Diet For People With Pancreatitis Questions asked
Resolved Question: Honeymoon phase of diabetes?
I have been a type 2 diabetic for about 10 years following a serious bout of pancreatitis. At first my blood sugars were bad, some fasting values of over 400, but as it wore on I got a little better and just needed to control it with diet and exercise. Whenever I got pregnant I would have to go on insulin, after the births my levels would get better. Now I'm pregnant again, at the beginning of my pregnancy I went on insulin and oddly had to stop, 2 hours after a meal my levels would drop to 40. Now I act like I'm not a diabetic anymore, which is very strange for me now that I'm nearing the 7th month. By now I'm usually on a pretty large dose of 2 different insulins, but I don't need anything now. My endocrinologist said he thinks my pancreas is working overtime for some reason, we'll have more testing when I go back. He said most people recover from post pancreatitis diabetes within a few months, but I've hung onto this for 10 years. Has anyone experienced anything like this and what happened? My fasting levels now are usually 78-90 and 2 hours after a meal its about 90-100. If I am in the honeymoon phase, how long will this last since I'm older (31) doesn't it last longer? He does an A1C every visit. It's excellent most times. moreResolved Question: Anyone have experience with a cat with pancreatitis?
I tried to ask this question a few hours ago, but got nothing but stupid and irrelevant answers, so I'm trying again. Maybe the time of the day I asked was when all the intelligent people weren't on their computers. So, here goes one more try: My three-year old kitty, Cookie, has been very healthy all her life and I've always fed her high-quality food. She's never been sick even once. However, she very suddenly got really sick a few days ago and I took her to a 24-hour emergency pet hospital. They kept her for a few days and while she was there, they determined that she had pancreatitis. They treated her for it and she got much better, to my relief. When I picked her up yesterday, the doctor talked to me and told me that she'll have to be on a special prescription-only diet for the rest of her life. I've done some research on the internet, though, and some of what I've read has led me to believe that with an acute case of pancreatitis, a special diet is required only for a couple of weeks. I want to do what's best for her, but I'm just not sure if that prescription diet is really necessary for the rest of her life, and since it's pretty expensive, I don't want to spend the extra money unless I have to -- of course I will if it means that she really does need it. I just wonder if anyone here has had experience with this and can offer some insight. moreVoting Question: life story (not really) just some help needed?
right where do i start ive had a rollercoaster ride in health . . ive been having many problems with my health . 5 years ago i was rushed to hospital with pancreatitis over alcohol and have had a long battle with alcohol since but ive got to a stage where i dont drink that much prob once a month and a limited amount . ive also had problems sleeping i wake up around 7 times a night with what feels like a headache and my eyes stinging . im also very bloated and constipated all the time i used to get constipated for a couple of days after drinking and then get diarroea for a day after that then back to normal till the next night out but now its just constipation with awfull smelling gas . i have been told by my doctor that im depressed which i agreed to a certain extent but ive tried different drugs but ive never seen a huge difference im now on the drug lexapro 20 mg but sometimes i feel better from them but sometimes i feel worse . ive also been giving xanax just a few for any time i get anxios cos sometimes at night i feel so angry for no reason and dont want to talk to anyone when i feel like that and if my girlfriend starts asking me questions i feel like telling her to shut up cos my head just feels awful and i want to fix this cos when im in good form im very easy going and me and my girlfriend are great together but when i feel bad i could sit there for days and sit in silence . i do feel down a lot and i could be in good humour one min and then start feeling anxios the next . another reason why ive cut out drink as much as i can is cos when i drink i just get drunk way too easy for anyones liking. when i was 16 i was spiked with lsd and felt horrible after it but im 27 now could that have caused a problem . to add to all that the last fem months ive been having problems with my back and neck they are really sore and i think these might be leading to pains in the back of my head . i also cant concentrate cos its like mant thoughts are racing through my mind and songs start playing in my head or i could just daydream out of no where .on top of that i went back playing football this season to try get fit and i did but i trained as hard as anyone but my body just didnt feel up to it no matter how hard i trained . and it also didnt help that my legs are so thin and i cant seem to strengthen them up . i also get very lightheaded and sometimes when im walking down the street i feel like i just walked off the edge of the footpath down off the little step but im still walking on the flat it just feels like my foot went down lower than the path . if i stare at an object it looks like its moving rather than just sitting like an statue .i have appointments for my back with the hospital and with a physio any a phycologist but the waiting lists are long and also my girlfreind is 39 weeks pregnant so i want to change asap . i think a lot of people are starting to think im a hypo buts just so frustrating and im always looking for people on the same wave length as me who feel the same pain as me so they understand . .im starting to think this is the best its going to get and try to just accept it as part of my life . my body just feels so drained all the time i cant even clench my fist so ive started doing weights to see if that helps . my diet is ok but its not the healtiest but not the worst i do eat chips fish burgers pasta salad chocolate and a range of other stuff . . i used to drink prune juice for the constpation and it worked great but now when i could drink a full bottle of prune juice and it just leaves me with very bad wind . im also starting to try ibs tablets . . .any how ive rambled on for long enought i would really appreciate it if any one could read my problems and give me some advice on at least one of the issues .. thanks so muchthanks for your answer im sure ill do something along those lines but i would love some more pointers if anyone can contribute thanks moreResolved Question: Our dog is starting training classes, but need advice thanks?
Okay our other dog has graduated from basic obedience and has done wonderful. But here is the kicker our older dog (he will be 2 in August) has not been through classes. Our training is very big on training with treats and he has had pancreatitis and we have to be very careful on what he gets and how much (we keep him on a strict diet, as in strictly his dog food and certain treats, but treats are rare) How can we work that out with the trainer (will she let us train him on his dog food)? Second of all due to him being so ill for the first part of his life he hasn't had much socialization with other dogs outside the family since he was a little puppy and the last 2 times weren't that great (he was attacked by a larger dog and the other time he witnessed a dog get its throat ripped out by another dog, both events happened at a dog park) Since then because his immune system was so bad we have only had him around certain dogs and well quite frankly he doesn't play well with others....(well others larger than our other dog) He fears other dogs until he has had a chance to know them. I was wondering before starting basic training if we should enroll him in a Puppy socialization class....that way he gets used to being around dogs he doesn't know? He is doing great now, his immune system is a lot better than it was and he would make a great agility dog but we have to get him over these few issues....I mean he is great at commands but he needs some kind of socialization.....we can only give him so much (we don't know very many people with dogs. Do you think that is workable?this will be the same trainer that trained our other dog and we don't even mind that we will have to drive over an hour to take her classes because she is a very good trainer moreResolved Question: Dieticians - Internists - Is kwashiorkor a possible symptom of our poor diet - too much white flour / corn syr?
I think many Americans are starving themselves because of their daily reliance on white flour for sustenance, whether rich or poor. Protein-calorie malnutrition: Causes and incidence (Professional Guide to Diseases (Eighth Edition)) Both kwashiorkor (edematous PCM) and marasmus (nonedematous PCM) are common in underdeveloped countries and in areas in which dietary amino acid content is insufficient to satisfy growth requirements. Kwashiorkor typically occurs at about age 1, after infants are weaned from breast milk to a protein-deficient diet of starchy gruels or sugar water, but it can develop at any time during the formative years. Marasmus affects infants ages 6 to 18 months as a result of breast-feeding failure, or a debilitating condition such as chronic diarrhea. In industrialized countries, PCM may occur secondary to chronic metabolic disease that decreases protein and calorie intake or absorption, or trauma that increases protein and calorie requirements. In the United States, PCM is estimated to occur to some extent in 50% of elderly people in nursing homes. Those who aren’t allowed anything by mouth for an extended period are at high risk of developing PCM. Conditions that increase protein-calorie requirements include severe burns and injuries, systemic infections, and cancer (accounts for the largest group of hospitalized patients with PCM). Conditions that cause defective utilization of nutrients include malabsorption syndrome, short-bowel syndrome, and Crohn’s disease. Sorry this is long I had a lot to say...please I need some peace of mind Okay as many of you know our 1 year old poodle has been struggling from pancreatitis from the time he was real little. 6 or 7 months of age it started. Well he was officially diagnosed in September 2007. We still don't know what caused it (I mean we never fed him people food at all....vet theories are a combination between his bad genes and the crap food we were feeding) His old vet didn't even look for what was wrong it was his new vet that discovered the problem Well we put him on California Naturals and he got his weight back up and he was doing good for awhile he eats the lowfat But he had another attack of it a week ago and his weight dropped but we got him to the vet and on medicine (the vet said this time since it came back he will deal with this the rest of his life) She doesn't want to put him on meds becuase he is so young and we are going to manage it with diet. She said keep him on the low fat food. But my question is she said something about him not having as long of a life as most poodles..... She wouldn't go into that though. So what kind of lifespan are we looking at? 5 years, 10 years, 12 years? I mean I know its impossible to know. She said as long as we stay on top of this he can have a good full life and live a long time..... But not as long as other poodles. (Poodles typically live to be between 14 and 16 years old) She said just love him and enjoy him (and we will and we do) I'm just wondering. He means so much to so many people. But I just can't lose him he is too important to me. I can't go through this again so soon. So what do you think the outlook is.... I mean the vets outlook was positive but at the same time I am scared.I'm still not over the poodle I had to put down when I was 19......yes that was 4 years ago but still it was quite the ordeal. I'm just not ready to lose him too. He is just a baby moreResolved Question: Pancreatitis in dogs???
I just found out today my dog has pancreatitis. I took him in and they put him on fluids, and meds. They have to keep him for a few days and when he comes home he has to go on a low fat diet. He is a bit over weight, and he is a terrier mix. I was wanting to know if anyone else dog has ever had this and how did it do. I am really really worried about my little guy, he is more than just a pet he is a family member. They also said he was having kidney trouble, witch could leave to kidney failure. I think this is because he was dehydrated. The vet seems to think he will be alright, but I want to know what other people think. And please, NO A$$ HOLE ANSWERS! That would be like me making fun of someone in your family sick, or dying and that just would not be right at all now would it. So maybe someone can help me with this. moreResolved Question: I am hospitalized ,with Pancreatitis, this is very painful and 1 doctor assume Im here to get a high I guess?
There is this doctors that does not know me at all and I am crying with lots of pain-they have the proff in theyre hands that my pain is cause by another sudden attack to my pancreas. This illness is very debilitating and deadly.Mines is in my genes.I am getting worst by the minute and I guess this doctor I dont know ,and vise versa dosent want to take me seriouly because he hates hispanic people. The nurses are chock for the way I have being treated by this doctor and I called patient relashions and they also agree that what he is doing to me isnt right and he is under investigation. What else can I do?I ask for a nother doctor-and they told me that I fire the first team and we dont know if the second team will accept me .Weird,I never given a problem to none of them-I dont even have the strengh to stand up for my self.I am still not able to tolarate the diet and (he/she)is obligating me to drink liquids wether I like it or not.and this is not about that-its about my pancreas. So the I V medicine they changed by mouth aswell.I feel disrespected-there is no compacion in this 2 doctors that are teaming out with the others I have stand up for my self in the past for minor things and in a very polite and cortious way. They feel intimidated when they have a patient that knows a lot about there condition and have the courage to ask for the right labs and for more information etc. They like coming to your hospital room to say what they want to say and live they dont like when you ask them questions and remind them that you hav ethe right to express your feelings and concerns and for other labs and test when nesesary. They have deliberely damage my reputation here.I am a very quiet person and dont botter anybody. But I feel threat or intimidated to get out of my room and walk a little to regain strenght. They are neglecting me and suddendly they even rather discharge me when I am not even ready to go home. There is proove that my case is worsening and the pills they send me with the last time I was hospitalized were damaging my pancreas more and I showed them the papers and informatio where it talks about the precations etc.and they still ignore me.and walk away from me when I talk.It hurtsso much, maybe more than what my pancreatic attack.I feel sad and disapointed and discourage to the point I feel like I dont matter to them and no one cares. Please excuse my spelling -english is my second lenguage -spanish is my first,Thanks in advance..any sujestion will be aprecciated-thanks in advance again.I feel like everyday I die a little.I think they know what they are doing -they dont get along with me-and are making others to be not so nice to me -putting others against me,because I stand up for my self and reach out. They just dont want to make time for me -they dont like to be stop ed -and the always want to have the last word .I have being going with the flow all this time-but I realise I am hurting my self more for letting them intimidate me.I dont feel like I belong here, but I feel so sick .I have being crying in the bathroom alone. Is not fair. moreResolved Question: What should I do!!! puppy mill?
hey guys i am 16 years old and have reported this "puppy mill" to the appropriate people I want to do more though!!! What should I do!!! One person told me to go and take pictures secretly! www.jacksdogfarm.org this place is in rural PA...its called jacks dog farm:http://www.jacksdogfarm.org/OurPuppies.a... here are some reviews: by huckleberry 09/09/2008 I bought two dogs from jack's dog farm this past February. Their living conditions were pretty awful and even with all their fur, the barn they stay in was freezing and filty. I had heard horror stories about the place and decided that I wanted to rescue a dog from there instead of the SPCA. I was so taken back by the way these animals were being treated that I ended up taking home two beautiful blue heeler/eskimo mix puppies. Both puppies had it pretty rough at first, they were treated for bronchitis, kennel cough, and went months trying to fight off pancreatitis, the list goes on and on. They also have very weak stomachs and experience vomiting and diarrhea on a weekly basis even with no change in their diets. My motivation for writing this review is to try and contact anyone who has also adopted the other puppies from this litter. Although my puppies are now seeing better days, I wanted to find out any information on the health status of their siblings. If any other owners are experiencing these similar health issues with this particular litter from jack's, please send me a comment. They were born on November 19th, 2007 and are currently nine months old. Jack's obviuosly isn't the ideal place for most families to adopt a dog, but if your wanting to save a puppy from illness and neglect then I actually recommend it. There are tons of puppies there who could really use a loving home and family. I have to say we bought a purebreed collie from Jacks back in 1992 he lived to 12 years of age with no problems but when I went back there last summer to look for a new yellow lab I was VERY sadden at the way the pups were treated!! He picks them up by the scruff of their neck and tossed them to my 10 and 12 year old children like they were a bean bag. My 12 year old almost dropped the pup and they looked so scared to be held!! I felt bad for the pup really!! I asked which one's were females in the litter and his responce was "I don't know look for yourself!!" That shocked me even more!!. Not professional at all!! He charges $500 for a lab and they get this kinda treatment!! Does not say much for Jacks and if you are charging that much you better give me into on the parents like backround and photos!! Go on Puppyfinder.com the pups come from breeders that home raise them and most of the time the parents are on the property so you can see them. I got my AKC yellow lab for $250 on there. She is now 11 months old and doing well. You can even put in what state you live in and find whatever breed you want that way. I will not buy from Jacks ever again as I was not happy with the way he handles his dogs. Very uncaring and acts like this is a business only!!! by robynroolz2 09/10/2007 I went to look at puppies on 09/08/2007. It was a pretty hot day and a lot of the dogs were panting with many looking lethargic. I was completely horrified to see that more than half HAD NO WATER! Now i know its difficult to keep up with every puppy as soon as they knock over water, etc...but this was just too many to be the case. These animals are not being properly cared for. Lol I am contemplating on going to Jack's and causing a raucous. I have reported it the PSPCA, Philly PAWS/PACCA, MLAR(the people who helped on the Oprah show to bust puppy mills), and a local animal shelter. Any other people I can call? It would be great. Go under the link title "Our Puppies" and click on Large,Medium,or small Breed. I am only 15 years old so theres not much I can do. I might go and take some photos.guys i have sent email to Oprah's staff(since she did the whole segment on puppy mills), MLAR(people who helped Oprah bust puppy mills), PSPCA,PACCA/PHILLY PAWS, and my local animal shelter!!! We need many people to report...I am thinking of gong to Jack's today and taking pics but I dont know if it will work out because what if they catch me???!?! moreResolved Question: hey guys i was wondering if this place is a pup mill!!!?
