Aircraft Questions asked

Open Question: How can I listen to Air Traffic Control?

I have a hobby of going to my local airport and watching aircraft takeoff/land. I was wondering how I could listen aircraft frequencies without anything else. I realize I could use LiveATC.net, but I want to extend a little beyond that. I also have seen some radio scanners but I feel like I would be paying for features I don't need. I don't need to "scan" anything. I already know what frequencies I'd like to listen to. I also don't need the ability to listen to frequencies beyond the civil aircraft range. (I believe its 108-174 MHz) It would be nice for it to be portable and have a 3.5mm audio port. I also have a limited experience with electronics, and might be able to build one, but I don't know where to start. I also have a somewhat limited price range but it's not static. Any help would be greatly appreciated! more

Voting Question: The US has thousands of old fighter plane in storage. What about converting them into drones?

It seems that as the services use more and more of these drone aircraft, how hard would it be to strip out all of the unneeded 'manned aircraft' equipment and turn them into radio controlled drones. Imagine the firepower that a light weight old F8U could carry. more

Resolved Question: Current or former military pilots or weapons officers, I need some help with radio phraseology please.?

I'm putting together a flight video using a simulated AC-130 Spectre gunship. We will be attacking two simulated ground targets: A vehicle convoy using our Vulcan cannons and a weapons depot using the Howitzer in Iraq. I need a realistic callsign that would be used for an aircraft/mission like this, and realistic voice commands for clearance to engage the target, target in sight, weapons fired, and when the target is destroyed. Just a few examples of what these might sound like would be really great! I'm a real commercial pilot, but the radio jargon we use is nothing like military jargon. Would the commands come from a ground command station, or from the control center in the aircraft? more

Resolved Question: Can someone please read my story? Thanks.?

Here's the link to the first one: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AulxwUY2UPbiPELPjhfmJ5Hsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100305205806AAdC5F2 Alright, here's where it left off. Kelley tapped his shoulder. “We’re ready for takeoff.” Her small voice barely made it over the roar of the hurricane. He nodded, and pulled on his headphones. Climbing into the cockpit, he glanced over at Dakoata. She was staring straight out the window, white knuckles gripping the controls. “Are you okay?” He asked, concerned. “I’m fine.” Cade sat back in his seat, upset at himself and this whole storm. As the helicopter pulled away from the landing pad, he stared at his partner. She was beautiful, even at eleven at night. Her dark brown hair was swept into a loose ponytail. Stray hairs caught themselves in her thick eyelashes, and into her stormy grey eyes. Dakoata sighed. She was tired and angry at Cade. Oh God, she thought, it’s so stupid to be arguing over this. He just makes me so mad sometimes. Cade cleared his throat. “Dakoata, I’m sorry. This isn’t crazy, it’s just—“ “I don’t care, Cade. Stop talking, please. I’m trying to concentrate.” She looked straight ahead into the storm, a wistful look on her face. She was sweating hard: her forehead and neck gleamed with perspiration. Suddenly, Jeremiah radioed her. “Hey Dakoata, the place you’re looking for is Sandia Island. It should show up on your radar.” Dakoata simply nodded, and spun off in the direction of the well-known island. She sighed, keeping the battle in her heart to herself. Lord, why am I feeling this way? I love Cade, and he can’t see that. We argue all the time, and it’s always a battle when I try and talk to him. What she didn’t know, is that Cade was having the same discussion with God. I want to ask her to marry me, he prayed, but when she acts this way, I always question myself. He shook his head. The other question is if she loves me too. Cade laughed. “Dakoata, this is silly. Come on, let’s get over it, and move on… please?” She didn’t answer, only nodded, and smiled. Cade’s intense brown eyes cut into hers, making her blush, and sweat even more. In the midst of the storm, there was peace in that helicopter. For the remainder of the flight to the tiny island, Dakoata and Cade relived old memories: going though Coast Guard school, their first mission, and other significant events in their lives together. “There’s the island.” Cade pointed up ahead. Dakoata pushed the helicopter on, circling above the landing pad. The harsh wind made touchdown hard, and they ended up slightly off course. However, the greatest difficulty was stepping off the aircraft and taking in the sight before them. Twenty high school students stood in front of the helicopter, terrified. Dakoata ran over to them. “Alright kids!” she screamed over the storm. “We can only take for at a time, so choose who you want to go first!” Obviously, the teenagers had already chosen ahead of time. Four of them stepped forward, holding their bags. But, Cade frowned, and told them to leave the stuff. Only people went. The hurricane was getting worse, and they hadn’t even begun flying the kids back. Once the four teens were loaded safely into the passenger area, Dakoata climbed in. Taking off was rough, but finally, they were airborne. more

Resolved Question: What is the best website for about Model Airplane Kits information, products and experiences?

Hi using Model Airplane Kits is one of my favourite aviation hobbies. I think it would be great if there was a website I could go to which had information about the hobby including various products available, stories from experience and other relevant Airplane topics. I already build various different model airplane's using kits from Revell, AMT (They design, develop and manufacture small gas turbines for the propulsion of a radio controlled flying aircraft) and sometimes Airfix for various Scale Model Kits. I would be really pleased if a website existed where I could go to share my experiences and learn from others and gain knowledge. I will read your answers carefully and take my time as this is a hobby close to my heart. I look forward to hearing all of your answers before carefully selecting the best answer, good luck everyone! more

Resolved Question: Russian navy claims Haiti earthquake was man-made?

Could that be possible? I came accross various articles on this subject online, here's one: The Russian Navy reports that the U.S. created the earthquake in Haiti The Northern Fleet has been monitoring the movements and activities of U.S. Marines in the Caribbean since 2008 when the Americans announced their intention to reestablish the Fourth Fleet, which was disbanded in 1950, and that Russia responded a year later, with the Fleet led by the nuclear-powered cruiser Peter the Great "by starting its first exercises in this region since the end of the Cold War.” Since the end of the decade of the 70's in the last century, the U.S. "advanced a lot" in the state of its earthquake weapons and, according to these reports, they now use equipment with Pulse, Plasma and Tesla Electromagnetic and Sonic technology together with "shock wave bombs." The report also compares the experiences of these two earthquake weapons of the U.S. Navy last week, when the test in the Pacific caused an earthquake of magnitude 6.5 to strike in the area around the town of Eureka, Calif., causing no casualties. But the test in the Caribbean caused the death of at least 140 thousand innocent people. According to the report, it is "more than likely" that the U.S. Navy had "full knowledge" of the catastrophic damage that this test earthquake could potentially have on Haiti and had pre-positioned its Deputy Commander of the Southern Command, General PK Keen, on the island to oversee aid work if needed. As regards the final result of the tests of these weapons, the report warns that there is a U.S. plan to destroy Iran through a series of earthquakes designed to overthrow its current Islamic regime. Additionally, according to the report, the system being tested by the USA (HAARP Project) would also create anomalies in the climate causing floods, droughts and hurricanes. According to another report, coincidentally, facts exist establishing that the earthquake in Sichuan, China on 12 May 2008, a magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale, was also caused by HAARP radio frequencies. It can be observed that there is a correlation between seismic activity and the ionosphere, through the control of Radio Frequencies Induced by force fields, which is a HAARP feature, and it can be concluded that: 1 .- Earthquakes identical in depth and linearly on the same fault are caused by induced frequency linear projection. 2 .- A coordinated satellite configuration can generate concentrated frequency projections targeting specific points (force fields). 3. A diagram shows that earthquakes considered to be artificial propagate linearly at the same depth. -Venezuela, on January 8, 2010. Depth: 10 km. - Honduras, on 11 January 2010. Depth: 10 km. - Haiti, on 12 January 2010. Depth: 10 km. The rest of the aftershocks occurred at depths close to 10 km. Soon after the earthquake, the Pentagon said the hospital ship USS Comfort, which was docked in Baltimore, summoned its crew and sailed to Haiti, despite the fact that several days would elapse before arrival in Haiti. Nevertheless, Navy Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the U.S. armed forces were preparing an emergency response to the disaster. General Douglas Fraser, Commander-in-Chief of USSSOUTHCOM, said that Coast Guard and U.S. Navy vessels in the region were sent to offer help even if they had limited resources and helicopters. The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson was sent from the naval base at Norfolk, Virginia, with a complete consignment of aircraft and helicopters. It arrived in Haiti early on the afternoon of January 14. Other additional groups of helicopters will attach with the Carl Vinson, said Fraser. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), operated in Haiti before the earthquake. President Obama was informed of the earthquake at 17.52 on January 12 and asked his staff to ensure that embassy officials were safe and began preparations to provide needed humanitarian assistance. According to the Russian report, the State Department, USAID and the U.S. Southern Command began its work of "humanitarian invasion" by sending at least 10,000 soldiers and contractors, to control Haitian territory, rather than the UN, after the devastating "experimental earthquake." more

Resolved Question: Can the Military be helpful in solving the problems of Aircraft Terrorism?

Has the USA Learned Any of These Things Since the Christmas Bomber Attempt? Here are some things that perhaps we could have learned from the Christmas Bomber's attempt to kill 300 people with explosives in his underpants. Which, if any, of these things do you think we may learn. #1. To use a Google style system on a national security intra-net grid, which allows every word in a psot to be indexed, and then allows all posts in the system to be cross-correlated based on incoming questions, like for example, just inputting somebodys name, or just the word "nigerian", or just the word "visa" #2. That systems which have the capacity to get slack, become much more likely to get slack at major holidays like Christmas Eve, and that Al Qaida is so smart that they have figured that out, and are fully able to plan their attacks for our most vulnerable moments. #3 That we need to start tracking potential America haters long before they do anything wrong. We need to have a list of potential enemies of the USA based on behavioral factors. This list would not be an accusation, or an indictment. It would just be sort of like a radar reflector tag, so if one of these people shows up at any security related event (like a flight), at least we know a bit about that person's background. #4 With shoe bomber and the underpants bomber both failing for lack of a proper detonator, it's likely that Al Qaida now knows that most high explosives do require a blasting cap to set them off. Electronic blasting caps can be radio controlled. Al Qaida does know that, they don't have to rely on Lonely Answers Club to learn it. #5 The next aircraft bomber is probably going to carry the bomb tucked in to their intestines. Properly shaped and placed 3 oz of semtex would be very hard to see on a full body scanner. Al Qaida has such a scanner, so they could make sure the HE was invisible. Radio controlled detonators can be made of lightweight plastics and installed with the HE. 3 oz of semtex would blow a 747 out of the sky. Suicide bombers are there to die, so having the bomb inside their intestines is not a problem for them. For us it could be if we haven't done any behavioral profiling and we have no idea who our enemies are likely to be (like the guys at the CIA camp had zero clue about who was their friend and who was their enemy). #6 John Brennan has not tendered his resignation, or if he has Barack Obama has not accepted it. Both men are talking about general diffuse systems failures. Obama now says that all leads should be run down by some person who will be held accountable for doing so. Running down leads combined with an intranet Google style database of indexed notes would be a powerful way to find needles in haystacks. Somebody is putting queries in to a system that is designed to correlate previously unconnected data based on incoming queries. So dots get connected. The machine does it. It does the "analysis". Lead chaser just puts in the well-written queries. By the way Admiral Poindexter was fired from DARPA and the CIA for suggesting just this sort of data mining in real-time approach. Maybe the government owes his an apology. You may feel that we won't learn any of these things. Or maybe just one or two. If nothing on my list seems worthy to you, let me know your list. If you like some of my things, let me know what you like. Thank you so much. more

It was Al Qaida's failure to grasp that the high explosive they were using, even after it was properly mixed required either a spark, or a sudden compression to detonate it. The underpants boy was not a chemist, so he's not the weak link that caused the failure. He did his part. Most patriots feel that going through security at airports is the price we all have to pay to assure that the flights are safe. Don't grumble about that. You are 100% correct about the need to put more hellfire missiles on more training camps -- let's get that done pronto. Airport security should be 30% watch lists, 30% behavioral and religious profiling, and 40% searches. Quick pats for Australian nuns. Full Super-Max Police Searches for all Moslems. Full Body scans for all persons on any watch lists. It's cheap, it's one more level in the perimeter defense process. Just do it. Your best idea: Predators to Yemen Bigtime Now! more

Maybe the government owes his an apology. You may feel that we won't learn any of these things. Or maybe just one or two. If nothing on my list seems worthy to you, let me know your list. If you like some of my things, let me know what you like. Thank you so much.Answers to Lou and to Pooh Bear To Lou: It's true that 95% of the terrorists in the past 10 years have been Moslems. Any rational logical person would note the relatively high correlation between Moslem and Terrorist as compared to say Buddhist and Terrorist. Given such a correlation anyone not drunk on Political Correctness Kool-Aid would factor that is to perimeter defense processes. We are Totally Drunk on Political Correctness, and we love it more than life itself. This could be fixed with more intelligent ethical awareness and an ethics of responsibility (rather than metphysical purity to a cloudy ideal). To Pooh Bear: Things go slack on holidays -- that's a fact jack. on the detonator you refuted yourself, thanks. 3 oz semtex would blow a 747 to smithereens. You are clueless. Resolved Question: wiring an edf elec motor?

I have obtained a complete radio control unit & edf motor plus speed controller (less instructions) for model aircraft My problem is how do I connect the brushless motor to the speed control. I have a plastic housing that holds four "A" type batteries there is no obvious way to connect the + - from the controller to this unit. I assume this is the power unit for the motor. normally I would go to my local model shop but its 30 miles away. I searched the net, but unable to find help there. I would appreciate any help as I would like to give this to my grandson at xmas. thank you. p/s yes I realise a diagram would solve this problem where do I get one. more

Resolved Question: Pilot in command question.?

Airline pilots?....on airliners we all know there is a Captain and a First Officer.....(Pilot and co-Pilot) The aircraft is designed to have the pilot in command sit in the left seat and the second pilot sit in the right seat. (radio number 1 operates off of the hot battery bus in case of total loss of generator power) Who does the FAA consider to be the "Pilot in Command"? Is it the pilot flying the aircraft....which is a duty handed-off back and forth during any given flight....or is it always the pilot in the left seat no matter who actually has their hands on the controls? Does the FAA recognize the titles of Captain and First Officer...are those FAA designations?....or is that technically window dressing for the flying public?...titles that the airlines created.Facinating, thanks to both of you for great answers. Was just wondering this since the Northwest incident. Is the SIC any less responsible for the overshoot? more

Resolved Question: Radio frequency of aircraft over South Wales...?

Hi there... I am staying temporarily just outside Llanelli in South Wales. Whilst outside in the garden, I can see aircraft passing over head from east to west and vice versa. Some of the aircraft, by the look of it and from the sound of the engines, seem to be ascending having taken off fairly recently. What I am keen to find out, and purely as an novice, is where they are headed? Is there a radio frequency they are contacting air traffic control on an what is it? Like I said, just a little bit of interest. Any help appreciated. Thank you very much. Brenton more

Resolved Question: Using multi-channel radio gear for other remote control systems - Electronicly related?

Hi, I have spent a long time researching up about using multi-channel radio control equipment (specifically aircraft RC systems as they have a large range of channels) and interfacing it with motors and other devices well outside their capable operating range. There are a few things I would like to know about how they can be integrated. One of the most annoying things about aircraft RC systems are the much lower voltage used on the reciever end (4.8V - 6V) compared to RC cars (6V-12V). I first realised that this was not as simple as I once thought when I was given 3-channel RC helicopter transmitter and reciever and in the hope of wiring the RX outputs to transistors and being able to drive my higher voltage, high power motors. However this miserably failed when I realised that the reciever output was pulse width modulated so there was no linear voltage relationship I could use to drive a transistor with a variable voltage level across the base. I have looked around at frequency to voltage converting circuits and the like but I have not found any practical ones I can build with what I have. I remember hearing somewhere an RC filter can be used but has a comparably slow response time to frequency changes. Here are the questions: 1) In most aircraft/helicopter RC systems, there are toggle switches on the controller. Do they just change the reciever output on and off? 2) What is the simplest, most effective way of converting a PWM/frequency modulated signal into a linear voltage ranging from 0V to supply voltage (depending on pot position)? 3) How do people build these high power remote control machines/robots in terms of the transmitter & reciever (converting the PWM signal into a linear voltage or some other method)? What type of high-power switching system is used to isolate the reciever circuit from the high-power circuit? (Transistors, relays etc...) 4) Where can I find an example of how an electronic system is integrated for use with radio control equipment? (Something like a control circuit for a robot from battlebots or robot wars) Would be grateful for any helpful information, Thanks. more

Resolved Question: What is it like in the cab of a locomotive for the Engineer?

I've seen the videos on youtube, but I want to ask you guys and gals directly. Locomotive cabs are rather austere. They lack the ergonomics of an aircraft cockpit. The aircraft has carpeted floors and sheepskin seat covers. Six way adjustable seats. Cup holders and reading lights. The pilot straps on the airplane, so to speak. I recently visited the Railway museum in Sacramento and the shop at Bailey Yards in NE. What's it like in the cab of a locomotive in harsh weather? Do you have heat controls and AC? Are you allowed to play the radio or portable music devices? Do engineers report to a "traffic controller" of sorts? Or is it all automated signals now days? What do the signals mean? Red over green, that sort of thing. I rode Amtrak recently for the first time. It was great. more

Resolved Question: What about the black boxes on the flights involved in 9/11?

I am seriously not into conspiracy theories, but I can't help to think it was strange that the black boxes were not recovered, or publicized to have been recovered, in any of the crashes involved in 9/11. If I remember correctly in most major plane crashes they go for the black boxes pretty aggressively. For example, in TWA flight 800 they dove to the bottom of the ocean to find it, and in that Valuejet crash in the everglades they dredged 100 ft of muck to find it. But none of the 9/11 flights' black boxes were mentioned, not even in the 9/11 commission, they were depended only on radio transmissions with aircraft controllers on the ground and not records of how the planes were being controlled along with all the voice recordings. That is what a black box does if I understand it right. What gives? The flight that went down in Pennsylvania, as far as the physics are concerned, wouldn't have been that abnormal of a wreckage site. Yes it was a debris trail that was very spread out, but I don't think impact and incineration are as much of a factor here. ______________________________ I've gotten some interesting links here. Resolved Question: With the anniversary of 9/11 quickly approaching I have some questions... Prove me wrong, if you can!?

We all know that there are a lot of conspiracy theorist out there claiming that the attacks on the towers were inside jobs. I do believe that we were lied to on many of the facts surrounding 9/11, however I want to know if anyone can prove my facts wrong that it WAS an inside job. 1.) The government has been involved in "False Flag Terrorism" (operations are covert operations conducted by governments, corporations, or other organizations which are designed to deceive the public in such a way that the operations appear as though they are being carried out by other entities. The name is derived from the military concept of flying false colors; that is, flying the flag of a country other than ones own. False flag operations are not limited to war and counter-insurgency operations, and have been used in peace-time; for example, during Italy's strategy of tension.) since the 1950's. What would keep them from using it now? We all know that the government has used fear in the last decade or so to get laws and/or certain bills passed (ex. Patriot Act) to have more control over the people. This has been quoted by many famous dictators... "This and no other is the root from which a tyrant springs; when he first appears he is a protector." - Plato "If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." - U.S. President James Madison "Terrorism is the best political weapon for nothing drives people harder than a fear of sudden death". - Adolph Hitler "The easiest way to gain control of a population is to carry out acts of terror. [The public] will clamor for such laws if their personal security is threatened". - Josef Stalin So who is to say that this was not the case with 9/11? 2.) Why did our government ignore all of the prior warnings that we had stating an attack on 9/11 was imminent? The administration's claim that terrorists crashing planes into buildings was not foreseeable is contradicted by numerous sources: Initially, the CIA Director had warned congress shortly before 9/11 "that there could be an attack, an imminent attack, on the United States of this nature. So this is not entirely unexpected" according to a broadcast on National Public Radio. And the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee was "not surprised there was an attack (but) was surprised at the specificity... (he was only) shocked at what actually happened -- the extent of it" And the U.S. received warnings from numerous foreign intelligence services about planned attacks, many of them quite detailed. Indeed, America's closest ally apparently tracked the hijackers' every movement prior to the attacks, and may have sent agents to film the attack on the World Trade Centers. And for God's sake the Pentagon tracked the hijackers before 9/11!! Verify at (http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2005/11/17/122900.shtml) 3.) On the very morning of 9/11/01, five war games and terror drills were being conducted by several U.S. defense agencies, including one "live fly" exercise using REAL planes. Then-Acting Head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Richard B. Myers, admitted to 4 of the war games in congressional testimony. Interestingly, Vice President Cheney was apparently in charge of ALL of the war games and coordinated the government's "response" to the attacks. See this Department of State announcement. And while the government has consistently stated that it did not know where the aircraft were before they struck. The Secretary of Transportation's testimony before the 9/11 Commission, shows that Cheney monitored flight 77 for many miles as it approached the Pentagon. How could one of the most heavily-defended buildings in the world have been successfully attacked, when the Vice President of the United States, in charge of counter-terrorism on 9/11, watched it approach from many miles away? Fighter jets were also sent far off-course over the Atlantic Ocean in the middle of the attacks (testimony of Senator Mark Dayton), so as to neutralize their ability to intercept the hijacked airliners. Could Osama Bin Laden and his sent-from-the-cave band of followers have exercised this degree of control over the military? Obviously not. And air traffic controllers claim they were still tracking what they thought were hijacked planes long after all 4 of the real planes had crashed. This implies that false radar blips remained on their screens after all 4 planes went down, long after the military claims they purged the phantom war-game-related radar signals. Could Bin Laden have interfered with the full purging of false radar blips inserted as part of the war games? In other words, could Bin Laden have overridden the purging process so that some false blips remained and confused air traffic controllers? 4.)Numerous experts have stated that three World Trade Center buildings were brought down on 9/11 by controlled demolition: A prominent phys more

Resolved Question: Zeitgeist Addendum True?

Because of tremendous advantages given corporations by lawmakers who owe them their positions, monopolies are gaining more control. The comforting assumption that “I can make a difference” is farther and farther from reality. Fewer corporations own more and more companies. Many of the same people sit on the boards of various major corporations besides their own. The corporations that own car and aircraft companies may also own food, radio, TV stations, magazines, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and armament companies. Ten major lending institutions control virtually all the credit cards in the U.S. The wealth and influence of these corporate elite can not be equaled or countered by the workers who enabled them to acquire such wealth. With media companies today owned and sponsored by large corporations, it is difficult to know whether the news can be trusted. Seems Zeitgeist Movement may be on to something? Is the use of money old and self defeating as history has shown? more

Resolved Question: Why are more men interested in flight than women?

I've noticed that many more men seem fascinated by flight than women. In particular, in my favorite hobby of flying radio controlled aircraft, there are no females that I've ever seen participating in it. I've often wondered, why is this so? Even with younger kids, the boys seem much more interested in watching me fly my planes then the girls are. There must be a gender factor at work here, yes?Well, of course I'd rather be flying a real plane or helicopter, with me in it! Do you think I'm crazy? But where am I going to get the money for flight school? Although, with all the money I've spent on my model planes over the years, I probably could have learned to fly a real one. But I would never have been able to hide that expense from my wife. more

Resolved Question: What do you say to ATC when maneuvering to avoid traffic?

So, I am just getting back into flight lessons after a long break and I am trying to re-familiarize myself as much as possible before I start back up. This is kind of a specific question for a situation that has come up in the past. At the time, my instructor was PIC and I don't recall fully what he did. I'm sure this comes up a lot though in practical situations. So heres the scenario...i'm in controlled airspace, class B perhaps, and have been instructed to maintain altitude and heading by ATC. Then lets say, the controller alerts me of trafic in the vacinity. I respond "Looking for Traffic, Cherrokee XYZ" After scanning, I spot the traffic and notice the aircraft is at an altitude and heading that would require me to deviate from my course & altitude to avoid unsafe proximity. The best way to avoid would be to do a diving right turn. I realize that its important to react first, and then worry about ATC. So I do this, but what happens over the radio? If theres time, should I notify atc when I first come in sight of the other aircraft before maneuvering to see if he has alternate instructions, or should I just say say "Manuevering/Deviating to avoid traffic"? and do it. If I were to tell the ATC that there is traffic at xxx heading towards me, what instructions would they likely give? Then, once I am clear of the traffic, what next? Can I return to my previous altitude & heading without permission from ATC? Do I wait for them to instruct me to do something else? I just like to have every possible senario planned out in my head so I don't freeze up when the time comes. Thanks for the help. more

Resolved Question: Will this get published?

this is just a short exccerpt from my chapter in my book.....just want ur opinions thanks Marshall inside his cockpit was getting apprehensive, but not nervous. This would be the most powerful rocket plane he has ridden to date. His job was to test some interface system for a new upcoming NASA mission, and some powerful rocket engines at the same time. To pass the time, Marshall listened to music on his ipod he brought with. Yes, it is unprofessional, but Marshall had ridden so many rocket planes, test flights were now routine to him. But what he really longed for was to be in NASA. To be the best of the best, not best of the rest. He had applied three times, and failed twice. “Ignition in T-minus 60 seconds,” Jose squawked like a lunch lady from high school on the radio. Marshall sighed. “Ok, let’s do this,” Marshall whispered to himself, and slid his helmet visor down, the shadow created slithered over his tan face and sleek black hair. He watched patiently the seconds count down to zero. When one turned to zero, a sudden shudder rocked the airplane as the aircraft was freed from the wing pylon. He looked up out the bubble canopy glass and watched as B-52 slowly drifted away. It was quiet, save for the sound of wind bristling the cockpit canopy, for the sleek black aircraft was now soaring through the air like a giant eagle of steel. The whole world seemed still and peaceful, the quiet before the storm. Marshall then turned his vision forward to the great expanse in front of him. The sight was astounding. To be that high and watch all of the land below him, the desert, the fine line where the desert meets the forest, spying on the people in cars on their way to the city. He felt like a king, watching with noble and pleased eyes over his vast kingdom. But Marshall knew his real mission was not to have visions of grander, he leaned forward and flipped open the ignition button protection. And with this one quivering finger, Marshall hit the green ignition button and shoved the throttle forward, unleashing the fury of the storm. Now a teeth rattling hit shook the aircraft; the rocket engines were on. Marshall felt his body pressed against his seat from the force of the acceleration, and heard the high pitched scream of the rockets blasting the aircraft forward. When the engines reached their maximum thrust capacity, he watched the clouds zoom by, like the hash marks on a road when you’re going 65. The speed dials spun out of control, like a compass surrounded by magnets. Here he was, probably going faster than any human has ever gone, his aircraft splitting the air, slicing through clouds. Marshall heaved back on the control stick, pointing the aircraft towards the heavens. He looked back; the land was very far away now, looking hazy behind the veil of clouds. Even at such a dangerous height and speed, he gallantly pressed on. Now almost in space, Marshall could see the lustrous blue halo covering the curvature of the Earth, growing little by little, and the luminous moon ahead of him, the lighthouse of space. Almost out of Earth’s grasp, almost an astronaut, almost space traveler. He was teetering on the edge of a dream. Every month he would come so close to his dream, to go to space, yet every month his aircraft would collapse before the finish line, sputter and whine before crawling back to its den in the hanger. As time went by, and the acceleration turned slowed, and the scream of the engine stopped, Marshall felt his body thrown forward by the force of deceleration. His blood pressure lowered and he felt cold from all of the adrenaline. Sighing, he pointed the nose of the aircraft down to the ground and prepared for landing. “whoooooot, what a ride!” He screamed out no one, “whooot what a ride!” more

Resolved Question: Should the government or Area 51 expose the truth to us about what has really been going on?

Area 51 is situated in the southwestern portion of Lincoln County in southern Nevada in the western United States. A large military airfield is situated at its center. This center is known as the most secretive places in the world. Although, the base's primary purpose as explained by the authorities is to support development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems, there are thousands of people who do not believe this story. The intense secrecy surrounding the base, the very existence of which the US Government barely acknowledges, together with reports of unusual phenomena has led it to become the frequent subject of conspiracy theories and UFO folklore. There are many stories circulating around on Area 51 - most of them are about UFOs and aliens. I have tried to compile some of the unconventional activities claimed to be underway at Area 51. I have also included some supposed proofs in favor of these claims. Let me know if I have left some other ideas out of this hub. 11 FAMOUS AREA 51 FOLKLORE 1. Alien spacecraft storage: Storage, examination, and reverse engineering of crashed alien spacecraft 2. Study of aliens: Examination of dead aliens that came in UFOs and interrogation of living aliens 3. Manufacture of aircraft based on alien technology 4. Meetings or joint undertakings with extraterrestrials 5. Energy weapons: Development of exotic energy weapons said to be many times deadlier 6. Weather control: Established means of weather control or experiments undergoing over it 7. Time travel: Establishedmeans of time travel ordevelopment of time travel technology 8. Aurora aircraft: Development of unusual and exotic propulsion systems related to the Aurora Aircraft Program (a cutting age spy plane) 9. Politics and secret society: Activities related to a supposed shadowy one world government and/or the Majestic Twelve organization (A secret committee of scientists, military leaders, and government officials, supposedly formed in 1947 by an executive order of U.S. President Harry S. Truman to investigate UFO activity) 10. Simulation of moon's environment: In 2000-2001, Fox Television broadcast a show about Apollo moon landing hoax accusations, in which it was suggested that the entire moon landing in 1969 was a hoax and was filmed in parts of Area 51 11. Misdirection attempt: During the mid 1990s, the most secret work previously done in Area 51 was quietly moved to other facilities and the continued secrecy around is largely a successful attempt at misdirection "PROOFS" SUPPORTING THESE CLAIMS 1. In 1989, Bob Lazar claimed that he had worked at a facility at Papoose Lake (which he called S-4) on such a U.S. Government flying saucer 2. The 1996 documentary Dreamland directed by Bruce Burgess included an interview with a 71 year old mechanical engineer who claimed to be a former employee at Area 51 during the 1950s, working on a "flying disc simulator" built to train US Pilots, based on a disc originating from a crashed extraterrestrial craft. During his career at Area 51 he claimed to have worked with an extraterrestrial being whose name was "J-Rod", described as a telepathic translator 3. Dan Burisch (real name, Dan Crain) claims to have worked on cloning alien viruses at Area 51, also with the alien "J-Rod" 4. In July 1996, a man named "Victor" announced on Art Bell's Coast to Coast AM radio show that he had a videotape of an alien interrogation which had taken place in Area 51. He claimed that he had made a copy of the tape during a scheduled transfer of analogue videotape files on the base into digital form, and had then smuggled the copy out of Area 51. The video appears to show the head of an alien creature in a dark interrogation room, allegedly using telepathy to communicate with military personnel and scientists. The footage was eventually included in a video documentary entitled Area 51: The Alien Interview more

Resolved Question: Is this why their forcing us to switch to digital tv. To get ready for the mark of the beast?

I didn't realize that this was a global thing. And if the governments are involved then somethings up - I don't suppose they will be starting their own entertainment channels. If this is global does this mean that governments co-operating with each other on a grand scale. It also sounds like its something they have been pretty keen (desperate) to get their hands on. What makes these frequencies so desirable over others? How do these analogue frequencies interact and affect others i.e. mobile phones, digital tv, radio frequencies, infrared and ultraviolet, the brain frequencies, radiation, microwaves etc. Is this a spying thing? A tracking system for the chips they want to implant humans with? A new internet to link up global surviellance? A new radar system to keep up with advances in invisible aircraft? Something do to with space and SETI? Is it a form of behaviour control, mind control? They would need something uniform across the world if the chips are going to be tracked worldwide. You would need one big network of local (cell) towers (notice how many of these have been going up lately and how they are being hidden and disguised) which pick up the analogue signal from the chip then inserts the information into a central database (dna database anyone?) The information can be used to activate a camera to watch and listen to what we are doing and they can then bellow orders to us through the ones which talk (or create a voice inside our heads to talk to us). more

This is from a question I answered yesterday. Someone ask what a 'clunk' was. I know from experience that 'clunks' are used in radio controlled aircraft. Do they use them in full sized aircraft too. I can only find references to R/C aircraft. more

Resolved Question: are you afraid to fly in an airplane?

i sure am... ever since 911.... Exchanges overheard between pilots and control towers: ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- Tower: "Delta 351, you have traffic at 10 o'clock, 6 miles!" Delta 351: "Give us another hint! We have digital watches!" ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- Tower: "TWA 2341, for noise abatement turn right 45 Degrees." TWA 2341: "Center, we are at 35,000 feet. How much noise can we make up here?" Tower: "Sir, have you ever heard the noise a 747 makes when it hits a 727?" ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- From an unknown aircraft waiting in a very long takeoff queue: "I'm f...ing bored!" Ground Traffic Control: "Last aircraft transmitting, identify yourself immediately!" Unknown aircraft: "I said I was f...ing bored, not f...ing stupid!" ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- O'Hare Approach Control to a 747: "United 329 heavy, your traffic is a Fokker, one o'clock, three miles, Eastbound." United 329: "Approach, I've always wanted to say this. I've got the little Fokker in sight." ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- A student became lost during a solo cross-country flight. While attempting to locate the aircraft on radar, ATC asked, "What was your last known position?" Student: "When I was number one for takeoff." ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- A DC-10 had come in a little hot and thus had an exceedingly long roll out after touching down. San Jose Tower noted: "American 751, make a hard right turn at the end of the runway, if you are able. If you are not able, take the Guadeloupe exit off Highway 101, make a right at the lights and return to the airport." ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- Tower: "Eastern 702, cleared for takeoff, contact Departure on frequency 124.7." Eastern 702: "Tower, Eastern 702 switching to Departure. By the way, after we lifted off we saw some kind of dead animal on the far end of the runway." Tower: "Continental 635, cleared for takeoff behind Eastern 702, contact Departure on frequency 124.7. Did you copy that report from Eastern 702?" BR Continental 635: "Continental 635, cleared for takeoff, roger; and yes, we copied Eastern. We've already notified our caterers." ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- One day the pilot of a Cherokee 180 was told by the tower to hold short of the active runway while a DC-8 landed. The DC-8 landed, rolled out, turned around, and taxied back past the Cherokee. Some quick-witted comedian in the DC-8 crew got on the radio and said, "What a cute little plane. Did you make it all by yourself?" The Cherokee pilot, not about to let the insult go by, came back with a real zinger: "I made it out of DC-8 parts. Another landing like yours and I'll have enough parts for another one." ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are renowned as a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign Speedbird 206. Speedbird 206: " Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of active runway." Ground: "Speedbird 206. Taxi to gate Alpha One-Seven." The BA 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop. Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?" Speedbird 206: "Stand by, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now." Ground round (with quite arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, have you not been to Frankfurt before?" Speedbird 206 (coolly): "Yes, twice in 1944, but it was dark, -- and I didn't land." ------------------------- ------------------------- ------------------------- ----- A Pan Am 727 flight, waiting for start clearance in Munich , overheard the following: Lufthansa (in German): "Ground, what is our start clearance time?" Ground (in English): "If you want an answer you must speak in English." Lufthansa (in English): "I am a German, flying a German airplane, in Germany. Why must I speak English?" Resolved Question: ARF radio control aircraft?

I would like to purchase an ARF radio control plane. Flying conditions where i live include a lot of breezy days so I need a stable platform. What kind of radio is recommended if I want to add a digital camera for future use? I do have some basic requirements. Electric motor Reasonable wingspan (36"-48") Tricycle landing gear ( dirt road landing strip ) Fairly easy to repair Stable flyer Medium speed Looks not important. Cargo bay (like to add a digital camera) Prefer a high wing with a low loading factor Basic aerobatics (nothing fancy) I live out in the middle of nowhere so all purchases will be Internet based. Based on the above what would you recommend? more

Resolved Question: Concerning Sound Waves?

I was thinking in an interesting situation in which I can't really find a solution. The situation is: Imagine a U.S.A.F. F-22 Raptor travelling at 1.0 Mach. The aircraft is travelling at the sound speed (consider it being 330 m/s) and its speed never goes bellow Mach 1.0. My question is: If the aircraft is travelling at the speed of sound (or higher if you like) the pilot is travelling faster than the mechanical vibrations (sound waves) around him, right? So he wouldn't for example hear the jet engine. Now, the pilot is constantly communicating with the control tower right? It is done by radio waves which travel at the speed of light, therefore no matter what speed the aircraft is at, the radio waves will always reach him and therefore the communication is possible. BUT once the radio waves reach the plane, it is electronically converted to sound waves (mechanical vibrations) that will come out of the pilot's "headphone", right? But how is it possible? How can the sound waves from the pilot's headphone reach the pilot's ears if he is travelling higher than the speed of sound? If anyone can give me an insight, I'd be very thankfull._______________________________ Surprisingly, while I was writting the question I found a possible solution, but I do not know if it is correct. What I got was: The plane is travelling at Mach 1.0, therefore the pilot is also travelling at Mach 1.0, so the pilot can't hear only what is around him OUTSIDE the plane (like the jet engine example). So it's like the plane was in rest, and the mechanical vibrations (sound) speed is not affected by the speed of the plane. The plane's speed does not affect the sound waves speed INSIDE the plane, but only OUTSIDE of it. Does that make sense?______________________ NOTE: Consider the speed being Mach 1.5+ Once Mach 1.0 is the speed of sound and therefore the sound would still reach. more

Resolved Question: Why haven't we heard about this stuff?

Did you know that DUE TO THE TROOPS: 47 countries have now reestablished their embassies in Iraq ? Did you know that the Iraqi government currently employs 1.2 million Iraqi people? Did you know that 3100 schools have been renovated, 364 schools are under rehabilitation, 263 new schools are now under construction, and 38 new schools have been completed in Iraq ? Did you know that Iraq's higher education structure now consists of 20 Universities, 46 Institutes or Colleges, and 4 research centers, all currently operating? Did you know - that Iraqi women are now allowed to attend schools? Did you know that 25 Iraqi students departed for the United State s in January 2005, for the re-established Fulbright program? Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is now operational? That they have five (5) - 100-foot patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels, and a naval infantry regiment. Did you know that Iraq's Air Force now consists of three operational squadrons, which includes 9 reconnaissance and 3 US C-130 transport aircraft (under Iraqi operational control) which operate day and night, and they'll soon add 16 UH-1 helicopters and 4 Bell Jet Rangers? Did you know that Iraq has a counter-terrorist unit and a Commando Battalion? Did you know that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000 fully trained and equipped police officers? Did you know that there are 5 Police Academies in Iraq , that produce over 3500 new officers each 8 weeks? Did you know there are now more than 1100 building projects going on in Iraq ? They include 364 school s, 67 public clinics, 15 hospitals, 83 railroad stations, 22 oil facilities, 93 water facilities and 69 electrical facilities. Did you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5 have received the series of polio vaccinations? Did you know that 4.3 million Iraqi children were enrolled in primary school by mid-October? Did you know that there are 1,192,000 cell phone subscribers in Iraq , and phone use has gone up 158% ? Did you know that Iraq has an independent media that consists of 75 radio stations, 180 newspapers and 10 television stations? Did you know that the Baghdad Stock Exchange opened in June of 2004? Did you know that 2 candidates in the Iraqi presidential election had a televised debate recently? OF COURSE WE DIDN'T KNOW! WHY DIDN'T WE KNOW? YOUR NEWS MEDIA REFUSES TO TELL THIS! Instead of reflecting our love for our country, we get photos of flag burnings, incidents at Abu Ghraib and people throwing things at the presidential motorcades. Tragically, the lack of accentuating the positive in Iraq serves three major purposes of the liberal news media: 1. It is intended to undermine the world's perception of the United States, thus minimizing consequent support; 2. It is intended to discourage American citizens and erode their support for the war. 3. It is intended to help the Democratic Party gain more power in the next elections. ---- All the above facts about Iraq are verifiable on the Department of Defense website: http://www.defenselink.mil/ ~ GOD BLESS AMERICA !
