Show Radio Questions asked

Open Question: Confusion on the question by parentheses?

On that day, Valentina Tereshkova rode the space capsule Vostok VI into the earth's orbit. Her capsule passed close to the capsule of another Russian cosmonaut, Valery Bykovsky. (The russians call their space travelers cosmonatuts rather than astronauts.) Bykovsky's call name was "Haw." He had already been circling the earth for two days when Valya joined him. The two comsonauts kept each other company by radio while they were in orbit together. Why did the author put a sentence in parentheses? 1. To show how to pronounce a Russian name 2. To give an example of something 3. To show that the sentence did not belong with the rest of the paragraph 4. To explain the meaning of a word more

Open Question: Should Howard Stern be banned from "all" radio and TV?

I say yes!! Now what do you say and why? Let's be real people. No other nationality throughout the USA can get on anyone network or radio and talk the sh1t he talks about "every race" other than "Caucasian" and continues to get away with it. I promise if it was a Black, Asian, Mexican or any other race they would be banned from radio and TV for life. There is not one TV show or radio station that speaks the way Stern speaks and gets away with it. Everyone knows that. Yes we have BET and other things but they don't talk the "racist" shit that man talks and you know it. BET, Jet magazine or any other black networks or radio would be off the air if they do the same as Stern.Where it says " **** " that word is sh1t. Yahoo blocked it so I spelled it different.I know all about the 1st amendment but once again if it was another nationality "EVERYONE" knows they would be banned from the networks and radio if they talked about "Caucasians" as bad as he talks about other races. The truth is the truth which is "Let someone else try it and see how long they last?". more

Open Question: Is Being a radio presenter "cool?" or geeky?

Ok so i started presenting my own radio show last year, joined a local hospital radio and now I have my own show! how good is that :) But I used to think being a radio DJ was a really cool think to do, but pretty much everyone I know there describes themselves a being geeky. I need some opinions on whether being a radio presenter is a cool job to have or not :) Thank you! more

Open Question: How can people defend Glenn Beck after this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf33g9ep4YU A few things come to mind when I listen to this video. One... what an unbelievable prick Glenn Beck is. Two...what unbelievable pricks the people that defend this are. And three... how Glenn Beck fans would freak out if someone like Jon Stewart was caught saying this. The funny thing is... this isn't even Glenn Beck being CAUGHT... he willingly said this on his radio show. He prefaced this by saying that "no one in their right mind would say this", but he said it anyway. And to the people who will try and defend this... the only reason that you defend people like Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh is because these are guys who say things that you want to say and that you personally only have the courage to say behind the safety of your computers. I also realized something here... listening to this and seeing how people still defend Glenn Beck... this is how they feel too. I've realized that 9/11 was never about the people who died or the families that lost loved ones in the attacks... no... Glenn Beck and his fans have made me realize to them it was about how it made them feel personally watching on TV as the towers came down. It scared them and made them think they could be next. They don't care about the people who truly suffered and lost from 9/11. It was about protecting themselves. And as far as Hurricane Katrina goes these people could care less about it... all they saw was that it was just another major blow to the President for whom they supported through thick and thin. So Glenn Beck and the people that love to watch and listen to him... get the hell over yourselves. more

Open Question: Spider vein problem and I'm a teenager!!?

I asked my mom, who's a nurse about it and she said it didn't look like spider veins. This is kind of gross, but I remember when I threw up and my face looked blotchy on the cheeks. My mom said it was something to do with arteries because of it or something like that. That's what it looks like. I heard on a radio show once that wearing skinny jeans too much can be bad. I wear them all the time, so could that be what's causing it? But it's only on one hip. I hate how it looks and I'm not gonna want to be wearing a swimsuit or shorts in the summer looking like that. Is there any way to fix it? And what do you think it is, and what do you think caused it? I'm 16 and this has been there since at least a few weeks or more. Maybe even a few months. I also heard that if you cross your legs it can cause them, and I cross my legs all the time when I sit down, so could that be the problem? more

Resolved Question: Rush Limbaugh Would Go to Costa Rica for Medical Treatment ... is He Well Informed?

Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has thrown down the gauntlet. If the U.S. Congress passes health care reform, Limbaugh will leave the country to receive his medical treatment. Specifically, Limbaugh told a caller that he envisions traveling to Costa Rica should the government, through a federal program costing upwards of $1 trillion, expand health care coverage to approximately 30 million Americans who are currently uninsured. Ironically, Costa Rica offers universal heath care to all of its residents. more

Resolved Question: how can i finish this essay?

here is what i got so far: Section A: Describe Christian teaching about the way in which they should treat people who are less fortunate than themselves. Throughout humankind there has always been a divide between classes, the wealthier and the less fortunate. In both cases these two divides live their lives in very different ways. Many of the world’s religions have been taught throughout generations to treat everyone as they wish to be treated themselves, to care for all races, religions and the needy. In the time of Christ people read the Bible and are believed to help the poor who they knew or heard about. Today, however, people are more conscious of the needier across the whole world, through the use of television, newspapers, radio, the internet and many other useful sources. Therefore, throughout all religions and cultures people are more aware than ever about global crisis’ and they have realised that poverty and disasters happen more globally than they recognised before. The Old Testament teaches Christians that unless you help the poor with consideration, you would be punished. In the book of Exodus, there are clear guidelines about how to treat the poor with kindness and aid and avoid exploiting them. This is shown in the book of Leviticus 25:35-37 ‘If one of your countrymen becomes poor and is unstable to support himself among you, help him as you would an alien or temporary resident, so that he can continue to live among you. You must not lend him money at interest or sell him food at a profit.’ The profits had also made it very clear to the Jews that they should treat the poor with kindness and respect. This theme is continued into the New Testament when Jesus began his teachings. Jesus quoted from the Old Testament, ‘...To preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind. To release the oppressed. To proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’ This was quoted from Luke 4:18-19. more

Resolved Question: Rush Limbaugh wants to leave the country if health reform is passed!? Question: Where would he go?

Apparently on his radio show, Rush stated that he would leave the country if health reform is passed and go to Costa Rica. ------------------------------------ CALLER: If the health care bill passes, where would you go for health care yourself? And the second part of that is, what would happen to the doctors, do they have to participate in the federal program, or could they opt out of it? [...] LIMBAUGH: My guess in even in Canada and even in the UK, doctors have opted out. And once they’ve opted, they can’t see anybody Medicare, Medicaid, or what will become the exchanges. They have to have a clientele of private patients that will pay them a retainer and it’ll be a very small practice. I don’t know if that’s been outlawed in the Senate bill. I don’t know. I’ll just tell you this, if this passes and it’s five years from now and all that stuff gets implemented — I am leaving the country. I’ll go to Costa Rica. ------------------------------------------------------- See this link for a playback of the call. http://thinkprogress.org/2010/03/09/limbaugh-exile-health-care/ Unfortunately it looks like Costa Rica already has a similar system to the reform package that's being discussed: "Costa Rica’s hybrid government-private health care system provides comprehensive universal coverage to all residents — and even sells affordable policies to soon-to-be visitors like Limbaugh. The government owns several major public hospitals and operates small clinics in almost every community. Workers are required to contribute 15% of their salaries to health insurance and the unemployed “obtain public funding for all health services, including prescription drugs.” At least a third of all Costa Rican residents receive some care in the private sector and the government regularly purchases services from private providers. The system is not without its problems, but it boasts a higher ranking from the World Health Organization — Costa Rica is 36, United States 37 — and has higher life expectancy and lower infant mortality rates. Costa Rica also spends less per capita on health care than the United States and insures almost all of its residents." So my question to you is, where in the developed world could Rush flee to if he was indeed serious?Excellent job Shovel Ready. You have stated the obvious. Now let me clarify... WHERE in the developed world is he going to go to find health care that isnt "ruined" by a socialist approach? His chosen destination of Costa Rica already has the same approach he'd be fleeing from.Thank you Emporer has no clothes for reminding me that somehow creating insurance exchanges that allow people to purchase from private companies across state lines is a "government takeover" of health care... somehow. Could you direct me to a link that shows which bill you're talking about? The current legislation's main provision is the creation of insurance exchanges to allow freer competition between insurance agencies. more

Open Question: I need to know what this Urban Legend is...?

My english class is supposed to be doing an essay on an urban legend. I know of one but i cant remember what its called. There are a few different versions but the main one is: a couple are in a car at night driving down a quiet windy road. Their car suddenly breaks down so the guy goes out to find another car. Meanwhile, the lady turns on the radio and hears of the story of a psychopaths who has escaped from a nearby asylum. She of course locks her doors and windows and turns of the radio trying not to worry. Then, she hears a knocking on the top of the car. The police then show up and get her out the car. They tell her to not look back, but she does and she sees the psycho banging the top of her car with her husbands head. I know nobody else in my class will pick this, so i want to do it. Also, its very atmospheric, so its would be a good one to write about. If anyone can tell me a common name for it or the name for something similar, that would be great... :) more

Resolved Question: Should I Just Give Up?

A friend and I started our own online radio show back in January. Since we've started, every so often we have a disagreeance that turns into a verbal fight. On some of our disagreeances we were able to resolve and come up with a compromise. Lately, it seems like the exact opposite. A couple of weeks ago, she put together our whole topic outline without me and I didn't even get a chance to express my input. I politely confronted her by writing an email explaining how I felt. I didn't say anything harsh, I just simply asked that she not do it all without me. She must have taken it the wrong because we ended up in a verbal fight again. Well, I thought we had resolved it, but apparently not because she did it again for this week's show. I guess she doesn't get it or she doesn't care. To me it seems like she wants to control everything. Even when I do give my input, she's always got something to say about it like it's not good enough. I never say anything about her ideas. I feel like talking to her again won't go anywhere or we will end up in another arguement and I'm tired of it. I'm tired of the drama and I'm tired of just going with the flow and keeping the peace.. So, should I just give up and quit the radio show? more

Open Question: Are the BBC being Racist?

Open Question: What's with all the hate against Canada?

What's up America? I thought we were BFFs, but apparently not. You guys have been making up a lot of very insulting lies about us. Back in September there was the entire smear campaign against our healthcare system, then a couple years back there was another campaign on Fox where people like Ann Coulter were calling for the annexation of Canada. Then a couple weeks ago, Glenn Beck on his radio show started calling Canadians Nazis that are secretly practicing eugenics and apparently have some sort of secret agenda to spread the "evil" of progressivism across America. Like what the hell guys? Pat Buchanan even called us godless communists? We're suppose to be BFFs, and we have been BFFs since the beginning of the 20th century. We fought together in the trenches of France. Together we stormed the beaches of Normandy (in hindsight France has been a bit of an ungrateful prick). We're founders of NATO, we speak the same language, watch the same sports and share the same ideals of liberty. 70% of your oil comes from Canada, which I think is quite generous considering you're getting all of the oil Canada produces. So ya, what's with all the hate against Canada in the past few years? Best friends aren't suppose to talk sh*t about each other. more

Resolved Question: 1994 Ford f-150 XLT. Problems starting.?

1994 Ford f-150 XLT. This truck starts up evey time with no problem except... On two occasions (both after heavy rain) I have had difficulties starting the truck. It turned over but would not start. The first time after 5 minutes or so of continually turning the engine over, it started up. This most recent time, I approached the problem the same way. It would constantly turn over and every so often almost start up. After about 10 minutes and almost running down the battery, it started up. I was relieved, but noticed an faint electrical burning smell. I assumed I stressed the starter. I drove it 15 miles to work, parked it in the garage, worked for 7 hrs, returned to the truck, attempted to start it, and it only made that click, shut down sound. Kinda like if the battery connection was loose or corroded (both checked). Battery showed decent juice. I turned on the headlights and attempted to start it to see if they would dim, and they did not. I did notice the clock on the radio would turn off after the attempt, but would turn back on when the key was turned off and then back on. I got ideas as to what it would be (burned out starter), but would like to see if there is someone out there that has experinced this problems and/ or knows the fix. I would also like to know if the rain or humidity could cause the initial problem. Sorry so long, but I wanted to be complete. Thanks in advance. The battery seems to be fine. Headlights are strong, even when attempting to start. No dimming.Starter solenoid falure. I jumped the connections with a rubber- handled screwdriver and vroom, vroom. Thanks for the input. Gonna change out the solenoid and spray some items with a silicone spray. more
