Yoga Magazine Questions asked

Open Question: I am a mother of a 12 year old girl, and I'm having doubts on her fashion?

She has just bought some grey leggings, teal yoga pants, gladiators and over sized sweatshirts. She has been interested in fashion since she was little, and she recently saw some of these things in magazines. Is this appropriate for her age? Would you allow your daughter to wear this? I kind of think it's cute, but I don't know if it is appropriate for her age group. State opinions please? more

Resolved Question: advice on "hydroxycut hardcore" fat burner?

hey everyone and thanks for taking time to read this. Anyway, I've been reading about this fat burner called "Hydroxycut Hardcore" and I was wondering if im old enough to start taking this (I'm 16 yrs). Right now I'm in pretty good shape because of high school football but I cant seem to be able to get my abs to be as perfectly tone as i want them to. My diet is very strict (low calorie, low sodium. high protien, vitamins, supplements, etc.) so that my workouts are fully benefitted (weight training, cardio, yoga, etc.). My main goal is to cut my body fat percentage down from 10.5% to 7% or so but for the past year I've havent had much luck and that's when I read about this hydroxycut stuff in a magazine, but I'm not sure if theres a certain age you have to be to start taking it, or even if this stuff is effective at all. So please, any help at all is appreciated and again thank you guys for reading this. more

Resolved Question: Is my one year old sons schedule unhealthy?

Okay, I am not sure if this is good or not. This is just how it has been for a few days. I wake up at 4:45 AM for Yoga & my shower, and he wakes up with me usually. That is when he has his breakfast. Around 6 AM he usually gets his bath and gets dressed. He has a few snacks here and there. Around 2:30 PM That's when he gets his lunch. Kind of late, I know, but he won't eat any earlier unless it's like little bits of fruit or the soft parts of cucumbers. Around 3:30 last night he slept, and he didn't wake up until around 7:30 PM to have dinner and play for maybe 15 minutes and then he went back to sleep. I went to bed around 9 PM. And now we're here... So I guess he slept a total of .. I can't think straight yet, is that 11 or 12 hours? It used to be that he woke up around every fifteen minutes all throughout the night but since he has been going to bed earlier, he's sleeping all throughout the night. I read to do that in a Zen Parentings magazine, I'm just not sure if the outcome is healthy or not.Oh! I'm sorry. He's about thirteen months. I was thinking more about it and I'm wondering if it just seems like he's sleeping more to me because we wake up before five instead of 9:30-10 AM, like we used to... I'm not sure. more

Resolved Question: Why do I cry or fight with my man after reading some O magazine articles?

My man asked me- no, he kept yelling a year ago or so that we would always fight after I got and devoured the whole O magazine. And I let the subscription run out... And had for a few months been digesting the magazine in smaller pieces. It's been about a year, and a lot less crying spells (and my PMDD got fixed- seriously, 21-day cycles are regular again and so are my moods)... But now, with happy pills and a regular cycle and my thyroid regulated these past three years... I was reading osme of my favorite articles that I clipped, and BAM! We were arguing over nothing again. These are articles about peace, about yoga and spirituality, about healing relationships that have gone wrong- about how to fight appropriately- So why did I go right into old power fighting mode like I was 14 again? And do I even keep the upbeat articles? Or do most O women readers even get crazed off of those What is going on, and should I toss everything or just read one at a tme, or what? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Good exercises to tone body, not make legs bigger.?

'm eating way healthier and a lot less for the last months, and since then have lost around 6 lbs. However i dont know a good excerise to tone your body without making your legs bigger and muscular. I use to run everyday for about a mile, but then when i stopped my legs got huge, so i rarely run execept for when i ' work out ' in my room with random excercise (most out of Seventeen magazine). So i really need reccomendations on good excerices/stretches/types of excercises (ex. pilates, yoga, #4 stretch, boxing, ect.). Thanks for your time, and again i want these stretches to tone my body and loose weight not gain it in tons of muscle. Thanks, please no bad comments! (: more

Resolved Question: Food for a Yoga Party?

Ive been playing with the idea of having a Yoga party lately. I do Hatha Vinyasa yoga and there are a lot of people in my family that have been interested in trying it. I found a cute invitation idea, sending fake Yoga mats with the information in them :D but I haven't found any good food recipes. You cant eat 2 hours before doing Yoga, so these people will be hungry. But I dont want it to be a very heavy meal, Id like it to be light and healthy. Im not a big salad person, and I thought Indian food would be a good idea, but Im not even sure if Id like that (I hate Yogurt and Ginger which is pretty much the staples of their food haha). I was reading in a magazine, making sun tea (green or chai) for a Yoga party and thought that sounded great, but those are drinks not food. I was just wondering if anyone knew of anything that would be good for a Yoga party? I know Anna Yoga is a type of Yoga that have a specific diet and that would be cool, but I dont know what their diet is lol Id like an appetizer, a main dish and a desert. more

Resolved Question: In which category can this horoscope be classified ? I request honest answer.?

I have consulted in person several famous astrologers appearing on TV and those for whom VIP's are regular clients, those who are editors of astrology magazines. They say that the native corresponding to birth details 15.07.1984, 5:20 pm, lat. and long. 9 degree 56 min N, 78 degree 07 min E(country-India) has many strong rajayogas like hamsa yoga, sasa yoga etc, ashtalakshmi yoga etc in his horoscope and that he will rise to the state of VIP very soon and towards the end of sani mahadasa he will rise to the peak. In my opinion, horoscopes can be classified into six categories. So, to which one would this native belong when sani mahadasa is over for him at the age of 58 ? They also say that though the native may be spiritual, he will not be a 100 % brahmin due to the aspect of exalted saturn on lagna and guru and so will not like some traditional practises . Is it true ? 1) Below average horoscope - Horoscopes of natives struggling for daily food, household servants etc. 2) Average horoscope - Lower middle class people like those owning small shops, drivers, electrician, mechanic etc 3) Good horoscope - Upper middle class people. People working as Managers, team leaders in IT companies etc. 4) Very Good horoscope - People who are in the status of VIP like actor simbu, dhanush, actress trisha, state government ministers, MLA etc. 5) Excellent horoscope - People who are very famous and one among the best persons in their respective career like actor vijay, ajith, director shankar, cricketer shewag, rahul dravid 6) Miraculous horoscope - People who attain great heights which only very rarely one person among one crore people born attain. That is people like sonia gandhi, karunanidhi, bill klinton, ambani, sachin tendulkar etc.If any of you feel that this question is not worthy of answering, please stay away. Resolved Question: Do you think I should take psychology and humanities next year?

I had two open spots in my schedule (I'm going to be a high school junior next year) and I chose humanities and psychology. Psychology was the one I was eager to take, but I only chose humanities because everyone else was, people were encouraging me, and it's a new class. Do you think psychology and humanities are too similar? Like, does it seem like I'm taking two different variations of the same class? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ THIS IS OPTIONAL YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ THIS Here were my other options I was considering: Chips (an award winning literary arts magazine filled with art, poems, and short stories - it would be my kind of thing since im very artsy and love stuff like that, but i just... didn't.) Journalism (apparently a horrible class, and i was dissuaded by a large amount of peers who are first-hand, primary sources) Peace Studies (even though it's taught by a local celebrity - who comes to school on this cool, old-fashioned bicycle haha - and you just make posters and go outside on the street and protest, it's for seniors only) Yoga (I took it sophomore year, though) Photography (Most sophomores take it, I missed my chance, so if i took it next year, I would be stuck with sophomores and freshmen) more

Voting Question: Could tight shoulders be making my whole body tight?

I have tight shoulders that I have I believe from bad posture. I am a very active person, but lately running long distance and really any physical activity I do makes all my muscles really tight after and on. The only way I've found to battle this is to be completely obsessive with massaging and stretching(Even though too much stretching ends me up with pulled muscles.) This tightness is very frustrating especially when I read Men's Health magazines that say this guy runs 5 miles a day or something. I ran 8 miles the other day and wasn't sore, but pained through it and the next day because my muscles were so tight. Could it be something I'm eating? Should I try yoga? Anything? more

Resolved Question: This is a story i am writing and i would like to know if it is okay or horrible and maybe a little help?

Go easy please i'm only 13. “Miss Amy you should start getting ready! Your photo shoot begins at 4:00” Debbie called. Debbie is Amy’s secretary and also her closest friend. “Well, what time is it now?” Amy called back. “It’s about 2:32. Then after the photo shoot you have a fashion show at 5:00 then at 8:00 it’s your meeting with the editor of high fashion magazine. When you get home you should go straight to sleep because you have your private yoga lesson in the morning” Amy sighed. “It’s the middle of summer break and I’m still stuck doing work 24/7” She said. “Can I skip out? This stuff gets so boring! And stop calling me miss it makes me sound old and we are friends remember” She screamed back before flopping on her bed. She rolled over facing the door because that is how she has to sleep because of her little snoopy brother, Tommy. He always appears out of… well you’ll see in a second. Amy stared at the door her eyes slowly drooping. “So sis, where exactly are we moving to this time?” Tommy said. Amy almost jumped through the roof. “How…when… why are you in here, I was watching the door the whole time” She stumbled. “Exactly why I came through your closet. See?” He said pressing a button on his remote. Amy looked in her walk in closet and saw the only empty wall slide up. “You ten year old genius freak” Amy said laughing. You see Amy’s fifth grade brother is really good at inventing things… and popping out of nowhere. “Anyway what about us moving” She asked as soon as she could catch a little breath again. “Debbie didn’t tell you! Well, she has told everyone else in the city. I guess were moving again.” He said. “Wha-” “Speak of the devil. See ya sis” He said and disappeared into his passageway. “Amy you haven’t even started getting ready! Anyway I forgot to tell you we are moving back to your hometown isn’t that exciting!” By this time Amy’s head was face down in her pillow. “Yeah, sure, whatever” She mumbled. “And your parents said you get your own choice of the high school you attend and it doesn’t have to be private!” Now this caught Amy’s attention. “Wait I get to pick my high school. What about all of my fans there?” Amy asked as she started getting ready. “Well you see back in your home town not many people know about Amy Lee so we are going there to pump you up! I mean you do want to be worldwide don’t you?” She asked. “Yeah, sure, whatever, I’ll finish getting ready and meet you out in the limo kay’?” Amy said inching over to her walk in closet. “Okay!” Debbie said skipping out of the room. That girl never runs out of energy Amy though. She turned around and opened her closet. She fell backwards on the ground. “You snooping little 10-year old what are you doing there!” She screamed. “You wanted me didn’t you?” he said calmly like this was natural or something. “I was getting ready!” she insisted. “Please Amy, you would never get ready this quickly if your life depended on it.” He said. “My little brother knows me well.” She pretended to wipe a tear from her eye. “Anyway I need to borrow your untraceable laptop if you don’t mind. Well, even if you do mind give it to me.” She said. “Gimmie a second” he said and when he came back he placed the laptop in her hand. “Don’t you dare break it and I already bookmarked all the high school pages for you” He said “Oh thanks! Wait! How did you know what I was looking for?” Amy said. “A guess” he said and disappeared into the hallway “Oh and you are going to be late!” he screamed laughing. It took a second to register to her. Amy ran into her closet and put on her clothes that she was suppose to wear. About ten minutes later she ran out the house and jumped in her limo with the laptop. “Took you long enough!” Debbie said starting to drive away. Amy provided a laugh for the joy of Debbie. She opened the laptop and went to the provided bookmarked pages from Tommy. Hmm this one is call Hard Rock High (HRH) she thought. It is an old High School with low popularity. Next! This one is Brants High School (BHS). Cool she thought. It has a high popularity and a great environment. And I can walk from my house there. She pulled up a map and traced the quickest way to the school. “It should only take fifteen minutes if you cut through town” Tommy said. Amy jumped. “Wha- I didn’t even see you get in the car!” She screamed. “You were way too busy to notice me hide in your extra clothes bag!” He replied. Amy picked up the phone next to her and called to the front of the limo. “Hi Debbie I think we have a stowa-” “way” She finished as Tommy hung up the phone panicking. “That was really uncalled for!” he said. “Fine then give me a great idea for when we move!” She said sarcastically. Of course since Tommy is completely oblivious to sarcasm he sat there thinking for a second then said “Well when we get there I guess you could change your identity while you at school to a regular girl you know like you’ve always wanted”. “Wow for a little twerp you are a little genius” she more

Resolved Question: Should he take the tax deferred savings out and make a financial move or leave it for another 23 years or so?

Here is a situation: "my friend" has 8900 dollars in a tax deferred savings acct for teachers called STRS, it earns a few hundred dollars per year interest (that is 4 or 5 percent i guess). It is a retirement account but he will not get any benefits whatsoever unless he works as a teacher for another 2 years in California. Teachers did not make Money magazine's list of top 50 jobs. Except college profs. So right now it is just a savings account. He would take a hit on taxes if he pulls it out (about 30 percent on the amt deposited, plus capital gains on the interest...I think) He also has about 13,000 in credit card debt from world travel and school - not high interest but higher than 4 or 5 percent. Oh, and student loans of about the same amount. He has an entrepreneurial mindset and knows that cash (even a small amount like this) can be good in times like this. So here are the options. 1. leave the money in the account to earn 4-5 percent for another 25 years or so. 2. Get a job as a teacher again and leave the money in the account for at least two years, he will then have a very small retirement benefit (he is 32 now)..benefit equal to twice what is deposited (total at 55 would be 30,000 roughly plus or minus interest depending on the economy) 3. Pull the money out and pay off a credit card. 4. Pull the money out put into a savings account until he can finalize a business/investment plan that will catapult him out of teaching (or bury him under debt) He has switched careers several times and has 1-3 yrs experience in several fields relating to science research and education. Also, he tends to get really into drastic lifestyle ideas - like "The 4 Hour Work Week". Financial advisers? Life coaches? Small Biz owners? Yoga Teachers? Help him out, please!!! more

Resolved Question: Parents: Has anyone ever tried Yoga with their toddler?

In my Parents magazine last month (or this month – can’t remember) they had an article about yoga with your toddler. I laughed at it thinking “Yeah right, not my kid”. Well last night my 2 yr old wanted to go see Gramma who was working out in her gym. When we got there, she was doing a yoga video. I tried to get my son to do it with me and Gramma and he was shy. I told him he could stay and watch her as long as he behaved. I didn’t hear from my mother or my 2 yr old so I figured either he was totally behaving (??) or he was getting Gramma to be a pushover. Well my mother came in the house about 20 mins later and said that my 2 yr old was doing yoga WITH her. He took off his shoes, his socks, he used her yoga mat! And he was watching the TV trying to do the motions/exercises with her. I found it hilarious but I also think it’s awesome!! I know there are “Mommy and Me” classes out there but I’ve never done yoga myself nor brought my toddler into it. Has anyone tried yoga with their toddlers? If so, how did it go?? more

Voting Question: Is my father gay.........?

This is a serious question, it's not a joke at all! All my friends think my dad is gay. And you always hear about those married men who are on the downlow. Well, he's not actually married to my mum, but they are a defacto couple. He is very fashionable, he used to be a male model...he literally has the best eye for fashion. He buys and chooses my clothes all the time. The other day he came home with a gorgeous green dress for me that he had chosen and bought. He does yoga classes. He and his good guy friend pretended to be gay together in their yoga class because they thought it would be funny....? And so now the whole yoga class thinks he's gay? I don't know you guys, it's all so confusing. He reads fashion magazines, he watches SYTYCD and project runway with me... Do you think that he could've possibly have been bisexual in his earlier years and just decided to settle with a woman rather than a man? What are your thoughts LGBT? Overall, even if he's not gay, it's still abnormal for a father to do this right? more

Resolved Question: at-home workout suggestions?

so, i was planning to go to the gym today, but there is absolutely NO WAY i can. first of all, my mom had to take our car up island to visit my grandpa who just had a stroke. this would be fine because i have no problem walking there, but now my niece has to spend the night with us because her sister is in the hospital. my dad is here, but our downtown area's pretty rough and i don't really want to walk through there alone (i live downtown so there's no way around it). i'm a bit of a chicken lol. anyway, long story short, i can't get to the gym. i was planning on running, cycling and rowing today, for one hour. are there any comparable exercises i could do at home? no, i can't go out for a jog, because i need to care for my niece right now. i'll also be doing yoga and ab work today but i need this other stuff too. i was going to run up and down the stares for 20 minutes, and maybe do some workouts from magazines. any other suggestions? thanks! more

Resolved Question: skipping a workout question?

so i'm a recovering anorexic, and since i started recovery i seem to have made up for my increased food intake by exercising more... i exercise for 2 hrs everyday. usually thursdays and sundays i lift weights for 1 hr, do yoga for 40 mins and do crunches for 20 mins. now, i haven't skipped my workout yet... but it's going to be very inconvenient for me to get to the gym and lift weights today... i went for a 20 min walk and did 40 mins of yoga, and will be doing my crunches and ab work for 20 mins still. also, if i skip my workout i'll be doing 17 magazine workouts, i'd try to do them for 40 mins so that i'd still reach my target two hours. would this cause me to gain weight or go backward in my fitness level somehow? like, will i lose muscle tone or anything? normally tomorrow would be my rest day but if i skip the weight lifting today, i'll go to the gym tomorrow for 1 hr-1 hr 1/2. more

Resolved Question: How to live organically, first step suggestions?

I have always tried to live a heathly lifestyle with diet and exercise. Now I would like to start living organic but I'm not sure were to start. My main priorities are things directly ingested/obsorbed by my body (food, personal care products, cleaners). What are some simple "starter" steps that people suggest. Also is there any good magazines out there. I'm not really interested in the body (yoga) aspect. I've seen many organic living magazines but they have a lot of exercise in them. I'm more interested in the household living. Thanks in advance. more
