Napa Wine Country Questions asked

Open Question: How much does it cost to get a pallet across country?

I need to get a half-pallet to a pallet of wine from Napa to Miami. I'm looking for ballpark figures. Any clue? There's no real rush, so if there's some sort of shipping / consolidation service that would be fine as we can wait. Any ideas? more

Resolved Question: Can you name a few good wedding/reception venues in Northern California?

I've checked Yelp but can't find anything I care for. Don't really want to do a winery thing cause I hate wine, and I won't be old enough to legally drink when I get married anyway. :P I'll be 20, husband to be will be 21 though, but he hates wine too. I grew up in Napa - wine country, yuck - so I don't mind getting married there as long as we don't have to do it at a winery.... lol does that make sense? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. :) more

Resolved Question: How can I get out of a Timeshare?

I paid $14K about 5 years ago and my husband and I both became disabled, we have never used our timeshare (1 week can use any time or year in Napa (wine country)) or exchange any place in the world with no restrictions. Resolved Question: Where to stay, Sonoma or Napa?

I am going to SF in Oct. and wanted to visit the Wine Country. I have been researching and can't make up my mind whether to stay in Sonoma or Napa? Please help! more

Resolved Question: Planning a visit soon- anyone with Wine Country tips?

I'm headed up North (I live near SF) to the Napa Valley for some wine tasting with some visiting friends. Problem is- I've never been! I've heard of a few places that you have to see when you're up there- that great Italian castle (Castello Di Amorosa) is a must, as is the V. Sattui winery that features the great gourmet deli and outdoor pcinic area. Besides those obvious stops, what are some other good bets as far as wineries? Other places of interest we may hit are the Coach outlet nearby (what woman doesn't love Coach?) and maybe dinner at the Uva Trattoria in downtown Napa. If anyone can suggest a few other stops, I'd really appreciate it! Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Can you walk between wineries in any areas of Napa or Sonoma Valley in Wine Country?

Planning to visit wine country in northern California this summer. We don't want to drive for obvious reasons and are hoping to avoid the planned shuttle tours. From the maps, it looks like there are several areas with 8-10 wineries within a mile or two of each other. They're mostly connected by state highways that I assume aren't exactly pedestrian friendly, but is it possible to get a ride to such an area then walk among the nearby wineries at our own pace? This seems like an obvious question but I haven't really seen anything about it online. (I've read about "wine trek" planned tours that visit a few wineries and have hikes in between, we're not looking for that.) more

Resolved Question: How do you like this poem with a future theme?

FUTURE POEM She looks -- wow She moans -- wow That time we drove to Wine Country, white blouse, mostly unbottoned red hair, blowing in the wind Truckers laughing as they passed us by They didn't know that my wife was killed in the famine of 2018 after the nuclear winter when one side or the next hit the button first and that I missed her and I had the scars to prove it having fought of mutants in the apocolypse they were human inside and animals on the outside and as I shot them I saw that brief bit of humanity flicker in their eyes That look my wife had as she withered away the army rations came three days too late for her And now the world was starting to heal itself and I'd heard about a winery reopening in Napa and I'd missed wine The truckers' horns snapping me out of that time, in 2012, at high-tech trade show when my wife punched me as I marveled at the 38-24-38 robot that had just been released with the white blouse and red hair and Hoover mouth.By EDDIE CACCIATORE, PI more

Resolved Question: Good things to do/areas to stay near SF w/ a baby?

My husband and 1 year old son are going to San Francisco for about 10 days in April. We will be spending the first few days in the city itself since my husband will be there for a conference but after that, we wanted to spend 3 or 4 days in wine country or something nice like that. I'm a big wine fan but also love the outdoors. We like going out on the town but figure we will get enough of that in SF since we have friends there who will take us out. I was thinking maybe Sonoma would be more laid back than Napa so was leaning that way. I'm looking for decent, not overly pricy hotels, good restaurants, and fun activities. We also want it to be baby friendly, or at least baby tolerant. My son is really good and has an agreeable personality so he should be ok. We take him out to restaurants all the time and he is very well behaved. Any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Notable points of interest between San Francisco and Las Vegas?

Hi, we (my new wife and I) will be travelling between San Francisco to Las Vegas in April and was hoping someone has tips on where the best places may be? We have thought about Napa wine country, Monterey, Yosemite and Death Valley. Is this a good idea or are we missing a hidden gem somewhere? Thanks everyone more

Resolved Question: Can anyone recommend where to stay whilst in California's Wine Country?

Resolved Question: Has anyone been to wine country out in California? Any details about the best places to go?

My husband and I are planning a trip to wine country (sonoma valley, napa valley) and would love to hear any suggestions about cool wineries to go, etc...we don't care about having to go to all the "must see" places. We care more about having a good time and drinking some good wine:) more

Resolved Question: I think I give up............................?

I got engaged in November. I have sent out 119 e-mails to wedding sites and have only found 4 in my price range and 3 of those were total dumps! The 4th fit my price range but right before I went to sign the contract with them they threw in 1100.00 more in fees. Our budget is 5500.00. I live in Northern Nevada but DO NOT want a wedding in Nevada. I looked all over wine country and the foothills too. I was hoping for a fall outdoor wedding and everyones fees are SO SO high! I just can't take anyone else laughing at me because of my low budget or telling me no. I want to marry him I love him but I can not take the stress of not being able to find a site. The areas I have looked in are Napa/Sonoma and surrounding areas, Placerville, Hope Valley, Placerville/El Dorado County, Monterey (which is a little too far away but I still tried). Did anyone else go through this? Our wedding guest list is 32 people and we are expeting 25 at most. I want a simple gown and am actually not expecting to spend more than 100.00 on it. more

Resolved Question: GRAMMER CORRECTIONS.. ?

The valley of the Moon the name of a section in Napa Country California is the heart of the state's wine producing area. Sam did not see how he could organize write and proofread this paper in only two hours. By the pilings of the old pier I found four starfish a clam and a sea anemone. Yes Helen did mention that all three of you were coming for lunch. I believe therefore that fraternities are good influences on a college campus. The problems involved in this operation are I think numerous. more

Resolved Question: Anyone know of a good place to stay in the CA wine country?

I'm looking for a good recommendation of a place that's not too expensive ($<250/night) in Sonoma. A hotel or a B&B would work. I'm slightly averse to the overly antiquey/lacey B&Bs though. Would consider Napa too. Appreciate any suggestions. more

Resolved Question: I'm supposed to bring gift from my hometown for host family on travel/volunteer program. Is wine appropriate?

I'm leaving soon for a travel/volunteer project in Costa Rica. I will be living with a host family for a month while I'm there. The program suggests that we bring a gift for the family there, something from our 'Native Area'. I live in the Wine Country in Northern California, between Napa and Sonoma. Is anyone familiar with customs (either at the airport, or within the culture)? Is this an appropriate gift? If not, any other suggestions? And in either case do you have any other recommendations for things to bring or do down there? Its my first time. :) Thanks!!! more

Resolved Question: Wondering about travel to CA wine country, any suggestions or caveats?

I've wanted to go there for quite some time, and I've heard Napa can't be beat for scenery and cuisine. This might seem like a silly question, but has anyone found it to be too pretentious? We're not poor, but we're not wealthy either. Will we stick out like sore thumbs if we go there in Target clothes and renting an economy car? If that's not a problem, then what are some of the good places to go?Drinking and driving, no problemo there. My husband actually never drinks alcohol at all. He's willing to go for all the outdoors stuff (he's really into photography) and the food, but the pleasure of enjoying the wine would be all mine. :) more

Resolved Question: Things are simple if you let them be . So why all the problems people .?

We produce enough food in this nation to feed everyone and still export some . That we want Items that are not in season in this country is the only reason we import food . We have the raw materials to build homes for everyone to live in and we have plenty of land . The problem with energy is simple, solar panels and pebble bed nuclear reactors . with plenty of energy we can actually waste a lot making hydrogen . Trying to make this country into the worlds middle managers who control all the production , financing ,and resources is not working out to good . We need to get back to work right here sharing among ourselves the bounty of this great nation . Stop importing French wine and Irish whiskey and drink boxed Napa valley and Jack Daniels . Every time people start to look down their noses at the rest of the world and others nothing but trouble comes of it . We have the ability if we all actually do some real work . Paper pushers and interest are the enemy . more

California wine country. Don't care about the wine, just the scenery, ESPECIALLY valleys, lushness of foliage, and fall colors is a bonus. If I go to Santa Barbara wine country, is it the same scenery as Napa/Sonoma or not as nice? What has more beautiful scenery, Napa or Sonoma? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Will you help me plan a super cheap, super awesome, 7 day Yosemite/Napa/Sonoma/San Fran vacation?

Yeah! I have never been to California but need to go so bad. I'll fly into Oakland about 1:30p on a Saturday. I'm young, fit, and don't mind camping a lot to cut down on expenses. I just need to know the best places to see and sleep in Yosemite and wine country. Best sights and campgrounds in Yosemite, best vineyards and cheapest accomodations in Napa and Sonoma, and anything worth doing in San Fran and Oakland. Can I avoid renting a car for this little circuit? I'm thinking two nights of "luxury" in hotels (but lets keep the rates "budget") out of seven would be about right. Where's the can't-miss food at here, too? more
