Resolved Question: So I'm making a gift for my boyfriend for Valentines Day... What else can I add?!?

He's my best friend in the world and neither of us are really into Valentines Day but I love giving him things that show him how much I love him. For our anniversary I made him a scrapbook and even when he was sick, I baked him cookies and such. And he loves it all so much. So for v-day I decided to get a See's Candy box (the assorted chocolate kind, he HATES those cause he hates not knowning what its gonna be so itll be funny when he thinks its just that at first).. and in the inside lid i put a picture of us with an "I Love you" and then in the box I want to put some random little items. RIght now I have chocolate and sweet hearts and cookies.. but what else could I include?! Anything homemade or silly or cute. I really appreciate any ideas you guys have. Ok Im a scrapbook-er and i am overwhelmed! I have many, many, many, items such as embellishments, pretty scissors (the kind that cut wavy), stamps and ink, precision cutting knifes, not much paper (but that's about to change), many pix, ALOT of ribbon, adhesive dispensers, a personal trimmer, a corner rounder, AND MORE!!!!! Please help me what is an INEXPENSIVE way to organize all this? Im very much of a neat freak and I'm dumbfounded. Please do NOT say oh just throw it all in a plastic bin, I hate that idea. Resolved Question: How homemade is homemade?

I make "homemade" greeting cards that I send out for holidays and just regular correspondence. I use cardstock, stamps, papers, and scrapbook appliques. My friends and family have suggested I make a website and sell the cards or even approach a boutique about seeling a few. How homemade is homemade? I do not "make" any of the items I use to construct the cards like the paper, ink, and especially the stickers/scrapbook appliques I use. Often times, a large scrapbook piece - like a 3D christmas tree sticker - will be the main focus on the front of the card. Can I still sell these since the design and construction is my own? Or do the items I use to construct it have to be homemade as well? Thanks, Abby. more

Here is my predicament, I want Scrapbook stuff for Christmas and this is what I am going to ask for but I am picky about what I like when it comes to paper and stickers and embellishments. My mom has gotten me scrapbook stuff before and honestly she did horrible on what she bought. don't get me wrong I appreciated it but she bought me two mini scrap books when I didn't need a book let alone a mini one and she bought a lot of stuff off the sale rack I can tell. Which doesn't bother me because that's where I look. Anyways, what is a tool or something that you use a lot that would be under $30, or any other suggestions on what you use a lot. I though about telling her to get me a bunch of different lettering but she doesn't know what I like, so I don't want to risk it. more

Okay, so I found a venue I like that costs $6,500 for 75 guests. That is for the ceremony, reception and dinner, centerpieces, cakes and cutting fees, security (which I don't feel comfortable not having for personal reasons), DJ, etc. I have to buy the following things. How much should I look to spend on average? Officiant/Minister Calla Lily bouquets, corsages, boutonniere's (real or silk) Paper for invitations, RSVP cards, and place cards (printing is free) Red/White wine (price per bottle?) What percent of a budget should be spent on the reception, and when I say reception what all is included in that? I mean, I am getting a lot included in that package. My dress is $680 (that is everything but shoes), my hair/nails/makeup should be $160 altogether, I'm doing candy in tulle bags for favors for $40ish, we're spending $400 on rings, probably $35 dollars on the knife and server, and flutes, and I'm creating a wishing tree for roughly $30 in lieu of a guest book because I am going to do a wedding scrapbook with the pictures... and have the tags next to the guests in the album etc. I got some rude answers yesterday saying I was being unrealistc. Now, our budget is $11,500 (I even found a photographer that is only $700 for six hours). That includes the honeymoon, which I don't know exactly when or where we are going, we just want to get away haha. The reception cost ($6,5) is tax AND service included... it is linens, napkins, dishes, dinner, decoration, setup, ceremony, cake, and several extras that are included in the package. Is $6,500 on all of that too much for my budget??I think if I move the date back to November, on a Sunday, they might take off more than just $500. I'm going to do as much as possible myself. I just can't pass up such a nice place with so much included! The fruit tree and chocolate fountain were thrown in dirt cheap at $150. The ceremony is included. She is decorating outside for free. There is a pool table and two TVs for kids and a slideshow!!The photographer and DJ are friends! So I can trust them.I'm also in a heavily populated area. more

Voting Question: birthday gift ideas for my husband?

I've been lookin up ideas online and found nothing yet. He has hundreds of pictures of us together and our little girl. And we have major scrapbooks. He doesn't drink or smoke. He's had enough love coupons and such in that area. I don't want to go expensive and maybe something I can make for him. He loves tools but he has enough and very picky on brands of tools and tool boxes. He and I both play xbox360, but we have every game that i can think of that he would enjoy. He is also picky. I cook wonderful meals all the time, including desserts. He has a watch, he has a razor with plenty of blades. He doesnt wear colone. He doesn't need any bathroom items because he has everything he needs and wants. He has more clothes then I do and doesn't wear half of them and picky as to what he wears and they are not name brand, just comfortable. We have hundreds of movies and I recently let him buy a larger tv.We also have almost 200 CD's and he isn't the massage type. Except his right shoulder which he had injured bullriding a few years back. And he doesn't often like to relax. I like the toy idea, but i tried that once and it didn't turn out so well. He can also be picky with toys. Maybe some silly string to chase each other around the house with or a game. Any other good ideas? Anything I can make. I can sew and do other artsy things. more

As I turn off my computer, I finally notice what time it is. HOLY SHIT, I think to myself, its 1am. That was the longest paper I have ever written for school. Well I guess that’s what I get when we read Shakespeare in 10th grade. I don’t really like Shakespeare but we had to read it and write a journal response on the WHOLE book. I get my pajamas and sneak out of my room to the bathroom. My mom is in her room already asleep. I tried to be as quite as a could, so I wouldn’t wake her up, but I guess the noise of the water in the shower woke her up. I just grabbed the soap as she walks in. “Mackenzie, why are you up at 1o’clock in the morning? You need to get to sleep because there is school tomorrow.” Ugh here is one of the lectures she gives me, only because she is a doctor. “Um, well mom, when you’re in 10th grade and have to read Shakespeare then do a journal response on a book you barely understand. You have to stay up late to get it done…..It’s due tomorrow!” “You should have started it a long time ago, so you can get it done.” “Mom it was assigned on Friday. I would have got it done but you made me help you pack the useless items.” I say very annoyed. “Kenz, you never told me you had work to do.” “YES, I did tell you. You just don’t listen to me. You never have.” I state as I get out of the shower. I wrap the towel around me and take all my clothes. She blocks the door. I just plow right through her, go straight to my room. I can hear her feet padding on the carpet behind me. I walk into my room and lock the door. A few minutes later she knocks in my door. I pretend that I don’t hear her and just don’t answer. A few minutes later she knocks. “Kenz are you still awake?” After about five minutes of talking she decides to go to her room. I have been up so late now that I can’t even fall asleep. I turn on the radio which will hopefully help me fall asleep. **************************************************** “Mackenzie get your butt up and out of bed now!!!” At first I don’t reply, I am still sleeping. “Mackenzie get up now! You need to be done with everything before I leave which is in 10 minutes.” “Ok. I am up now.” “Mackenzie get up now!!!” “Mom, what part of I’m up don’t you understand!” She never listens to me but yet she can listen to everyone else. She is always to involved with work to actually listen to me and talk to me about the things that are happening in my life. She always used to be there to talk to…before she got her ‘dream job’. As I get out of bed, I realize it is 7:30. I have to go get ready and be at school at 7:50. As I look through my walk-in closet, I found this really old scrapbook. I start looking through it. Then I hear my mom coming, the book gets shoved back into the closet. I quickly grab my clothes and throw them on. Right then mom walks into the room to see if I have finished getting dressed, which I have. “Mackenzie, can you just go have breakfast and brush your teeth so I can leave, please.” She asks in a calm voice, which is quite a surprise. Since see kept me up for longer then needed, I’ll just be mean to her. “Mom, don’t you see that I had to get dressed? You don’t like to go and eat while I am in my jammies. So instead of getting yelled at…again I decided to get dressed. But I guess either way, I still get in trouble.” “Mackenzie don’t even start with me, just because you are a teenager doesn’t mean you can be a bitch to everyone!” Once she says that I grab the stuff I need for school and walk right out of my room well basically run into the bathroom. After I am in slam the door closed, and lock it. I just stand there for a moment. Right then here is mom right at the door. First her knock is just a tap on the door. After I don’t answer to her knock, it just becomes louder and louder. “Just leave me alone!” I say. “When I want my space, I don’t get it. Then when I don’t want my own space and I want to hang out with you, your not even here! So just go to your ‘dream job’ because it’s obviously better then being here with your own daughter!!” “Kenz, you are my life, which is the reason why I come home from my job at night. If you weren’t then I would still be at work.” As she is saying this, I grab my toothbrush out of the cup, turn on the water, get it toothbrush wet, water goes off. I get the tooth paste from the medication cabinet above the sink, and put some on the toothbrush and back in the cabinet it goes. “There are a lot of other people who need me at work, and yet.” Blah, blah, blah is all I hear. Then I remember that we have a radio in the bathroom. I walk over to the radio and turn it on. I can still hear her, so I turn it up just enough so I don’t hear her. Ahhh, that is so much better. As I go back to the sink, she starts knock once again. This time it doesn’t sound very much like knock, it sounds like she is punching the door. Resolved Question: What should I do with an old "CADBURY'S COCOA" like matchbox?

I found this old box about 5-6 years ago when I was re-wiring an old Victorian house under the floor boards. Its not in the best condition but it still has the picture that the children used to cut out for scrap books very clear. Here is a bit of information I found on the Cadbury's website. Cadbury's Chocolate Box A chocolate for eating had been produced at the Cadbury factory since 1849 but it was not, by today's standards, a very palatable product. With the availability of cocoa butter a new chocolate recipe produced chocolate similar to that which we enjoy today. Refined plain chocolate was made for moulding into blocks or making bars and chocolate creams that with chocolate-covered fruit-flavoured centres. Cadbury's "fancy chocolates"- or assortments as they are now called - were sold in decorated boxes, with small pictures that children could cut out to stick into scrapbooks. Richard Cadbury applied his considerable artistic talents to introduce more ambitious and attractive box designs from his own paintings, using his own children as models or depicting flowers and scenes from his travels. They were the first British-made fancy chocolate boxes and were very popular. Some of his original boxes still exist. Elaborate chocolate boxes were much prized as special gifts by the late Victorians as they could later be used as trinket or button boxes. Chocolate box designs ranged from superb velvet covered caskets with bevelled mirrors and silk lined jewel boxes to pretty boxes with pictures on the lid. The popularity of these splendid Cadbury boxes continued until their disappearance during the Second World War. Victorian and Edwardian chocolate boxes are now collector's items. more

Resolved Question: Anyone read the book What I Saw and How I Lied By Judy Blundell?

Im doing a project for school. Compile a scrapbook belonging to one of the major characters. Pretending you are that character, put together a collection of special memories and mementoes related to the book. Your scrapbook must be minimum of ten pages long (not including the cover) with information on the front and back of each page. Be true to that character, and find a way to relate the items to other characters. For each item, photo, note, program, etc. that you include, write a few sentences about the item as if the character is writing in a diary about where this item is from and what it means that’s special. Use things that can be put on paper (no large items that require boxes, bags, etc.) No im not asking for someone to do this for me, Ive started reading the book, but im needing help picking out parts of the book to include in my scrapbook! Id hate to have to re-read it all. anyone? more

Voting Question: Is this an illegal derivative of artwork?

I don't exactly make original art, in the sense that I'm no painter by any means. What I like to do is use scrapbook paper and fabrics as my backgrounds and then print onto those backgrounds with text, quotes, etc. I think in this case, the rule of first sale makes it okay to sell these items. What I'm not sure of is whether I am allowed to digitally scan my "artwork" for use as computer wallpaper, screensavers, etc. I'm confused because I know that companies make items like fabric and paper so that they can be used creatively, but the digital scanning has me concerned. Any ideas? more

My wedding is August 15th and my mom wants a good list of things that my fiance and I want/need. We aren't exactly sure what to ask for and we don't want to be rude. We are 18 and have a daughter due any day now. We have everything we need for the baby. Our apartment isn't big, but we've furnished it well so we don't really need any furniture. We've got fairly cheap dishware that can break and it won't be a big deal (since we'll have a little one around now) I really don't know what to ask for. Our list consists of a few kitchen appliances and scrapbook/photo craft items (because I like to do crafts and stuff with photos and decorate our house with family pictures) What else would you suggest? more

Right now, what I'm going to do is have A garage sale, me and my best friend are holding a drink stand in my park, and I'm going to make items like these and sell; Bookmarks: $1, T-shirts(with a name or saying on it) $5, Scrapbooks: $30, cards: $2.50, dog treats; $5.50 per pound, and also I'm going to hold car washes, pull weeds for people, do yard work for people, and a lot of other work! Hello, I'm 36 weeks pregnant and have a deep desire to nest! I've made a list of to do's which I've already begun to work on. Here is my list. CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY MORE NEW IDEAS TO ADD TO IT?!?!?! I would like to stay busy. 1. All of Lanies Laundry (clothes, hats, bibs, burp cloths, blankets, crib set, etc...all adding up to about 20 loads of laundry!!!) 2. List of phone numbers - give to Hailey 3. Set up car seat in mom's car for ride home from hospital 4. Put travel set together 5. Organize Lanie's essentials (toiletries, diapers changing things, medicines, toys, etc) 6. De-tag all new items 7. double check room for safety issues 8. clean my desk and go through all my papers 9. Finish Lanie's prenatal scrapbook 10. Pick up baby stuff from Seth's parents house 11. Buy bouncer, swing, baby gym, etc if can't find elsewhere (talk to jessica) 12. Complete maternity record book 13. Complete thank you notes!!! 14. Go through necesities of room (surely to god i don't need all this stuff in here...she'll probably break half of it if it stays! lol) 15. Resolved Question: A question for stay at home Mom's... How do you make a little extra money to afford to stay home?

I just had a baby and I can't even imagine going back to work and leaving him with a daycare provider. I am one of those Mom's who doesn't think anyone else can take care of my baby the way he should be. I have about 5 weeks until I have to be back to work and I am dreading that day. So, I am trying to brainstorm some ways that I can stay home with him. ANY IDEAS? I would need to make about $200 a week or more if possible. One thing I thought of was taking on another child to babysit. I was thinking maybe like a 2 or 3 year old would be good, but I don't know how to find someone in my area that is looking for a babysitter. I have had several people suggest making a sign, but I don't know what I would write on that sign. I also sell PartyLite on the side, and could probably boost that business a little if I promoted it some more. As well as my online business at Jeneane.etsy.com where I sell homemade craft items like scrapbooks, cards, and more. Right now my shop is not doing so well because I was on bed rest and having pregnancy issues.
