Radio Station Guide Questions asked

Voting Question: Using XP MCE with antenna digital television dtv?

We have an XP MCE PC with tuners, all from around 2005. Our cable co has eliminated most of the channels we used to get with our analog cable (ie, old original) subscription, so we have been testing our analog TVs and also the MCE PC. It has 2 tuners in it, an ATI Theater 550Pro, and a Hauppauge WINTV PVR PCI II 26xxx. The tests are: 1. use the basic Radio Shack UHF/VHF antenna alone (this is because I can't be sure if the PC tuners are both analog, or not, or what. ) 2. use the antenna with a Magnavox converter box. The TVs work fine with the box and antenna. Proof of concept. Free TV looms. But the PC is acting strangely. Yesterday, with only the Hauppauge installed, using the box and antenna, it worked fine. Today it does not. And when both ATI and Hauppauge are installed, nothing works. (The Hauppauge is in PCI 2 and the ATI is in PCI 1. ) I only connect the box and antenna to one card at a time. By 'nothing' I mean I cannot get the box to display setup or anything else on the monitor. However, something is displaying the station and program supposedly in progress. (The mapped, not 6.1 or whatever.) Aside from these minor problems, I also wonder whether if we get a decent outdoor antenna, and hook it to the house's coax distribution system (which we currently use for Comcast ), we would need a converter box for every tuner, so to speak - that is, TV sets, and any PC tuner we want to operate independently. Also, how does MCE determine which of 2 tuners would be primary, for displaying live television. And what if only 1 is connected to either cable or a box&antenna? And just out of curiosity, is it smart enough to let one be connected to cable and the other to box&antenna? What would happen to Guide in that case? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you. more

Voting Question: Parents, would you hire me as a babysitter?

This is a flyer I am putting in my church. It's for late June - August 2010. Do you like it? (Below) My name is ____, I'm 14 year old girl looking for a babysitting job. I really like kids. I have lots of experience, well, with my 2 cousins who are active, hyper, and always look for new ways to have fun. I have been through a few emergencies while babysitting and they were handled just fine. I attended a safe-sitters class at my school and know First Aid and CPR in babies and kids. Creativity is one of my biggest traits, so if I babysat your kids we would be doing fun, creative things like crafts, projects, baking, writing a play and performing it, and more activities. We also listen to music on the radio. (A local kid station in my neighborhood) We would also spend a lot of time outdoors when it's hot out. Usually I will be babysitting for over a few hours, so I will intentionally clean up around the house without snooping or invading privacy. My fee is $5 an hour to babysit, Sunday - Saturday 12:00pm - 11:30pm ($1 for each additional hour before or after my guide lines) If you hire me as your babysitter, I will send a monthly calander to your house for dates of when I am available. (Most of the time.) If you would like to contact my references, contact me for their names and phone numbers. Thanks! -____ (my name) (My phone number is also on there)I will say "I clean" and I'll leave out snooping. But how else am I spoposse to get customers? They need to know! Resolved Question: Anyone like to read about some really funny true stories from UK?

A guide at Windsor Castle was struggling to make herself heard over the roar of low flying aircraft coming into land at nearby Heathrow. She was interrupted by a tourist who demanded what was wrong with the town planners, and why had they built the castle so close to the airport. The highlight of a cruise liner's visit to the Alaskan port of Valdez was a guided tour of the southern end of the great 800 mile pipeline through which, the guide informed them, some 1.3 million barrels of oil came daily from Prudoe Bay in the north. When he asked if there were any questions, someone solemnly enquired, `How do they get all those empty barrels back up to Prudoe Bay?' `Good home wanted for year-old Basset bitch. Understands every word I say, but ignores it.' Card in Portsmouth shop window. A group of tourists escorted around the British Houses of Parliament suddenly found themselves in the presence of the then Lord Chancellor, Lord Hailsham, resplendent in full wig and gown. Spying behind the group the figure of Neil Marten MP, the Lord Chancellor called out in greeting.`Neil' with dignified vigour. And all the tourists did. A tourist, on a driving holiday in Britain was reported to have been overcome by the Cotswolds but astonished at the number of villages with the same name. `After Chipping Sodbury,' he said, `there were three villages in a row called Loose Chippings.' An English classics scholar, trying to impress his tour party colleagues on holiday in Athens, offered to converse in Greek with the local ferry officers at the docks to enquire about departure times. The locals, after recovering from fits of laughter, then revealed to the rest of the group, in perfect English, the scholar's question: When do the galleys sail for the Isle of Aegina, O sailors?' In 1981, fifty San Francisco nudists arrived in Miami for a national convention to find their airline had lost all their luggage, including their clothes. The 1982 Association of British Travel Agents conference in Phoenix, Arizona, had to change its venue at the last moment when it discovered that its original hotel had been double booked. The story is told, apocryphal no doubt, of the DJ working on a small and remote radio station in Scotland midway through his programme late at night on 1 October 1977. News came to the station that Bing Crosby had died (the station producer happened to be on the phone to the States and picked the word up almost as it occurred). The DJ thought he could possibly be the first person in the UK to publicly announce the death, so he put on a long track and rushed off to record library to get an old recording to play. Upon returning, nervously excited by now, he put the first record onto the turntable without looking at it and broke into the record then playing with a sombre voice: 'I am deeply sorry to have to inform' you listeners that I have just received news from America of a great tragedy. The legendary Bing Crosby is dead. As a humble tribute, I would like to play one of his songs,' and as he switched over to his Crosby 'selection', the melody was beamed out, 'Heaven . . . I'm in Heaven...' BEWARE OF TRAINS GOING BOTH WAYS AT ONCE. - Notice at Durham level crossing more

Resolved Question: Connecting a FM antenna to PC for Radio?

Ok I have an HP Invent m8000 Desktop computer and it came with a radio antenna( http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m315/game_luver/DSCF0727.jpg ). The guide book says to just plug it into the back of the PC where it says FM ant ( http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m315/game_luver/DSCF0733.jpg ) . and it shows a picture of the antenna and the back of the PC. But when I look at the antenna in the diagram it looks like something else is connected to it. I'm not positive though. Can anyone specifically tell me how to connect it to the PC and actually have working radio stations? What would I need and where can I get it?Sorry but obviously I already know where to plug it in, I put a link to the picture of that. When I plug it in it doesn't work. I obviously need to connect something between the antenna and the PC, but I don't know what that is. more

Resolved Question: can anyone convert in passive voice?

Personal values Each and every one of us has many personal values. These values are important to us. They are the rules that we live by. There are three main values that guide me. Getting a good education is my most important value. For the last 20 to 30 years, my family has suffered through a war and lost almost everything. Now education has given me a chance to get some of these things back. I learned about the value of education from my grandfather. He always said that education can take me anywhere, and I believe he is right. Respect for the Hmong culture is my next most important value. I will never forget where I came from, what languages I speak, what food I eat, what what religion is, and so on. I learned this value from my grandfather. He always told me never to forget who I am, and one day it will help me get my people back together. Believing in love is my third most important value. I know that someone is and always will be there for me, in bad times or in good times. There will always be someone who cares a lot about me and knows how I feel, my cousins, and the radio station I listen to I will always value education, my culture, and the power of love. These three values may not be important to some other people, but they will guide me forever. They will help me do many food things in life, for myself and for many other people. more

Resolved Question: Do we now have *Government by Distraction*?

This story from the examiner.com, Atlanta is an example but my main question is about tactics and manipulation. Distractions. Think back on the battle over amnesty for illegals. Once we bacame distracted and moved on, they didn't give up the fight. They've simply 'attached' pieces of the original bill to other legislation. Sort of the 'death by a thousand cuts' approach. Cap n Trade, Universal Health Care, etc...these will probably be handled in the same 'back door' way once we drop our defenses and become distracted with something like, oh Idon't know....an investigation of CIA abuse. Just a thought. for example only..... In spite of the fact that there is no movement in Congress to re-implement the 'Fairness Doctrine' that would silence conservative talk radio, the Obama administration and Democrats on The Hill are working behind the scenes to accomplish that very goal without the Doctrine. With the appointment of Mark Loyd to the FCC as the nation's very first 'Chief Diversity Officer,' Obama hopes to accomplish the very things that the Fairness Doctrine would mandate. The main focus would be to force commercial radio stations to offer a 'diversity of opinion,' meaning of course that liberals would get equal time to promote their causes and concepts. Rather than get mired in the swampland of rules and regulations concerning how to do that, radio stations will simply cancel programs such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck. But this is not the only thing Loyd would do as Chief Diversity Officer. Loyd wants public broadcasting to be the dominant force in radio, overshadowing commercial stations. And, as we have cited before, he would do this by forcing commercial radio stations to pay a fee equal to their entire operating cost to the government in order to directly benefit NPR. However, more danger lurks just under the surface with regard to Loyd. Today, we discovered this: Lloyd draws on his experience lobbying the FCC during the Clinton administration, counseling would-be revolutionaries to follow the tactics used by other left-wing movements, such as the followers of Saul Alinsky and the people who ran the campaign to block Republican Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork. "We understood at the beginning, and were certainly reminded in the course of the campaign," wrote Lloyd, "that our work was not simply convincing policy makers of the logic or morality of our arguments. We understood that we were in a struggle for power against an opponent, the commercial broadcasters ...." In addition, Loyd makes it clear that the concepts pushed by extremist Saul Alinsky in his book, Rules for Radicals, would serve as the inspiration for his war on commercial broadcasting: "We looked to successful political campaigns and organizers as a guide, especially the civil rights movement, Saul Alinsky, and the campaign to prevent the Supreme Court nomination of the ultra-conservative jurist Robert Bork," wrote Lloyd. "From those sources we drew inspiration and guidance." In order to wrest control of broadcasting from private commercial interests to place it under government control, Loyd outlines 6 goals, which include vastly expanding NPR with money collected from commercial radio stations, expanding the FCC by setting up powerful regional hubs, and 'clear regulations over political commentary and advertising.' In other words, good-bye freedom of speech. But Loyd has an answer to critics who cry foul over his plan to muzzle First Amendment rights. He thinks that concern over the First Amendment is 'exaggerated': “It should be clear by now that my focus here is not freedom of speech or the press,” he said. “This freedom is all too often an exaggeration. At the very least, blind references to freedom of speech or the press serve as a distraction from the critical examination of other communications policies.” These examples make it clear that Obama intends to wage all-out war on conservative talk radio, free speech, free commerce through private radio broadcasting corporations, and new government regulations that control broadcast content. The First Amendment is simply an exaggerated concern that gets in the way. ********************************************************** So...Do we now have Government by distraction?@ David - http://www.examiner.com/x-3704-Columbia-Conservative-Examiner~y2009m8d26-Obamas-diversity-officer-at-FCC-to-use-Alinskys-confrontational-tacticsThanks CatThanks people. Resolved Question: What is your personal view of muslims?

Mine; "Religiously motivated terror attacks" What religion, other than islam, is there that is continually posing a threat to the public. We all know of the terrorist attacks. All those people lost. The taliban. al-Qaeda. Terrorist acts have included airline hijacking, kidnapping, assassination, suicide bombing, and mass murder. What sort of religion promotes death and suffering. Islam. That's what. The qu'ran has been proven to have been tampered with numerous times to change the book's entire meaning. Muhammed was a sick pervert. What religion will have honour killings, for a wrong relationship etc. "Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies" Quoted from the qu'ran. And another more interesting verse; O prophet! Strive hard against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be harsh against them. Their abode is hell, and an evil destination it is. [Qur'an 9:73] O you who believe! Take not the Jews and Christians for your friends and protectors: they are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guides not a people unjust. [Qur'an 5:51] And fight them until there’s no fitnah (polytheism) and religion is wholly for Allah This makes it very very clear to me that this religion will not stop fighting until they have gained control over this world, and have made it of only one culture and one religion; theirs. It's sad that not many can see this, that we must respect these people so that they kill no more of our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers... They've gained the respect they wanted, and they're still not happy, why? Because they want their religion to control this diverse, multi-cultural world. A Sunday Times survey taken in UK shortly after the 9/11 attack "revealed that 40% of British Muslims believe Osama bin Laden was right to attack the United States. About the same proportion think that British Muslims have a right to fight alongside the Taliban. A radio station serving London's Pakistani community conducted a poll which 98% of London Muslims under 45 said they would not fight for Britain, while 48% said they would fight for bin Laden. They want all the benefits of living in this country, yet they don't want to be british, they don't want to mix, they want to create terror. Oh also, how many asian support lines must there be now, imagine the uproar from these hypocrits if we had a "Non-asian helpline" If anybody rebels against this religion for having a brain, be aware, you may be killed for their honour, or have acid poured down your throat. http://www.3news.co.nz/News/InternationalNews/UK-honour-attack-Sulpheric-acid-poured-down-mans-throat/tabid/417/articleID/113817/cat/61/Default.aspxNo, ethan, wrong quess i'm afraid. I believe in a God of love. He belongs to no petty religion.Yeah maybe so, "K", maybe so, except catholic priests don't have organisations globally trying to inflict world terror. There we go again. Harping on about education when i have had one. Tell me, muslim terror supporters, where will you be when the anti-muslim rioting begins. Because believe me, it will. more

Voting Question: Who can help me?I wanna know?

I'm Italian and i wanna know if this text is right in english It was the 1st of April, the fool’s day, and everybody woke up about at 7:30 a.m. then we washed ourselves and after that we after that we did our packing straight before breakfast, because it was the last day of the trip and finally we came down to the dining-room to have breakfast. After that we got on the bus and we said goodbye for the last time to the hotel, which gave hospitality to us for 3 days. While we were on the bus, our history teacher, Laura Merlino, communicated to the class that the police sought us because someone broke a television at the hotel, but luckily that was only a teacher’s joke during the fool’s day. Before coming back to home, we visited other two important resorts of Trieste: -The Miramare Castle: -The Redipuglia -The first is a castle, which was built between 1856 and 1860 for want of Maximilian D’Asburgo, who used to come to Trieste, in fact the castle is situated on the gulf of Trieste near the sea, where he lived with his wife Charlotte of Belgium. Construction took place from 1856 to 1860 to a design by Carl Junker on the orders of Archduke Maximilian, as the tourist guide told us, the castle’s style is fully dedicated to naval style, in fact when you go into the castle, it seems to be into a real ship , moreover in this residence lived Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary too, to be more precise princess Sissy, who wasn’t a happy woman in the real life, but she was anorexic, she used to smoke and by that time woman couldn’t smoke so she wasn’t the Sissy as you watch in TV. Around the castle there’s an extensive cliff and seashore park of 22 hectares . -After we visited Miramare castle, we went to Redipuglia, the biggest military shrine in Italy. On every step there us the word “Presente”(“Present”) and on the side of it there’re 40.000 some 650.000 names which are the names of soldier, who were murdered during the First World War. Before going up the war memorial, we saw a documentary about the Great War and after that we visited a museum about it, where there’s the weapons used during it. When you go up the war memorial, you can sit down or you can visited the sanctuary, which is dedicated to the soldiers. After the military shrine , we got on the bus and we left Trieste and we went to Empoli. During the trip we had much fun, we played, slept, sang, we had and moreover we had a real own radio station, which was created by our history teacher, named “Radio Pellegrino which lead you in your way” and we did some mini-interview among the students about the journey to Trieste, and we had really fun there We came to Empoli more or less at 8:30 p.m. and it was raining ,everyone kept own packing and everybody told to their parents how the trip was amazing. more

Resolved Question: Overreacting? Would you be upset?

Okay so I will prelude this with I love my husband and one of the things that attracted me to him is his sense of humor. However, this week I feel he has crossed the line. I would like to get others opinions because he does not feel he has done anything unwise. Over the weekend we saw Zack and Miri make a porno. If you have not seen it there is a scene where a guy make Zack give him a dutch rudder (where another person guides your arm to masturbate. My husband thought this was hilarious. So much so that he tricked one of his buddies into doing it to him. Not long enough to actually masturbate but certainly long enough to be disturbing. I tried to laugh this off while I told him it was extremely inappropriate. Well today he called into a radio station and told them that we had sex all the time on our 5 yr old's bed. Of course this is not true, he was "just trying to be funny". Not only did he not tell the radio station it was not true but I received several phone calls asking me if I heard him on the radio. He has a very distinctive voice. So would you be upset if your spouse acting this way?Edit - Tinkerbell, a dutch rudder is when someone hold onto their privates and another person moves their arm to simulate masturbation. So no he didn't actually have another man touching his area but I still think it is not right. Thanks everyone. I am glad to know that most of you would have reacted the same way I did. A little insite to my husband - he was that one person in your group of high school friends that always did what ever it took to make people laugh. Is he crazy? Yes probably a little but normally it is harmless. It is touch to be married to "that guy" sometimes. Although sometimes it has it's rewards, today not being one of them. more

Resolved Question: 40 ways men fail in bed.. [[a little long, but very funny .. lol]]?

40 ways men fail in bed.. [[a little long, but very funny .. lol]]? Men - this is a free instruction guide for all of you who never get invite back after the first time and think it's because of your body odour; of course for some of you that could be true as well.....40 ways Men Fail in BED 1) NOT KISSING FIRST. Avoiding her lips and diving straight for the erogenous zones makes her feel like you're paying by the hour & trying to get your money's worth by cutting out non-essentials. A proper passionate kiss is the ultimate form of foreplay. 2) BLOWING TOO HARD IN HER EAR. Well, there's a difference between being erotic and blowing as if you're trying to extinguish the candles on your birthday cake! 3) NOT SHAVING. Guys often forget they have a porcupine strapped to their chins, which they rake repeatedly across their partner's face and thighs. So when she turns her head from side to side, it's not passion it's avoidance! 4) SQUEEZING HER BREAST. Most men act like a housewife testing melons for ripeness when they get their hands on a pair. Stroke, caress, and smooth them. 5) BITING HER NIPPLES. Why do men fasten onto a woman's nipples, then clamp down like they're trying to deflate her body via her breasts? Nipples are highly sensitive & they can't stand up to chewing. Lick and suck them gently. Flicking your tongue across them is good. Pretending they're a doggie toy isn't. 6) TWIDDLING HER NIPPLES. Stop doing that thing where you twiddle the nipples between finger and thumb like you're trying to find a radio station in a hilly area. Focus on the whole breasts, not just the exclamation points. 7) IGNORING THE OTHER PARTS OF HER BODY. A woman is not a highway with just three turnoffs: Breastville East and West, and the Midtown Tunnel. There are vast areas of her body, which you've ignored far too often as you go bombing straight into downtown Vagina. So start paying them some attention! 8) GETTING THE HAND TRAPPED. Poor manual dexterity in the underskirt region can result in tangled fingers and underpants. If you're going to be that aggressive, just ask her to take the damn things off. 9) LEAVING HER A LITTLE PRESENT. Condom disposal is the man's responsibility. You wore it, you store it. 10) ATTACKING THE CLITORIS. Direct pressure is very unpleasant, so gently rotate your fingers along side of the clitoris. 11) STOPPING FOR A BREAK. Women, unlike men, don't pick up where they left off. If you stop, they plummet back to square one very fast. If you can tell she's not there, keep going at all costs, numb jaw or not. 12) UNDRESSING HER AWKWARDLY. Women hate looking stupid, but stupid she will look when naked at the waist with a sweater stuck over her head. Unwrap her like an elegant present, not a kid's toy. 13) GIVING HER A WEDGIE DURING FOREPLAY. Stroking her gently through her panties can be very sexy. Pulling the material up between her thighs and yanking it back and forth is not. 14) BEING OBSESSED WITH THE VAGINA. Although most men can find the clitoris without maps, they still believe that the vagina is where it's all at. No sooner is your hand down there than you're trying to stuff stolen banknotes up a chimney, which is OK in principle, but if you're not careful, it can hurt - so don't get carried away. Better to pay more attention to her clitoris and the exterior of her vagina at first, then gently slip a finger inside her and see if she likes it. 15) MASSAGING TOO ROUGHLY. You're attempting to give her a sensual, relaxing massage to get her in the mood. Hands and fingertips are okay; elbows and knees are not. 16) UNDRESSING PREMATURELY. Don't force the issue by stripping before she's at least made some move toward getting your stuff off, even if it's just undoing a couple of buttons. 17) TAKING YOUR PANTS OFF FIRST. A man in socks and underpants is a at his worst. Lose the socks first. 18) GOING TOO FAST. When you get to the penis-in-vagina situation, the worst thing you can do is pump away like an industrial power tool she'll soon feel like an assembly-line worker made obsolete by your technology. Build up slowly, with clean, straight, regular thrusts. 19) GOING TOO HARD. If you bash your great triangular hip bones into herthigh or stomach, the pain is equal to two weeks of horseback ridingconcentrated into a few seconds. 20) COMING TOO SOON. Every man's fear (with reason). If you shoot before you see the whites of her eyes, make sure you have a backup plan to ensure her pleasure too. 21) NOT COMING SOON ENOUGH. You may think that humping for an hour without climaxing is the mark of a sexual weight-lifter , but to her it's more likely the mark of a numb vagina. At least buy some intriguing wall hangings so she has something to hold her interest while you're playing Marathon Man. 22) ASKING IF SHE HAS COME. You really ought to be able to tell. Most women make noisYeah it is funny. I couldn't fit all of it hough!... humph. But I saw someone else posted it 2 years ago. Thought I'd post it again for new people to laugh at! Lol. more

Resolved Question: What topics would you want to hear about on a Hypnosis Talk Show?

I am pitching a radio talk show idea to my local radio station. I want to hear some ideas of what topics you would like to hear about related to hypnosis. I am going to provide some choices, but please also feel free to submit your own ideas! 1) A talk show where we focus on a different issue each week and I guide the audience through a visualization for overcoming the issue ie: stop smoking, weight loss, creating wealth, improving relationships, etc. 2 A talk show that looks at the mind and various aspects of hypnosis and alternative healing. It would have guest speakers who are healers and they could talk about their different approaches to healing 3) A talk show called Secrets Revealed: the idea is that each person who phones in has a different issue that they want to find the root cause of. I use hypnosis to help them uncover intimate details about their issue 4) A 15 minute intro with some inspiring quotes, then random callers who can bring up any issue and have me hypnotize them on radio to assist with their issue 5) Any other great ideas? more

Resolved Question: Starting my own FM radio station...where do I begin?

To start a music-playing, probably-commercial FM radio station, what would I need? How much would it cost? Could you point me in the way of a comprehensive guide? (please don't send me themulcher. As helpful as they are, it costs $265 to get a drop of information out of them, and I'm a little strapped for cashizzel at the moment) How far could I expect to send my signal on a severely limited budget? How much would a decent signal set me back? Is it possible to homebrew a radio station? Would I have a big antenna on my roof, or is it absolutely necessary to lease a separate stretch of property to set up camp? How strict is the FCC in monitoring obscenity on air? Thanks in advance for any information you may give. ^_^ I'm only a high school student, so my own radio station is obviously quite unfeasible for me, but I'm very interested in the subject and would like to scrounge up some information for future endeavors. more

Resolved Question: Can't listen to FM Radio on Windows Media Player 11?

Im trying to listen to the FM Radio on my new laptop but i cant seem to find the FM radio option on my windows media player version 11. I remember there used to be a guide somewhat like what realplayer has with all the popular internet radio stations. I looked up the help section and it said this. 'If you have recently installed tuner hardware for FM radio or connected a tuner that supports FM radio, Windows Media Center might not have detected the added tuner yet. You must configure the tuner for use with Windows Media Center before FM radio will display by doing the following: 1. On the start screen, scroll to Tasks, click settings, click General, click Windows Media Center Setup, and then click Set Up TV Signal. 2. Proceed through set up to configure your tuner. The radio option should appear after you have configured your tuner.' I cant find the option to 'Set up tv signal'. Does that mean i dont have the required tuner hardware?? Please help!!! Thanks! more

(C) The US has very strict libel laws, & untruths about public officials usually result in fines. (D) European gov'ts have fewer restrictions on what people can say. (E) Because of federal grants & special funding, the media in the US do not have to worry much about profit. 2. (D) citizens get more detailed & specific information about programs & policies than they could get from the print media. (E) public officials must do something bold or sufficiently colorful to gain free access to the broadcast media. 3. When Gary Hart ran for the Democratic nomination in 1987, he told the press to go ahead & follow him, because "they would be bored." The resulting sexual scandal that arose is an example of the media's role as . . . (A) a gatekeeper who influences what subjects become national political issues & for how long. (B) a scorekeeper who keeps track of & helps make political reputations. (C) a reporter who covers important facts in an unbiased manner. (D) a referee who carefully balances coverage of all the candidates. (E) a watchdog who closely scrutinizes candidates' backgrounds & activities. 4. (A) because the president is one person & is views by the public as the center of gov't. (B) because the president has the ability to call news congerences, whereas members of Congress must act through their leaders (C) because the courts issue opinions that are difficult to understand, & it is difficult for the press to explain court decisions clearly (D) because congressional committee hearings are usually closed to the press & the public (E) the statement is inaccurate; Congress actually gets as much press coverage as the president does 8. Resolved Question: Missing digital tv information ?

My tv has built in freeview and has a programme guide. Everynow and again all the channel information disappears and all that is left is the radio stations. I can still view the channels themselves but only if i know what channel i want. When this has happened before theyve always come back. But this time it has been a while and theyve not. I cannot even scroll channels. eg. if im on channel 1 and push page up it will take me to one of the radio channels rather than channel 2. I have thought about rescanning but dont want to risk it only picking up the radio channels. has this ever happened to anyone else before and how do i fix it? more

Resolved Question: Should we continue to let rich people think for us or should we give it a try for ourselves ?

About 12 men own the entire media in the US --- papers TV and radio's and they have produced the opinions of the masses - both sides - for a few decades now They have managed to give most to all of us a label that comes complete with a set of fears about the other labels - tell us what religions we believe in and what ones are going to kill us all soon They have told us what nations we like and which ones we don't like and which ones need a good bombing --- Even though most of us have never been to that nation - a rich person who owns a TV station has taken us there on a guided tour while we sat in our living room and ended up agreeing with the rich person - that yes indeed that nation needs to be bombed We have worked at there factories now for about 200 yrs - and been very happy to make a dollar for our labour while they sell us back the crap we made for 10 --- The banks have been very happy to loan us the 9 dollars we needed to buy the crap we made for a dollar and then pay it off with interest that in the end makes the products cost closer to 25 dollars And we thank the very rich people for allowing us to do that Oh thank you rich person for enslaving me and my children on a fake debt for ever and ever ----- thank you thank you When something goes very wrong and they tell us this is an isolated incident -- we always believe them - no no the police don't just go around beating people up - this was an isolated incident --- Oh ok then no need to worry off to work in the factory to pay the bank so I can continue living indoors thanks to the rich person who made all that possible - ------------------------------------- Should we continue allowing less than 1% of the population to continue providing our opinions and thinking which includes a well managed opposition - so there appears to be a choice which you poor ignorant people who refuse to think for yourselves need at least the appearance of ? --- Or should we for once in our history -- start thinking for ourselves ? I know it sounds dangerous - I will wait here while you ask your rich person who own you what you think of that idea If your over 18 and or don't object to swearing watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbH__ItaTbsRich is defined by me as those who have the 90 % of the money and make up the less than 1% of the population If you are making only a few million a year then you are the upper class but not the ruling class If you make a few hundred thousand your a rich poor person - an upper middle class servant to the upper and ruling class The rest is just different degree's of poverty and control Smarten up --- 500,000 per year is just a very wealthy poor person who can be wiped away in an instant should they offend the ruling class or the upper class more

Resolved Question: what are your thoughts on this news article concerning magic johnson?

Johnson outrage over fake HIV accusation AAP - October 11, 2008, 8:57 am Former NBA star Magic Johnson was outraged Friday after two Minnesota radio talk show hosts accused him of faking that he had contracted HIV, which can lead to AIDS. Chris Baker and Langdon Perry of station KTLK questioned whether or not Hall of Fame hero Johnson, who led the Los Angeles Lakers' "Showtime" dynasty of the 1980s, was being truthful when he disclosed in 1991 that he had contracted HIV. "Magic faked AIDS," Perry said. "You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?" Baker replied. "I'm convinced that Magic faked AIDS," Perry said. "Yeah, me too," Baker said. "I'm not sure why," Perry added. "But I'm pretty sure he faked AIDS. Because he's the only cured AIDS guy ever." That exchange Wednesday prompted a response statement from Johnson, 49, on Friday that was reported by the Los Angeles Times. "I am extremely disappointed in KTLK in Minneapolis," Johnson said. "I am outraged that Chris Baker and Langdon Perry would minimise such a serious and deadly issue. "Millions are dying from HIV/AIDS and the fact that they would make jokes about my status is unbelievable. "Chris, Langdon and KTLK should use their power in a more positive light by encouraging people to get tested for this disease instead of making up such ridiculous lies." Johnson guided the Lakers to five titles before his 1991 retirement and made two comebacks before calling it quits for good in 1996. He was also a member of the 1992 US Olympic gold medal "Dream Team".  more

Resolved Question: someone plesae help me with this?

There has long been debate over the people's right to freedom of expression, and the word censorship is often at the center of this debate. The First Amendment to the Constitution declares that "Congress shall make no law. . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press," therein guaranteeing citizens of the United States the right to freely express themselves. Although not explicitly stated, this freedom of expression includes not only freedom of speech, but also freedom of artistic expression, whether spoken, sung, painted, or photographed. If the Constitution already guarantees these freedoms, then why all the fuss over censorship? The argument over censorship is two-fold: One, who is allowed to censor, and two, what material should or should not be censored. According to the First Amendment, the government cannot pass laws barring the freedom of expression. While the government isn't allowed to censor, it has passed laws that exclude some forms of expression. For example, libelous material is illegal, which means you cannot knowingly lie and purport your information to be true. Further, the government disallows any information that causes others to disrupt the peace. In either of the aforementioned cases, we do not apply the term censorship, as the information or material has been found to infringe on the rights of others. If the government passes legislation preventing the printing of information about foreign policy, though, it has denied people their right to choose which information they read. Further, it has prevented the people from making informed decisions about their government, who they elect based on this type of information. While the government cannot censor, the First Amendment does not apply to institutions, businesses, or people not funded by the government. Therefore, a radio station can choose not to play a song, just as a newspaper can choose not to print particular articles. While these businesses are within their legal rights, those decisions still deny the public access to that song or article. Like a blindfold over our eyes, censorship has occurred. The question one should ask now is "What characterizes information that a business or group would censor?" In most cases, censorship occurs when a group, business, or library thinks that an item contains objectionable material. On the surface, this seems not only acceptable, but also necessary. After all, young children might see violent images or hear graphic lyrics. The debate over censorship flares up because people cannot clearly define what constitutes violent or graphic material. If violent images cannot be clearly defined, then clear laws cannot be made to protect those who might be affected by them. Lawmakers and our government often agree that they have a responsibility to prohibit truly obscene materials. Even if a seventy-five percent majority feels that a particular CD contains obscene lyrics, can the government stop the other twenty-five percent of people from listening to it? If that happens, artists lose their First Amendment rights to free expression because they cannot produce the songs they want to sing. Suppose a majority feels the Venus de Milo is obscene? Students in our country would then be denied exposure to a work that the rest of the world studies. Do we label rock and roll or rap music with a "Parental Advisory" sticker? If so, operas like Madame Butterfly, which deal with sexual content, should receive the same treatment. As lawmakers ponder these same situations, we as citizens must ask ourselves what we give up if laws are passed regarding censoring certain materials. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights protect American citizens from the government abusing its power—they provide the structure for many of our freedoms. The First Amendment in particular protects our freedom to express ourselves, standing as a guide to lawmakers, politicians, and individuals. The founders of our country set up the government to ensure certain freedoms, and we must recognize that we give up these freedoms when we allow censorship to occur. Some might say that you cannot compare the lyrics of certain music to a great work of art, and they might be right. The First Amendment was created to stop censorship, however, not to stop ridiculous forms of expression. The fear in limiting any form of expression comes when we don't know where to draw the line: today graphic lyrics, tomorrow any artwork containing nudity. A variety of people find objectionable content in television, movies, artwork, books, and music. As citizens of this country, however, we have the freedom not only to express ourselves using these mediums, but also to choose which of the forms we want to read, hear, or observe. No one can force us to watch a television program or read a book. Instead, we must force ourselves to stay educated about issues that concern us and continue exercising our own freedoms of expression and choice. more

Resolved Question: What do you think of my Tokio Hotel fan fiction? [PLEASE COMMENT]?

The world, the universe was one big blur, everything was deformed and displaced. A crystal clear droplet smeared down Bills high cheek bones. An uncomfortable vibe shifted through the empty hotel room, Bill was alone, with no one, no one at all. The once noisy hotel room always had a mix of trashy rap music and thrash metal as Bill and Tom's radios competed against one another, but this was no more. The reality had not struck him yet, his brother, his best friend, was gone, gone forever. Bills tongue slowly escaped from his mouth and surfaced on the corner of his soft check, getting a taste of the bitterly salty tears. He choked back the tears as Georg and Gustav entered the room, he clutched the TV remote with a firm grip and switched it on. The news was on; it was on every channel, every station, and every show. Gustav browsed through all the main news channels, the vast majority read: <i>Tokio hotel member killed in aggressive fire</i> Bill grasped the soft silky pillow that lay next to him, and then pressed it against his chest, causing it to mould to him. His anime-type eyes instantly filled up with transparent liquid and trickled down to his pointy chin and departed towards the elegant material which covered the pillow below. Gustav slowly placed himself in front of the flat-screen television and glanced at the news anchor on screen whilst shook his head in disagreement. Georg sluggishly approached Bill and assembled himself next to his fellow band member. He rested his hand on Bills scrawny knee, Bill peered from behind the pillow and positioned it next to him; he then clenched Georg and firmly squeezed him as Bills eyeliner melted down the side of his face. The black mucky stream dripped onto Georg’s sweatshirt, leaving a puddle of depression. Gustav tried his very best to bury his emotions under his manly style but that did him no good. Gustav sniveled and wiped away his tears on his forearm. Bill took Georg’s hand and anchored him down the narrow hallway towards Tom’s room. Gustav picked himself up off the cold wooden floorboards and followed behind them. As they got within a stones throw, Tom’s expensive cologne lingered in the corridor, whilst their sight got darker and darker. Bill guided himself and the others to the dark closing. They were covering little area, yet it took so long to reach the bedroom. A second felt like a minute, a minute felt like an hour. Its still not finished, bu what do you think?  more

Resolved Question: Media "Poll" Question?

Does anyone really believe in the so called "Polls" that the news media is always talking about? Here's my issue: I believe that if they constantly harp on these polls they could in fact really determine the outcome. Most people are dumb enough to believe "Well if the guy or gal I'm votin for is losin in the polls, he ain't gonna become President, so whats the point of me voting." I think that these polls are biased and need to be stopped. I urge everyone to write you local TV news stations, radio stations, and local print media to stop this nonsense. The people be the "Real" poll the way its supposed to be. They need to stop guiding us in their direction. I never said I'm voting for Obama. I usually vote republican. But I will admit that this is the first time I will bring my judgement down to the wire. I could either way.I do agree that the ultimate decision is in the hands of the Electoral, but there vote is pretty much based on the popular vote of their district. If it wasn't, then what would be the point of voting at all. Regardless of who's leading in the poll, I really feel that they will disenfranchise certain voters. And for the whole Gore thing, he lost by the slimmest of margins. That would would not be an instance I look at for this question. more

Resolved Question: Is the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1800 Hybrid Video Recorder a good tuner card?

I have been thinking of buying a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1800 tuner card for my computer. Can anyone tell me if this is a good card? I will be using it to pick up cable channels (including digital channels) and to pick up FM radio stations. Does this card get good fm radio reception? Does it support an on screen program guide? Can it record clear qam channels? I have read reviews that say that the software that comes with this card isn't very good. Would all the features of this card work within windows vista home premium media center (including fm radio and qam channels.) If not, is there freeware tuner software that will work well with this card? Also how I do I know which qam (digital) cable channels in my area are encrypted and which are not. My cable provider is Comcast. My digital cable box doesn’t need a smart card (the credit card like device that plugs in a receiver to decrypt channels) nor does it have a place to put one in. Does this mean that all of the digital channels that I currently subscribe to are all unencrypted? I have tried searching the internet for a list of clear qam digital channels in my area without any luck. I would hate to get the tuner card not be able to pick up channels that I frequently watch because they are encrypted. more

Resolved Question: need help picking out a tv tuner card for my pc?

I am looking to buy a new pc tuner card for my comptuer. I don't want to spend alot of money. It needs to be able to pick up digital cable channels and have a digital program guide. I live in a rural area where there aren't alot of radio stations around so it has to to get good reception. It needs to be able to record from the radio as well. It needs to have an RF remote. The remoted doesn't have to be too fancy if i can perform basic tv functions and control my media programs i will be happy. If a tuner card does not come with a recording feature, are there freeware programs that will alow me to record from it?
