Resolved Question: How do I start my own small business?

What things do I need to do-ie, ABN? Get an accountant? Register a small Business? How do I do these things, or where can I find out more? I only want a small business-kind of like a party plan-a hands on jewellery class kind of along the same lines as scrapbooking parties or Mary Kay. Not sure it will work, but I want to investigate the possibility anyway. I do not have a degree in business, only a teaching degree. more

Resolved Question: What's a cute name for a craft works business.?

So, I'm crafty. I make things. Lots and lots of things. I've been toying around with the idea of starting a business for some time now. So now, what I need help with is this: what do I call myself? What do I name my little business? Some of my ideas so far have been: Stylin' Stitches and Obvious Designs. I've never been really good with coming up with names for things, so I would love some creative ideas. I'm looking for something witty or clever and possibly something that involves the word "obvious" or "obviously." These are the types of things I do: -Floral arrangements -Wreaths -Special Event scrapbooking -Crocheted scarves, baby blankets, hats, etc. -Monogrammed items As soon as I get a name I can look into getting business cards made and really getting this thing off the ground. Thanks! more

Voting Question: Have you ever heard of this kind of business.. would it be a good business?

** pre-emptive apolgoy for run-on sentences/type-o's/babbling/etc ** has anyone ever heard of or seen either a store, or an online company that offers the service of making scrapbooks for customers. I know scrapbooking was quite the buzz word a few years back and I saw a few scrapbooking stores around town. .but not ones that offered this type of service. I had 100's of pictures that my mom had taken of the family over the years that I had come into possesion of .. I wanted to surpirse her with one of those fancy scrapbooks but simply didn't have the time to make it as great as I wanted to and I couldn't find a place that offered this service. I guess my question is, (1) does anyone know of anyone that does this service , and (2) do you think it would make a good business?? People would have to bring in/send in their photos and I would make them these great scrapbooks for a charge. I don't know. .just been thinking about it and people have a lot stupider business plans than that! lol.. just tell me what ya'll think! Thanks =) more

Voting Question: starting a small business. need ideas?

Alright so, i have already decided on starting my own business. I want something that i can start out small and then expand when it starts to grow. All i need is an idea of what kind of business to start? any suggestions, ideas, help? It would be a offline business, but i would, of course, have a website also. Things i like/am passionate about:: Horses, Hiking/Camping, Baking, Scrapbooking... but i am the kind of person that, if i do something a few times, i start to like it. So anything would really work... It's always been a dream of mine to run my own business. the area where i will be opening my own business is in Jacksonville MD, which is very populated with equestrian riders. I was thinking about maybe opening a business that relates to horses (my biggest passion in life). But, there is already a small tack shop there... However... I've been in their tack shop, and i really wasnt too thrilled about it. They had a small selection, and there was NOTHING western at all. Don't get me wrong, its mostly english riders around there, but there are still some western riders like myself. Is it ok to have 2 tack shops in the same general area? more

Resolved Question: Just found out after 10 years of working for my company..they are planning on closing?

I feel as if the security blanket that's been wrapped around me..is no longer there. Luckily my boss is great. He's offering to keep paying me until I find a new job. This is not happening for several months so hopefully I will find a new job before this one is gone. I just don't know where to turn! I have been so comfortable here! My question is this. Do I try to find a new job? or take this time to finally try and start my scrapbooking business? In today's economy I'm so scared! I really want to be able to do what makes me happy rather then sitting at a desk watching the time tick by. Life is to short to be unhappy at work. I don't know what to do !! Please help..any advice will be great!! Thanks more

Resolved Question: What is my culture? (Not race, ethnicity: more like a group)?

For a graduate course, I have to write a little about my culture. I'm not entirely sure what this means. What the instructor said was that our culture would not necessarily be race/ethnicity, but it would be something like "I identify with white college girls, so that is my culture". For example, one man was Caucasian, but he identified with the Asian culture because all his friends were Asian and he enjoyed their traditions/rituals, etc. Another student identified with the hip-hop culture. He was African American and liked rap music, etc. Some were 'white, college girls' because they identified primarily with other white college girls. I just can't figure out which culture I might be a part of. She also said that it didn't have to have a title, such as "hip hop culture". I was hoping I could tell a little about myself and someone could help me identify my culture? I'm in my early twenties, Caucasian, going to a University, education major. I come from a well-off family (not rich, but not poor) who are successful. They didn't finish college, but have their own successful businesses. I enjoy scrapbooking and other creative arts. I love learning new things, doing projects and homework, and going to school. My other siblings will go to college, too. Everyone I know who is my age is going to college and has a plan for their life. My friends are all similar to me (small town, well-off family, future plans, college) Please help me identify with a culture =( more

Resolved Question: Is Freecreditreport.com going to go out of business.......?

Is Freecreditreport.com going to go out of business since obviously credit doesn't matter anymore in America?? Last time I looked my credit rating is somewhere in the mid 700's. My neighbors were 4 months behind on their mortgage. They moved out of their house and flat out abandoned it. I pay all my bills on time every month and my interest rate is 4.9% which for my bank and area is the lowest possible rate. My neighbor has a credit rating so bad I would imagine is doesn't even show up. And I realized they moved back in over the weekend. They came and talked to me. The bank in anticipation of the bailout have let them move back in to their home. They knocked off 30% of their initial loan amount and have a special interest rate of 3.5% she said. I didnt' believe her and she actually let me see the papers and she wasn't lieing. The lady has a sales and marketing degree and she has always worked for some scrapbooking company so she is flat out lazy she didn't lose her job. Why did I spend my whole life paying off credit cards every month and paying my mortgage on time when I could just have been lazy and gotten this. Does anyone else have a situation like this? more

Resolved Question: My husband and Valentine's Day?

I'm asking this again because I asked this morning, and all I got was answers from people being mean! Anyway Valentine's Day is coming up. I have my present all planned for my husband. I got him tickets to his favorite sporting event, and I arranged for him to meet his favorite sports player before the game, and to tour the locker room with him! However my husband has been a total jerk when it comes to Valentine's Day for me! Anyway he suggested going to a ski lodge for a night, which I thought was a GREAT idea. The reason Valentine's Day is so important to me, is because he has been away on business for most of the first year of our marriage. It's the only holiday he's been home for, and he'll have to leave shortly after! I just want to make V Day a really good memory for both of us to remember while we're apart again, you know? People earlier were acting like I am a money grubbing gift grabbing wife and I'm NOT, I just want him to put some effort into it and show some thought. But the ski lodge idea was great, and I told him I LOVED it! Then out of nowhere he drops the idea, and I was totally disappointed. He told me it was "too much money" but I handle the money, and I know that it's not. We have 0 money problems, and we are well off (again, NOT about the money, I'm just saying, we can definitely afford it). So then he starts looking at jewelery for me, which I guess was sweet, but personally I like to pick my own jewelry because I feel really bad if my husband picks something and it's not my style and I just don't want him to waste his money. Guys are not always good at picking out jewelry. But what really bugged me was that it was MORE expensive than spending the night at the ski lodge. WTF, he just said that was too expensive?! So I tried to get at the bottom of why he didn't want to go to the ski lodge anymore, and he just won't tell me. It's a jerk move to say you're going to do something with your wife then just say no out of nowhere. So then he started looking around at other gifts, and he SERIOUSLY suggested a LITTER BOX?! The other stuff he suggested was all ripped from a generic Amazon "suggested Valentine's Day gift list." That is not romantic or sentimental at all. I am just the kind of person that I think it's the thought that counts, and he's not putting any thought into this at all. If he spent like $20, got a scrapbook, and scrapbooked with me, or even just watched a movie with me while I did it, made a card, or something that showed he was THINKING OF ME, I would be happy. But he's not doing any of that. He's suggesting jewelry I don't want, a litter box, gifts that don't mean anything, etc. I'd be happy if he planned a nice date out like to where we had our first date, or breakfast in bed, or something. He's all excited about his present but he couldn't care less about mine, and I'm at the point where I don't even want to give him his gift anymore. He won't do the 1 idea of his that I really liked. I suggested scrapbooking, making a card, or planning a nice date like I said here, and he just blows it off. I want to know what gives here, and I do NOT want to be accused of being selfish or high maintenance or greedy. Like I said I don't care WHAT the gift or outing is just that is has some SENTIMENT behind it. I support him while he's away doing his business and I work hard back at home to keep everything together with the house and I work as well, and I think that I do deserve for him to show that he's thought of me and I don't think it's too much to ask or it's high maintenance. It's frustrating to me because I KNOW he is trying to come up with SOMETHING for Valentine's Day. He is TRYING. But he does NOT seem to get that it's the thought that counts and that it was means the most, and he does NOT like the things that I suggest, such as agreeing with the ski lodge for a night, a scrapbook, or something like that. :( No jerks answering this time, please.I have suggested stuff like breakfast in bed, a bubble bath together, going to where we had our first date... he won't!!! I've suggested personal and sentimental things... no go!!! He won't do the one idea he suggested that I liked!!! I'm not going to plan my own date or buy my own gift! There is NO MEANING in that, and I would rather have NOTHING than that.I HAVE talked to him... I communicated with him a lot... I told him that first of all I'm really hurt that he suggested something then refused to follow through with it... I've suggested a number of really simple things he could do... like a scrapbook or cooking dinner or something like that... and he just DOES NOT LISTEN! Why are men like that?!?!You guys are not even understanding... he is asking me what to get or to do... and I tell him but then he WON'T DO IT. So why does he even ask? It's not like I'm bugging him by shooting down all of his ideas. He asks me for ideas, I give them, and he refuses. WTF is that about? Why ask if you're not going to take any input? more

Resolved Question: I'm attempting to start a small scrapbooking business from my home and I'm looking for some feedback. ?

I have found that many people enjoy having scrapbooks of their weddings, babies, vacations, or anything else that contains fond memories for them. However, many individuals do not have the time or the money to begin this expensive and time consuming activity. So, I've been thinking of beginning a small business in which I would make scrapbooks for these individuals. Please answer of each question below to help me get started! Thank you for your help. 1. What type of scrapbook would you be interested in having made? None, Digital, Traditional or both Digital and Traditional? 2. How much would you pay for a custom-made 8x8 digital album? 12x12 digital album? 8x8 traditional album? 12x12 traditional album? (Assume all books have 20 2 page spreads) 3. How quickly would you like to receive your completed album? 4. Would you prefer to have the journaling (stories to go along with the pictures) done for you or to have a spot left where you could journal yourself? 5. Would you prefer the convenience of having me take care of copying original photos and printing digital photos for you or to print/copy your photos yourself? 6. Would you be willing to meet for a 20-30 minute consultation so that I can understand your style preference and gain stories for journalling or would you rather do everything online? 7. Resolved Question: Where's a good website or other place people visit to see which businesses NOT to be customers of?

For example, if I were to want to let other people know how RUDE the owner of Sharpe Reception Center in Provo, Utah is, so that she'd learn not to be bad to potential customers when they have questions, where would be a good place to go? But it doesn't stop there, at reception centers. We've all had a very negative experience from one kind of business or another, haven't we? How about some stores? I can't think of another specific example right now, but I bet you know the kind of feeling you get when someone--especially the business OWNER or someone else at or near the top--is rude to you. Right? You might think, "WHOW, that is NOT the way you should treat people who might be--or WORSE, already WERE and might be again--your customers! That's not good for business! If I can spread that around, then maybe they'll go OUT of business and learn their lesson!" But on the other hand, maybe you'll run into a place like the world's first actual scrapbooking store (in Spanish Fork, Utah)--Keeping Memories Alive--and think something like, "Whow, those people are so NICE! I'd like to spread it around how nice they are! I hope they keep doing very good business!" And then you'll want to put them on a site or other shopping comparison place for good reasons! So where is just such a site like that? And don't stop there, though. Where are other places that a lot of people look at--not just websites--for that kind of comparison information? Will you come back and see my responses to your answers, please? Thanks.Okay, thanks, David Gardner 32, you told me about some good websites. Good, I'll try them. Now does anyone know about some non-web places that people like to use, or do most of us just go to websites anymore these days? MikeHi, Mavis the Maven, Yeah, those sound like some good places to check out, too. Well, neither of ya posted any non-web places like this that people use, so I guess we just don't use non-web places like this anymore (or maybe we never did us any?)... True, or...? Well, anyway, thanks for those, guys. They're both so good that I don't know which one I want to pick as best. I think I'll just let it go to voting by you. What do you think about that? MikeOh, one more thing, Mavis: Right now I'm looking for good places for me to write reviews of places more than because I want to read others (although those would be the same places--but I just mean that when I wrote this question, it was because I wanted to share information about my bad and good experiences with businesses because right now I had a specific complaint). Of course these will also be good for those times in the future when I may want to read complaints and compliments more than write one. Mike more

Voting Question: Is this a smart business idea?

I love to scrapbook! And my student loans are coming due soon and I am thinking of a way to make a little money while still having fun on the side. I would like to start a scrapbooking business on the side. I would have people give me their photos that they would like scrapbooked and charge a fee for creating either a page for them or their whole scrapbook. The fee would depend on how fancy they would like the page done. I would charge $5-$15 a page and then if they wanted a whole scrapbook i would charge a little extra to cover the cost of the book. Is this a good idea? Or do you think this sounds to much like a seventh grade money making idea. I know a lot of people who love my scrapbooking and want me to do pages for them, but would someone pay for this? even someone they don't know if they saw some example pages? more

Resolved Question: Website Ideas???

I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas of a sitebuilder that would work with what I need. I wanted to use Wordpress but I cannot do videos or integrate vBulletin. I like Blogspot but I cant do multiple pages. I have been working on my website for about forever. I found a 'builder' I like. It's www.blogger.com which is just a blog program. I like it because I can make it look how I want with HTML coding. I know SOME HTML but cannot write templates very well. I also have a vBulletin forum for the site as well. My husband owns our server and hosts my site. I also have Zen Cart but can change if need be. I use alot of digital scrapbooking to do my pages. My current site is www.eastbayyorkies.blogspot.com I do sites like that on there for other people as a side business. They dont mind using Blogger but they also dont mind having one page. I also have my domain, its just hosted with Blogger until I get it done. Any ideas????? more
