Yoga Positions For Beginners Questions asked
Voting Question: Tripod Yoga headstand?
my class and i were trying out the tripod yoga headstand and it intrigued me. So i tried doing it on my own time and it looks like i'm doing it right. The again, after a lot of practices... my head starts hurting and it feels like a lot of pressure is getting put in it while i sit up straight. is there anything i should know or any techniques i should do before and after this position. Also, is there any safe way to land when i tumble over, cause that seems to happen a lot. hahaha, beginner here...what do you expect xD Anyways, yea... if you could give any do's and don'ts for this position...or if you think i shouldn't be even ATTEMPTING this position, please let me know before i seriously injure myself. LOL. thank you :D moreResolved Question: How long does it take to master yoga?
I have been doing yoga for 2 months, using a dvd for beginners. I can't afford classes right now, but I intend to do it, when I get all the positions perfectly. I really love it and can't wait to learn more. I always had elasticity and could stretch easily, even without exercising. So, after 2 months, I feel the difference and can do all positions a lot easier. So, my question is, how long would it take me to master it? And how long after that to get a teaching certificate? moreResolved Question: Please Read This And Answers It! Thank You! x?
Im starting yoga and I need a good cheap yoga book(With positions and routines) a yoga kit and a yoga video all for beginners and reasonably inexpensive.... WHat would you recommend? Thank You! :) x moreResolved Question: Yoga?????Please Help!???? x?
Im starting yoga and I need a good cheap yoga book(With positions and routines) a yoga kit and a yoga video all for beginners and reasonably inexpensive.... WHat would you recommend? Thank You! :) x moreResolved Question: Fifteen and thinking about starting ballet. (Multiple questions on the inside.)?
Sorry, I know there are thousands of these "I am fifteen and I want to start ballet." questions, but I haven't found any of them useful. I don't mind starting classes with much younger kids (3-4 age range) since I know I am starting late. (Lets get realistic, if you are a beginner you start with the beginners.) I am concerned with the equipment I would need. I have talked to my cousin about when she took ballet, but she started when she was six so she says she wouldn't really know if I would need the same equipment. I am not really sure what size I would need. I am a size 5 1/2 in jeans, and a medium to large in shirts. (Both of these are in juniors.) I am not really comfortable wearing tight clothes so if it is skin tight I go the next size up. (Which I know would probably not be possible with a leotard.) I am also concerned with flexibility. I already do some basic yoga. (Gotta love the Nintendo DS.) and although I am flexible, (I can almost do a full split.) I am wondering if that is enough of should I do more to increase flexibility. For my last question I am wondering about my balance. I am normally a klutz, which puts me in the odd position of being less than graceful. My mother thinks that I would learn a bit of grace from this and it would overall help me with my posture. (It is better than most thanks to band, but not that great.) Thank you SO much for helping me out. ~Kari PS. I have my own inspiration for doing this, not just "Everyone is doing it" or "I think it would make me popular." I saw the Nutcracker in the 3rd and 4th grade, I absolutely loved it and even though I knew it would take tons of hard work, I wanted to become a ballerina. I know I am starting REALLY late, and probably I won't make it really far in terms of performances, and professionalism, but I am willing to try. moreResolved Question: Thinking about learning yoga...?
I'm a violinist, and I'm thinking about starting to learn a bit of yoga to stretch and relax some of the muscles in my hands and arms. I also think it would be a great way to stretch and make some of my other muscles a bit more flexible. Yoga also seems like a good way to relieve some stress in general. I have a pretty busy schedule with school, homework, rehearsals after school, and activities at church, so I was thinking that I would find a book or DVD to learn from until a little more time frees up in my schedule. I've been looking at some books and DVDs on my public library's website, and I found two DVDs that sound like they would be good: "Back Care Yoga for Beginners"(since most actions stem from the back somehow, and good posture leads to better playing position), and "Ultimate De-Stress Yoga"(for stress). Has anyone ever used either of these DVDs? What has your experience been with them? I can get more information on them if need be. Does anyone else have any more suggestions for books and DVDs to check into? I have also been looking into buying a yoga mat. Is a yoga mat necessary in order to learn yoga? I would kind of like to find one that has a green floral print or music notes on it(music notes are preferable...). Any suggestions for stores or websites to check at? Any good suggestions for where to find a good yoga class, for when I have some more free time? I live in the Atlanta area. What are some good things to look for when picking a place/company to take a yoga class at? Thanks a bunch! :-) moreResolved Question: What would a beginner's yoga class entail?
I am attending my first yoga class this week. It is called "Yoga Basics" and intended for beginners. I am a little nervous, and want to what to expect. What positions will we do? Isn't there something special about breathing? How hard is it going to be? Any advice and knowledge you can drop on me would be really appreciated!!! moreResolved Question: Moms: Yoga recommendations?
I would like to start doing yoga as a type of body-mind fitness and relaxation. I'm not sure where to start or how to do yoga. So can any of you recommend yoga positions for beginners or perhaps there is a DVD you like? moreResolved Question: Yoga, a problem of courtesy, especially in need of female answers?
So, before any assume this is a joke, let me assure you it's not. It's a question stemming from real life experience, and one I'd like to 'anonymously' gather opinions on. I've been doing a beginner's yoga class for about three weeks now, and I'd noticed early on that there were potential pitfalls for any guy in that type of environment. However, yoga was highly recommended as a way to strengthen my back and start burning some fat. (I was injured in Iraq, and a nasty side effect of the 'treatment' was gaining roughly 80lbs and about ten percent body fat.) Well, a few weeks went fine, and then it happened, the unintentional, chemical erection. Luckily we were doing some seated maneuvers and I was able to regain composure without causing a ruckus, but it's put a fear in my mind. How would it be perceived for a man to be spotted with an erection in the middle of a Yoga class? Would the group be mostly mature about it, realizing that it's a hard thing to stop when some of those positions are being assumed by the finer sex? Or would it be perceived as an act of perversion? I've worked out in the gym most of my life and have seldom run into this situation, and when I did it was as easy as changing my workout schedule. Alas, this particular class is only offered the once. What's the verdict? Should I seek another, more male centered yoga class (That's an odd statement to make, considering in one light the one I'm in now is extremely male centered.)? Or should I continue to go, using self control as much as possible, and hoping nature doesn't over rule me in a more awkward pose? Let me again state, this is a serious question, I'd appreciate sincere, adult answers. And please do give me the benefit of the doubt, I am not going to yoga for any other reason than to get a good, joint friendly workout. moreResolved Question: Yoga Yoga Yoga Yoga ?
Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any basic yoga positions, that would be suitable for a beginner like myself. All the ones on the internet look terribly painful, and I was hoping someone could help me get started. Anything would be helpful. Thank you very much.Okay, thanks Sufi. moreResolved Question: Are Yoga and Pilates really for beginners?
I know alot of people say that Yoga and Pilates are great for people trying to loose weight. But if you are not already fit and skinny it seems almost impossible to do it at all let alone properly. I have been doing pilates off and on for a few years and now that I have gained a bit of weight I noticed that I just cannot get into the positions at all because there is... fat blocking the way. So what im asking is that how can pilates and yoga (since yoga has tighter positions than pilates) be good for everyone and especially beginners when you cant ever get into the right positions? moreResolved Question: A question about beginning yoga, dance and aerobics classes?
I'm going to take a yoga class at my gym tomorrow morning. I'm a beginner. In my belly dance and pole dance classes, I always have problems when it comes to putting my body in certain positions and stretching. I have problems doing push ups too. Why? I literally feel like I am about to die!! And I'm not fat, either. Now, I have had an unhealthy lifestyle for years. Old terrible habits don't fade so easily but I'm trying to slowly get myself on track. I don't know if that's the problem or could it be that I'm not used to this? Or it might be that I have no strength? What can I do about this so I can be more flexible with bending and stretching where it doesn't cause pain? I am carrying 30 extra pounds but I see "big women" and older people doing some of this stuff better than I can. What should I do? moreResolved Question: Is this normal for beginners taking Yoga, dance or aerobics classes? PLEASE ANSWER!?

I just can't stretch too much. Thanks Tabby!sweetroll- interesting and so true. When I used to work in an office, my coworker and I decided to use a free trial period after work in this luxurious gym to see if it was something we wanted to do. We were both in our 20s and we both had lifestyles that left a lot to be desired ( ex: she smoked no less than 2 packs of cigarettes a day). We were in there wheezing on the treadmills whereas gray haired people were outdoing us, lol. I guess they were healthier. Back then, I was an average weight and she was a thin Asian girl. It makes sense that they were in shape and we weren't, I shouldn't have made any judgements. moreVoting Question: Yoga positions for beginners?
A good website? Or really detailed descriptions of some really effective positions - to optimize relaxation and stretching and strengthening. thanks <3 moreResolved Question: Does anyone know a website that shows yoga positions and meditation techniques?
I get frequent migranes, and am stressed out a bit, yoga and meditation is supposed to be a way of stopping them, but i need a website that has relaxing calming positions for beginnersI want a website the does more of pictures than of having to read moreResolved Question: P90x Questions, Any help?
So I just got P90x and I'm on day four. I'm not sure what program I should be on though. I started the lean one cause I want to lose more weight than gain muscle. But I'm not sure if that's the right one to do. Plus does anyone have any tips for the yoga. It's putting me to sleep. I am a half hour into it and all we are doing is the same thing over and over and over and over again. Plus I am not very good with balance yet so I feel like I am not getting the work I need to see results. I'm slipping all over the place and I can't really see the tv in most the positions. So I find myself getting out of the position to see what we're doing and all and all I feel like it's half effective that way. Also I'm having difficultly with the ab ripper. I'm not sure if it's because I am sore from the other days or it's to hard. He hasn't really given any beginner tips with it so any help you can give would be great. Cause I want to "Bring It" but if I can't do it I'm at a loss. Please help! moreResolved Question: ACL Reinjury?
My Fiancee had an ACL allograft 7 months ago and was cleared for all activity 1.5 months ago. Last night my Fiancee and I were doing yoga. She started to move into the crow position (http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/yoga/poses/yoga-poses-beginner-intermediate-advanced/?page=4) and on her way to a squat, as she was moving her legs to the outside of her arms, she says her knee felt like it "popped." We iced it, and took some ibuprofen, but she says it is ok, can flex and extend it, walk no problem, but still doesn't know. Anyone know if she reinjured it or ways to check? moreResolved Question: Can you suggest a good yoga video?
What is a good yoga video for beginners that has a lot of the basic positions but is also enjoyable. I want to start taking it up and working on it every day to improve my health, calm me down, and help my heart. Anyone use one that they really like? moreResolved Question: Yoga??????
Can someone please suggest a good site that has all the yoga positions for beginners? Or just tell me some? moreVoting Question: How to make pilates less boring?
I would love to be able to do pilates on a daily basis (to help tone my tummy), but I find it to be EXTREMELY boring. I'm used to doing fast paced cardio workouts, so, when I slow it down, I tend to get bored easily (and, even if I'm concentrating on the position, I start to think of all the laundry & cleaning I need to get done) What tips & tricks do you suggest to help make it less boring? I cannot "clear my mind" like you need to do for yoga. Also, what pilates dvd's have you found to be the best for a beginner & also not be boring? moreResolved Question: Is this man trustworthy?
I wrote that I was looking for a Yoga partner to practice the lotus position of yoga with (sit double crossed legged) and I met a man who says that I can meet with his personal yoga trainer tonight to practice yoga. And I asked if it would cost a lot of money he says he pays $100 dollars a month for 30 hours worth of lessons. I asked why it was so cheap, and he says it's because they are new to the country and are really desparate for clients. I asked why he was looking for a beginner (obese as well) to practice yoga with and he said he was new to the country and he doesn't know anyone... Does his story sound believable? He's picking me up in front of mcdonalds today and he's going to drive me to see his yoga instructor who lives 15 minutes away. He also told me that the couple that trained him male and female husband and wife and that they both had a phd. in yoga... I'm thinking he's full of shit. moreResolved Question: question..........?
