Wine Price Questions asked

Open Question: Best way to make a hookah?

Hi. I am a mosaic artist. I use broken glass, jewelry, and other found/recycled objects to cover things like furniture, vases, bottles, etc. I recently had a request for a hookah. I plan to make it out of a large wine or liquor bottle, over which I will place my mosaic. But as for the mechanism, I'm lost. I've tried to do some research online but haven't really found a good, clear answer. What is the best way to make a nice-looking, sell-able hookah? I'm pretty handy and ok with buying supplies at the hardware store, but I don't want it to look "junky" and homemade. However, I don't want to spend more than necessary, either. I need something to compliment my artwork and to be of good enough quality to justify the price, which is going to be fairly high considering a piece that size sells for $150 or more without being made into a hookah. Is there a kit I can buy? If I have to buy the pieces separately, either from a hookah supply store or from a hardware store, what do I need exactly? I know I'm asking for a lot. Thanks in advance. more

Open Question: Micro Economics - homework question on Trade. Please help ?

The question states: Suppose that Portugal and Switzerland both produce fish and wine. Portugal's opportunity cost of producing a bottle of wine is 5 pounds of fish, while Switzerland's opportunity cost of producing a bottle of wine is 8 pounds of fish. Suppose that portugal and Switzerland consider trading wine and fish with each other. Similarly, Switzerland can gain from trade as long as it receives at least 2.______ of wine for each pound it exports to Portugal. 1. 1 pound / 5 pounds / 8 pounds / (1/5) pounds / (1/8) pounds 2.1 bottles / 5 bottles / 8 bottles / (1/5) bottles / (1/8) bottles Based on your answer to the last question, which of the following terms of trade (that is, price of wine in terms of fish) would allow both Switzerland and Portugal to gain from trade? Open Question: What is a dupe for Estee Lauder's lipstick in Divine Wine?

A close family member of mine loves the lip color Divine Wine by Estee Lauder and they stopped making that color so I was wondering if wether or not there is a dupe for it somewhere. The price can't be too high and it doesn't have to be exact it just has to be darker and a plum color. (MAC lipsticks agitate her lips so anything like that won't work). She got the color sheer plum form MAC so it can be anything as far away as that color but nothing farther please! more

Open Question: July 2010 budget trip: Portugal, Spain, Ibiza, France, Germany cost / advice ?

Hi, Me and a few other friends (all 18, all male, American, from Los Angeles) plan on flying from the beginning of July to the very end of July to go to Europe for our "senior trip". Our itenerary looks like this: Start in Portugal: Porto, then Lisbon Lisbon to Madrid, Madrid to Valencia, Valencia to Barcelona, Barcelona rountrip to Ibiza, Ibiza to Barcelona to Nice Nice to Munich Munich to Berlin Berlin, flying to Porto to Los Angeles On average, I plan to spend around 2 days, give or take, in each city. Since we'll be taking the train the time should be a little flexible. However, I plan to spend around 4-5 days in Ibiza. For the cost, I was thinking 80 euros on average (except for Ibiza for 4-5 days- I'm thinking 1000 euros) per day for the trip. Is this reasonable? This includes a place to sleep (hostels only), food, clubbing, drinking, etc. Obviously not every day but more often than not. We are really big on a nightlife, but also on relaxing. Clubbing and music is a big part of our trip, along with socializing, laying back, some beaches, and taking in the experience. We will be staying in hostels, however we'd also like do some activities such as maybe a wine tour in Porto (I want to earn a palatte for wine) or spend money on little things that come our way (cuban cigars? memorabilia?). Also, if anyone could offer advice on some of the cities on our trip, that would be great. Maybe some of you have some alternatives or suggestions for the cities I've mentioned, but please nothing super out of the way than what I've already mentioned. I've done some extensive research but that will never compare to personal experiences. Also, where should I expect to pay more? pay less? What cities would I most likely be staying in longer? or shorter? Any general advice would additionally be helpful. I just want to make sure I offer a somewhat accurate price and plan to my friends and myself. Thanks! This would help me a lot. more

Resolved Question: Would a chocolate fountain be a good replacement for the sit down dessert at my wedding?

If I get the chocolate fountain, it will save me about $200 as apposed to having the sit down dessert of parfait, fresh berries, ice cream, or sorbet. Or, I could do 2 chocolate fountains (milk chocolate & white chocolate) for the same price. The chocolate fountain would come with my choice of strawberries, bananas, cookies, cream puffs, pound cake, marshino cherries, etc. Does this sound like a good idea? Also, would the chocolate fountain come before or after the cake? I was thinking during dancing? It's a 3 hour rental. Anyways, if I choose this, the food at my reception would consist of: 3 tray passed hors doeuvres (coconut shrimp, beef satay, and crab rangoons) salad of my choice new york steak OR salmon, with a starch and 2 vegetables wedding cake chocolate fountain Also, we are having hosted bar for the whole event; but we are only paying for premium & domestic beers, wine, soda, and fruit punch. Resolved Question: Do you think this can explain the housing bubble in a way you will understand?

Heidi is the proprietor of a bar in Detroit. She realizes that virtually all of her customers are unemployed alcoholics and, as such, can no longer afford to patronize her bar. To solve this problem, she comes up with a new marketing plan that allows her customers to drink now, but pay later. Heidi keeps track of the drinks consumed on a ledger (thereby granting the customers' loans). Word gets around about Heidi's "drink now, pay later" marketing strategy and, as a result, increasing numbers of customers flood into Heidi's bar. Soon she has the largest sales volume for any bar in Detroit. By providing her customers freedom from immediate payment demands, Heidi gets no resistance when, at regular intervals, she substantially increases her prices for wine and beer, the most consumed beverages. Consequently, Heidi's gross sales volume increases massively. A young and dynamic vice-president at the local bank recognizes that these customer debts constitute valuable future assets and increases Heidi's borrowing limit. He sees no reason for any undue concern, since he has the debts of the unemployed alcoholics as collateral. At the bank's corporate headquarters, expert traders figure a way to make huge commissions, and transform these customer loans into DRINKBONDS, ALKIBONDS and PUKEBONDS. These securities are then bundled and traded on international security markets. Naive investors don't really understand that the securities being sold to them as AAA secured bonds are really the debts of unemployed alcoholics. Nevertheless, the bond prices continuously climb, and the securities soon become the hottest-selling items for some of the nation's leading brokerage houses. One day, even though the bond prices are still climbing, a risk manager at the original local bank decides that the time has come to demand payment on the debts incurred by the drinkers at Heidi's bar. He so informs Heidi. Heidi then demands payment from her alcoholic patrons, but being unemployed alcoholics they cannot pay back their drinking debts. Since Heidi cannot fulfill her loan obligations she is forced into bankruptcy. The bar closes and the eleven employees lose their jobs. Overnight, DRINKBONDS, ALKIBONDS and PUKEBONDS drop in price by 90%. The collapsed bond asset value destroys the banks liquidity and prevents it from issuing new loans, thus freezing credit and economic activity in the community. The suppliers of Heidi's bar had granted her generous payment extensions and had invested their firms' pension funds in the various BOND securities. They find they are now faced with having to write off her bad debt and with losing over 90% of the presumed value of the bonds. Her wine supplier also claims bankruptcy, closing the doors on a family business that had endured for three generations, her beer supplier is taken over by a competitor, who immediately closes the local plant and lays off 150 workers. Fortunately though, the bank, the brokerage houses and their respective executives are saved and bailed out by a multi-billion dollar no-strings attached cash infusion from their cronies in Government. The funds required for this bailout are obtained by new taxes levied on employed, middle-class, non-drinkers who have never been in Heidi's bar. Any questions? more

Voting Question: How can you remove small stains from a satin wedding dress? without having to dry-clean it?

* I have decided to sell my wedding dress. Until yesterday I have not looked at my wedding dress since the day of my wedding 10 years ago. I pulled it out and noticed there are a few small brown stains on the dress which is made of satin. I'm not sure exactly what could have caused the stains (its definitely not red wine though). I was wondering if anyone has any experience in removing stains from a bridal gown with out having to send it to the dry cleaners. Im planning on selling the dress to a friend for a modest price, and I'm afraid if I send it to be dry cleaned, it will end up costing more than what I'm selling the dress for! Any advice would be greatly appreciated:) more

Then he became a mayor, but then the government changed and he was recalled for being a Republican. Then he did more business, and bought Froidfond, a big landed estate. My mother is very loving and caring, a real saint, but my father is a cheapskate! We never buy anything all food, bread included, we have from the farms and from our mill. Even of this food, we are allowed to eat very little. We eat only spoiled fruit, drink spoiled wine, eat soiled whatever. He buys me about two outfits a year. We never heat our rooms. I get at five every morning, and work all day, there is plenty of work in a landed estate. I never minded, but then my cousin Charles (the son of my father's rich brother) came to us. My father grudged him everything, for example, he counted how many spoons of sugar Charles put into his coffee, and never allowed him more than two! He grudged him even bread. I was really embarrassed. Then we found out that Charles's father lost all his money and killed himself as a result. Charles decided to go abroad to earn some money. I heard my father boasting about how many casks of wine he sold, and found out their price - my father must be really rich! I thought we were poor, the way we lived. Yet my father refused to help Charles, and we do live like paupers, saving on everything, denying ourselves even food! What should I do? more

Resolved Question: Which venue would you choose?

I think my fiance and I have narrowed our wedding venues down to two locations. I love each of them equally and both are pretty much the same price. If this were your wedding, which would you choose? Option 1. A banquet facility located in a country club 30 minutes to 1 hour away from ourselves and all of our guests. The ceremony will be held on a pretty patio attached to the banquet room. The patio has a retractable awning that can be pulled out for less than perfect weather (getting married at the end of May). The cocktail hour will be on a separate are of the patio and the reception will be in the banquet hall. The package will cost $55 per person (including tax & gratuity): 5 hours of Limited Open Bar. Champagne station adorned with fresh strawberries. Hor Dourves: Fruit & Veggie Platter International Cheese and Crackers Cheese Fondue and French Baguettes 6 Butler Passed Hor Dourves Champagne Toast The Carving Station (2 choices - chef attended): Roast Vermont turkey Roasted Top Sirloin Pasta Station (chef attended): Tortellini alfredo with grilled chicken. Tuscan grilled vegetable with penne in a rosa sauce. Main Buffet: Seafood Newburg Chicken Marsala Beef Bourguignon Potatoes au gratin, Garden fresh vegetables Wine service with dinner Wedding Cake Coffee and decaf coffee or tea will be served Option 2: An old chocolate factory that has since been turned into a restaurant and a banquet facility that is located 10 minutes from us and no more than a 20 minute drive for everyone else. The banquet facility is modeled after a speakeasy. It has an large octagon oak bar, exposed brick & a life size fire place. They have a courtyard at the venue that could potentially be used for a ceremony but theres a bar right in the middle of it. While some guests may find that awesome, I would prefer no-one be chugging a beer in my ceremony photos. The other option for the ceremony if we went with this location would be a botanical gardens type of place nearby (free to use they just ask for a donation). The only problem with the gardens is that its semi private and the date that we are planning to get married (memorial day weekend) is a pretty big tourist time in my area. I'm sure they would respect our space and all but then again... who knows! I may end up wishing I got married next to the Heineken sign (its not really that close). Anyways, this reception would cost us $58 per person (including tax & gratuity): 5 hour limited open bar Hor Dourves: Vegetable and dip display Cheese and cracker display Mini Chicken Cordon Blue Cheese Ravioli or Mini Quiche (havent decided on this last one yet) Caesar Salad Garlic Mashed Potatoes Vegetable Medley Assorted Dinner Rolls & Butter Chicken Marsala Stuffed Fillet of Sole Chicken and Broccoli Penne in a White Wine Garlic Sauce Carving Station: Roast Sirloin of Beef Cookies & Brownies (none of our guests are vegetarians, and yes.. I know that for a fact) If we went with option 2, I think I would like to try a 1920's/chocolate theme to kind of coincide with the factory and speakeasy feel. With option 1, it would probably just be your average wedding, which is totally fine too. The additions that we will have to pay are pretty much the same for both places. When it comes down to it, both weddings will cost almost the same amount, so price doesn't really have to be a factor. All things considered (distance, price, food, atmosphere, etc), which would you choose if you were me? Thanks for the help!Courtney: Out of curiosity, what aspects are questionable in option 2? more
